- Picking up on the points raised in the comments ref 'propshaft' alignment, rotating the turbo inlet. Venturing into the world that is spraying.... its horrific and gets worse. !
I admire your perseverance. I enjoyed watching the video, I am sure you will get past all these niggles and produce a result that will have us all in awe.
Nice paint booth! Word of caution about painted wheels the hardware will work loose unless you remove the paint from the holes when mounting.
Yep. I’ve heard that Brian. I will be cleaning up the chamfer contact areas when I come to fit the nuts. Thanks for stopping by ….. paint booths are over rated 😄
Good point.
You're on the right track with the painting, those wheels are ending up nice! One thing I used to do that you might find useful is to put the excess air line in a big tub of water - really helped to turn the vapour into water before it got to the filter. I only caught a glimpse of your fittings but wondered if you had a mix of PCL and Euro (hi flow) which would explain the lack of sealing? Forgive me if I'm explaining the obvious!
Two good points ! I shall take a close look at the fittings. The originals that came with the compressor are euro I’m sure but I think the hose are hi flow….😳.
Never heard of preheating paint for spraying, interesting, as you say, eliminates need for thinner.
Thanks for sharing Mat.
May I wish you a Happy Easter.
I have it on good authority ‘we thin primer and undercoat but we heat top coat’ - this was after I’d heated everything 😬
@@lookcreations Hi Mat, my paint spraying knowledge is near zero, I've used both blower type ( other end of vacuum cleaner), and small handheld electric airless sprayers probably once each, last time was my Puch Maxi moped frame at 16. Here's a good story, guessing I was 12 or 14 years old, my father brought a tin of Trimite Silver Hammer finish paint , he asked me to paint the wheels on his car (Vauxhall Viva I think, not much money about then, it was always a case of making do). Wire brushed the wheels, started to paint, but I couldn't get it go on smooth, tried stirring it more, just couldn't get it right, I was in tears, told my father when he got home, he laughed, consoled me, then explained what "Hammer Finish " was!.
Feel your pain on the bulkhead paints reaction.
Regards John
I’ve noticed it’s as much about CFM at the gun as it’s about PSI. I shifted the water/oil separator closer to the gun and created a U bend and as you’ve done, used 10mm pipe and high flow fittings.
There’s plenty of advice on UA-cam about suitable solutions but cfm is down to the compressor or tank/feed line at the gun. I’m on the lookout for a spare tank to boost available reservoir and hopefully reduce the condensate in the line
@@lookcreations I’m thinking of changing my regulator at the tank as it’s a 1/4 BSP and wonder if that is the limiting factor so no matter what comes after ie 10mm fittings/pipe, they’re being CFM starved by the regulator ability. Outcome = orange peel.
@@srw_cricket2976 thats true enough. I was thinking of having the 2nd tank on the end of a couple of meters of pipe, with a 1/2 BSP port onto the 10mm feed hose to the gun. The small 9cfm comp' can run all it likes maintaining the tank pressures to 100psi, all the way to the gun which is running c 28psi. There should be plenty of volume and the last fitting at the gun is a hiflow 1/4bsp as supplied.
Hold the gun a bit further away, about 6-8”. Wheels are difficult unless on a turntable!

Much to learn Phil, this clip is me trying to get the paint down ito the inner seam. I also had the paint cut right right back (less paint) so I didnt cause too much film sag / run. With hind sight, I should have painted the tricky areas first then gone back over the larger areas to block them in. Its all educational. Be sure to watch the following upload - its a disaster ! :-)
@@lookcreations LOLS to be fair Mat you have picked one of the most difficult items to paint on a car, as you found out. temperature of the room you are in is inportant too! As usual you soldiered on and ended up with a good job done!
Phil
Lookin' good !!
Too late now but .. Big traffic cones make grat supports for spraying.
You can spin the wheel around as you spray.
Hammerite paint 😃 👍🏴
Believe me, it crossed my mind 😎
No. Just No.
