Went there for tank gunnery several times between 1965-68. Most of my time there was spent on the ranges, living in a GP medium tent. Back in those days the tank trails weren't paved, all the tress next to them were white from the dust. My first home station was in Munich, a lot better than Graf.
First time there was summer of 1978 for 30 days. Worked Direct Support Maintenance 699th Mt. 85th Mt, Battalion out of Hanau. Loved it there. Germany is a beautiful Country. Hope you enjoy your time in country and wish you well Mr. Garrett.
You guys have it good. I was stationed there in 1985 while we rebuilt the tank range and it was nothing like it is now. DCO 293rd Engineer Battalion 18th Engineer Brigade. We stayed in baccracks not attached to the Latrine so we had to trek about two hundred feet to shower. It was nothing to see wild bore Hogs.
Definitely miss Graf!! Tank range #132. Gunnery. JMRC live fire.. The gut truck and the donut truck. Lol. The Germans stealing our mres. There are trails behind range 132 that lead to a bunch of old m110 self propelled artillery vehicles and other decommissioned tracks. Such an awesome experience. Glad to see Graf is still jumping.
The field artillery battalion I was stationed in used to go to Graf at least twice a year when I was stationed in Germany from late 73 to late 77. Graf was awesome IMO.
Damn man I miss that place alot. Was a soldier stationed out there from 2012-2014. Currently a government contractor and still trying to find a gig out there.
Was stationed in Graf back in 2015 and left in 2018 moved to k'town. Great place. So many memories. Cheers bar highly recommended. Hope it's stil there.
Stationed in Graf 82 - 85 . 535 th. Eng.Co. ( CSE).. Heard there was a lot of changes. My first Graf was in 79 as a Red Leg. 2/92 F A Giessen Rivers Barracks
I’m coming to Grafenwor this July. I will be with the 51st CTC. How is the barracks? Do NCO’s share a room or they have it to themselves? I need to know so I know what stuff to bring with me.
You addressed purchasing a car but do you even need a vehicle, with all the public transit options? Is it easy to get to the train station without a personal vehicle?
You technically do not need a car no. You can survive easily off of public transportation. But to get to a train station you will need to take a taxi to get there. Other than that, buses are available. But having your own car is great for convenience!
I’m going to graduate here from AIT here in Fort Gordon, Georgia and then go to Airborne and debating on going to East Camp, Germany or RASP and become a Ranger. I’ve been doing Ranger PT and basically lead the runs like I’m physically fit. And I want to go to Germany in my heart but scared I might loose shape or become complacent when I go to Germany. So what would you advice, do y’all work out a lot or anyone leave to Rangers after Germany? Or what’s your whole opinion on this and what do people do up on base with a problem like this?
Late response on this as I do not have notifications up for comments. But if you have the opportunity to go ranger, and you have the itch to do it, the best time to do it is now. Germany is great but it will always be there. If I have an itch to go to a school I won't hesitate as my plans and mindset might change by next month. Better to act now then wait and regret.
@@joseloredo6416 it is the same process as getting a car in the states. Germany has a similar department of motor vehicles where you have your vehicle registered. If you get a car through a dealership they make it even easier for you to get a car
As an 11B there are not many areas you can go, from what it sounds like Pvt you aren't even outta jump school. So for your punch drinking ass is gonna land you either in Italy and if you fail jump you are gonna go to 2CR and hate life.
I keep on hearing great things about Grafenwohr!
It’s a great place!
My dad was stationed there 2014-2016. One of the BEST FORTS I’ve been to
Been there, done that from 1984 to 1990. Got a European out and I am still living close to Grafenwoehr.

The barracks at graf are pretty great in my opinion! Nco’s normally get their own room

How much luggage did you bring with you
Is it a hassle bringing extra things like a laptop,Xbox and Pc monitor when u leave for the airport
Depends on if you decide to bring all of that through luggage and hopefully non of it breaks in transit.
Can you tell me more about the first car option please?
What exactly do you want to know? How to get a car?
@@nikemg23 yes

I actually just left a month ago! But I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
The living conditions nice? Whats better between Italy or Germany being stationed?
Haven’t been to Italy but relatively the same for both Germany and Italy but out of both I think Germany is better
