Fun fact: the first controller I didn’t show can never be used again because of this trick. I used to use it for my Xbox and then when I tried to connect it to my PC, found out the connect button no longer works. …and the wire port is broken. So I can’t even use it for my Xbox again, even though it works perfectly fine otherwise 😂
I've been playing this game since 2008 and despite me and my sisters basically scouring the Halo games when we play, we NEVER SAW THIS ROOM ONCE. I have something to tell them when I go visit my parents! Massive props for sticking it out, even going as far as to buy another controller!
@@TheShiltShow Definitely. Two younger sisters. A lot of our multiplayer time was just messing around, driving about and blowing things up, as they were terrible at the games for many years. Co-op was a blast though. Occasionally they would try it together without me and complain at each other. When Forge came about in Halo 3, EVERYTHING changed. It was so much fun. Good times.
WTF? i’ve played this game since the 2nd grade ( i’m 23 now ). i can’t tell you how many hours i have on this game, i never knew this area existed holy shit.
I'm about to be 28 fam and just experienced the exact same shit while watching this...If I knew about this when halo 3 dropped it would have eaten days of my childhood lmao
Im so thankful that we have content creators like you who still show curiosity, dedication, and appreciation to halo games and bring new discoveries decades later
I have a modding/game dev background and the only reason I could think that they may use this room is to test things like physics and collision, perhaps test out some enemies. If you notice the area you can jump on is just high enough for the chief to jump up so this appears to be some kind of testing area that was left in the game. Unless it is simply a cut story area or minor building.
@@stevenbenson9976 I imagine its more a room that was going to be used for an encounter but the encounter was cut. I don't see why you would build a testing room inside of a preexisting level. Why not create an entirely new scenario with a purpose built testing room? I could be wrong it just seems odd to have a fully decorated room for nothing. My reasoning is Halo 2 had some dev scenarios and done squad testing on coagulation, not newmombasa or spacestation. I could be wrong.
IIRC the *known* testing room for Halo 3 is that forerunner arena level (that I think is in the devkits somewhere?) because it's good for showing off the lighting engine.
Your videos are just the dreams I had of the out of bounds places me and my friends would try to reach in halo, like after seeeing this getting to the ship on halo 3 with the flying dumpster feels like baby shit
amazing video, still decades on we still find new stuff on these OG games, you need more subs and views for your vids they are great vids and the effort you put in is ridiculous
as a halo 3 veteran i didnt know this existed, and as a now game dev, i feel like this room was probably going to be accessible but wasnt since it probably made people confused where to go or get lost somehow
I remember Termacious Trickocity did this years ago (5? Safe estimate lolol) but I don't think they explored the details in the video iirc, so this was really cool! Maybe it was just a test sandbox for the AI or something and they ran out of time so they closed it off. Cool stuff!
Man I never knew about this room. It might be a room they were planning on using but then couldn’t find a place for it. Or maybe it was practice for building the environment.
This video only furthers my desire for someone to make a fully explorable Crows+Rats Nest map. Forge or GMod or whatever, I don't care, I just wanna pick and choose where I want to go and explore every inch of the connected map.
The placement of the gym makes that barracks area make a lot more sense now, strange how they didn't at least allow you to see inside of it very well maybe with like a crashed air vehicle in it or something
Small note: You can buy pressure sensitive gaming keyboards which have pressure checks on WASD, Space, Shift, and Control. My old keyboard had that. I never figured out how to sync it with games I was playing, but they do exist.
I'm guessing that you might have gone in there to fight a Brute Chieftain and rescue Marines. And judging by how the window is fragile, Brutes with Jump Packs would drop in from above while you were in there or they'd be coming in from that area, complete with a Phantom above. Because that looks like a good place to put in a boss arena.
I've had the same 4 controllers for every xbox (My og halo edition xbox, my launch xbox 360, my xbone and the slightly updated series x controller) and they all work perfectly zero stick drift and no problems. People don't take care of their stuff then blame it on everything else.
Same here. I'll wear the rubber off the sticks before getting any drift or sticky buttons. Have the ODST controller and had to retire it when the graphic started wearing off
i have a controller that still works well but then i stopped taking care of them and its the last survivor of the old ones [well other then a A thats pushed in] oh and my 360 controller that has 0 issues pink and white its also see through goes to show how taking care of something really makes a difference as all my new ones is dead
Well fuckin done man! Good job pressing on even with this thing wearing on ya. Side note: sections and rooms like this often get abandoned mid development when they were part of the mission to begin with. The biggest example in H3 is the map Guardian which was from a part of the campaign in which you would ride a high speed train fighting covenant, flood, and the first known "guardian" 🤘
I definitely feel old. I'm 33 and I played halo 1 2 and 3 religiously and eventually got so good at 2 and 3 I could've played in mlg if I had any decent teammates.
i recall there's a secret room on The Ark, I was only ever able to get into it via theatre mode by clipping my camera through a rock near the beginning and it would port my camera into an empty covenant ship room. Checking the files in the beginning bsp you can even see the room floating. I really doubt you could ever get into it as a spartan though.
my guess is looking at the door placement, at one point they were probably going to have it as an alternate path, then they went "eh fuck it" and just blocked it off with doors.
Halo Reach's Pillar of Autumn mission during the later half has so many different blocked off areas that are huge. It must be unused unfinished areas they wanted you go into, maybe check that out.
It would be cool if on new halo games, when they make little area like this, but which eventually get cut at some point in development, to always have some kind of cool easter egg in them, maybe a skull, an achievement, or a Cool weapon
Expanding on this, there could be a 'golden skull' or just the golden moa statues from Halo 3, where collecting it doesn't actually grant you a skull or achievement, but collecting every single one throughout the game does. Just ways to use unfinished and cut content are always cool, especially when it makes the players use bugs to even see it, and it would give more of a reward for players who go through the lengths to clip into every weird little room and out of bounds.
been watching your full videos. Got a few ODST ones I'd love to see you try.... Mind trying them since ODST and 3 have similar physics... Nothing with Prepare to drop. Mombasa Street By Kizingo and Oni Alpha Site.... Can you launch to Oni Building. Tayari Plaza, can you get back to where the rookie started? Uplift Reserve, can you climb up to the elevator... or the fall of it? Kizingo Boulevard, can you break the system and get the scorpion, wraith and banshees in to the final area? Oni Alpha Site, the elevator portion can you ride to the bottom... and can you launch yourself back to Kizingo Area? NMPD HQ, can you get down to Mombasa Streets? Kikowani, can you make it to the end without entering a banshee even once? Data Hive, can you get into the final audio log area without doing the other ones? Coastal Highway, Can you get to the epilouge area without a vehicle and still have virgil alive for the truck on Legendary? Maybe ride the trash compactor?
Maybe it was intended for the drones/flying bugs to come down through the glass and attack while you made your way through? They're only used like twice in the whole game, they probably wanted to make the most of them since they'd be difficult to have implemented.
They have plenty of spaces where you can't go but can see in some way to give you the sense that you're in a larger world than you really are (selling that immersion illusion). Bungie still do this today. Also you say no skulls in your description but you have infinite ammo.
