    I’ve done a bit of world travel and seen all kinds of places people and natural wonders. I took a Rovos trip from Pretoria to Victoria Falls a few years ago and it was, without a doubt, the most incredible travel experience my wife and I have ever had. The country side and wild life are spectacular but what really stood out was the exemplary people, food and facilities Rovos has managed to put together. This company is truly well ran, it shows in the attention to detail from all their employees and translates into fabulous experience for everyone on board. We will rerun 😊

      I doubt you will ever return there. Not with this black communist government ruining the whole country! Re the food, I am a European, I found the menus a tad strange combinations.

    We took this train 20 years ago and we can confirm the outstanding quality of accommodation, food and sightseeing on the the two night trip. It was beyond "First Class". Pampered from the moment we arrived at the train station in Pretoria to the moment we arrived in Cape Town. After dinner having a coffee and sipping frangelico in the viewing car as we travelled through the star filled night in the Karoo was a memorable experience.

The marvellous suites (wing chairs) each carriage with its own service attendant. understated class is unbeatable. The 1920s dining car. Wonderful food. 'The train station has a small gift shop, the historic building also 'boats' an interesting railway museum?' Beautiful interior of the colonial style cars. Was surprised that it catered to only 72 passengers with 20 cars in tow. I remember in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) travelling in similar beautiful cabins in the 50's and 60's overnight to the hill country, so I could relate to it. It was great to view Mr. Rohan Vos's dream , attention to detail and luxury sets this adventure apart. It definitely is a labor of love and passion. One question is, how safe is the journey knowing the country's troubled past and living conditions?.

    Hi just found this July 2021. Had just watched another of the Rovos Rail trips to Dar Es Salam, and then saw yours. Having done this trip myself many times in the past although not in so much luxury, was a wonderful trip down memory lane, and almost had me very home sick. Was glad to realise that you too are an ex-pat, for whatever reasons. South Africa is a beautiful country, and always seems to beckoning one on reminding you of what you have left behind - scenery etc..

    I took this journey from Pretoria to Cape Town back in late 1975, but not with this level of luxury.
    The countryside was awe inspiring, and the service excellent. Crossing the Karoo was memorable, with the township children running alongside.
    Very special.
    And is the line from Cape Town to Knysna still open? That was very special also.

    • @etienneterblanche9717
      @etienneterblanche9717 2 роки тому +2

      Sorry, I see you asked if the Knysna line is still open, unfortunately not, it was badly damaged some years ago after landslides due to heavy storms and it was considered too expensive to repair since it was apparently not profitable anymore. However, I've heard a lot lately of the tourism authority in the area looking into making it operational again!
