Using your whole body to hit the ball is so critical as is the split step and being on the toes. You're right, those are two of the things amateurs don't do well. They're flat footed and they swing with just their arm. You nailed it, man!

Thanks Milan for all the fantastic tips! You are one of the best at helping to simplify the necessary elements required to help us tennis warriors out there to improve our tennis and make this game we love so much more enjoyable. Thanks again! Randy
Thanks Milan, great tips, I realized that I was swinging just with my arm on the backhand volley, not from the shoulder. It feels way different now, more control, thanks.
Milan, I have saved this video because it allows me to review the techniques and visualize them on my way to my practice sessions. This coaching PowerPoint with bullets is brilliant because 15 minute attention span’s, like I have, greatly improve my consistency. Your students, like me, will benefit. Thank you very much, Scott
Loved all your previous instruction videos - there's always something for me to take away and have a go at, great content, thanks. Will try the eyeline volleys, leaning with the shoulders in the slice and keeping the racquet arm low as you start the serve.
Great tip about the forehand with full body turn and use of non racquet arm Milan. I started using the non racquet arm to uncoil after watching Nikola Aracic explain this in Intuitive Tennis. At first I was confused because most people say rotate the hip first and then the arms follow but I watched lots of Slo mo videos of pros and saw that the very first thing that the pros move is the non racquet arm then the whole torso and hips follow. When I do that I find relaxation, consistency and power like never before whereas jerking the hip first to force the arms to follow was not smooth or easy to time. The arm not only helps with taking the racquet back and spacing but helps with smooth rotation and good timing. It does seem that in this and some other things, there is inconsistency in tennis instruction for some reason...
This is an absolutely amazing video, and so are your others. Concise and beautifully demonstrated. You are obviously a very skilled player with the bonus of being able to teach. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the wondeful tips. I feel like I have a reliable slice but i want to knife it even more. Can’t wait to try out the tip. Also I was having some trouble creating racket speed on my serve. Never thought about arms having to move at such different speeds. Wish I had you as a coach when I was younger :(
Outside weather is getting dark early and cold here. I really appreciate your pro tips! Tomorrow, I will practise, when serving, to drop my racquet hand down, low. Get the big seperation between the the two hands.
Thanks for the great videos! They are really helpful to someone like me who knows the basics and who can play at a high level but are looking for those extra adjustments to refine the techniques. What do you think are some subtle or lesser known tips that elite players do but aren't typically taught in lessons.
Thank you Milan. Love how you show the finer points and nuances of timing of the body movements. Super helpful and extremely clear video. Now to practice! ☺️🎾
@@tenfitmentennisimpulse I did this morning :) I focused on backhand volley (my left arm used to stay near my body) and on the backhand slice. I did well. Arm driving is a problem that just about every club on the planet is infected with because some Amateur level Rec Players bring bad habits with them from their armchairs off the Tv into the clubs trying to emulate the pro drives and try to spin all the g-forces on the ball all off their wrists and arms and then these players who keep on hitting the ball this way later develop weak wrists sore arms, tennis elbow or a host of other issues but when the pain starts, instead of going off to a coach to get the swing mechanics checked out but usually these tv wanna be players don't usually get their swings checked out and just continue on hitting the ball incorrectly for years and say, Ouch, my arm hurts today, or ouch my wrist feels all sore, or ouch my hip is playing up again and go off down to the doctors again instead to pop more painkillers and repeat the same process the next week, or pop painkillers on the tennis court in some cases and continue to hit the ball incorrectly suffer more pain, pop more painkillers. suffer more pain, pop more painkillers, suffer more pain, get a big tranquilizer and soon it becomes a vicious circle and we say to these players, look stop the insantity and just go and see a teaching pro to get the swing mechanics checked to make sure you're doing things right with the ball. For if you are hitting the ball all off just your wrist and arm, you're hitting the ball off the wrong part of the body... The largest bones of the body are supposed to be taking the load of the ball not your wrist or your arms. That is why when he national coach would see his kids hitting off the wrist he would tell them off and tell them to drive the ball properly with the full kinetic chain, not just one part of it.
(in my opinion) Injury is often caused by the jarring impact of the racquet hitting the ball going back up the arm which causes micro tears in the tendon which leads to inflammation/swelling/pain and weakness as the tears heal weaker so just re-tear when you next hit again, particularly as you pass 40 and your tendons loose stretchiness. To prevent injury you need to make sure your wrist/elbow are relaxed and not at the limits of their motion as the ball is hit. Yes you need the correct motion, but driving through the body doesn't necessarily fix that - the purpose of that is to make the racquet move faster. Look at the "Federer" forehand - arm completely straight, wrist bent right back not long before impact - if you hit the ball just then it will do you no good at all.
@@NamesAreRandom Yes but its not just only the impact of the ball from the opponent, and these are also the other factors that can contribute to strains and injuries.. Playing in Heavy Strong Gusty winds. All it takes is a sudden gust of very heavy blast of wind during the swing to jerk the racquet suddenly around or flip the racquet open at the wrong time to cause an injury or strain during the swing. The tennis court also moves several metres all out of alignment when its windy... Playing with worn down GRIPS that have not been replaced. Playing in WET DAMP Conditions. Playing on a water filled or damp wet tennis court. Failling to warm up properly before getting on the court and just getting on the court and start hitting balls around with no stretches, or exercises and warm ups,. Alot of Amateur club players just unpack their bags when they get to the courts and just hop on and start hitting balls and don't do any stretches, and warm ups before swinging at balls. Then they hit a ton of errors and play bad tennis and wonder why they're having a hard time trying to hit the ball. Because you can't start an engine all cold. It has to have time to warm up first before you can even fire it up. PLAYING ON ARTICIAL GRASS WITH LOOSE SAND can also cause strain if the foot suddenly slips out from under you during the footwork or when doing a drive. It slips because the milliions of little round sand grandules are getting under the foot and then start all moving under the foot as you are trying to load up on the ball. Really annoying playing on that surface. Some amateur club players still do this and this bad habit shouldn't even exist in the clubs, but it does, we had this problem with some of the kids in our clubs, and that's Serving in the Ball and just dumping the second ball all down on the court behind them and running in and playing the point out while a ball is still rolling all loose around them on the court behind them. = Foot Injury or broken ankle if they step on that loose ball. PLAYING WITH THE WRONG SHOES can cause the shoe to buckle and catch the edge of the court and cause the ankle to roll. Or playing with shoes that are not TIGHT and are all loose allowing the foot to wiggle all around . Thankfully I never rolled the ankle when I played on the court because I wore 2 pairs of socks to make sure there was no ankle movement when moving on the court. and always played in proper tennis shoes. Playing in super short socks that only cover just only the foot and not cover up the ankle could leave the foot vunerable to shoe buckling and rolling. * Late Timing with the Ball. Hitting the ball late causes you to hit with the arm when you get all jammed up with the ball when you can't step into it to use the body... * SWINGING HARD and missing the Ball. The other thing that can cause injury is setting up for an overhead or groundstroke and swinging but missing the ball and stretching the wrist when you miss the ball by just a few inches (usually happens when there's wind around that jerks the ball out of position at the very last second you go to pronate and you miss the ball by an inch or two). Not a nice feeling when you overstretch the tendons in the arm because of missing the ball during the pronation..This is why when you smash overheads you smash them at three quarter speed you don't pronate on it all going for broke with everything you got in case you miss the ball and overstretch the tendons during the pronation.. So you have to be more careful when playing in wind.
@@NamesAreRandom Other things can cause strains and injuries as well I will list them. Strong Galeforce Wind, Pronating too hard and misjudging the ball and missing the overhead by just a few inches it can strain the elbow or wrist when you miss hitting the ball on contact. Playing with the wrong type of shoes on the court (roll or twist the ankle when the shoe edge catches the court and buckles the foot.). Playing with super short socks in the shoe that give no support at all for the ankle. Playing with balls in wet conditions dripping with water. Leaving a loose ball rolling around on the court after hitting a serve and the player steps on the ball while play is in progress and injuries their foot. Poor timing, Hitting the ball late, (hitting off the wrist and arm. ) Failing to warm up properly with stretches and exercises before hitting balls on the court.
