This is an old Kazakh folk song. It tells the story of a young soldier conscripted into the army during the First World War. It captures his sadness of missing his beloved homeland whilst worrying about his elderly parents he left behind. There is a version on utube with captions. It’s well worth watching it. Dimash is extraordinary ❤️

Actually the lyrics are describing a journey of young man going to war, not knowing if he will ever see his parents and native land again. Very sad mystical and yet magical melody. Love this song.

The Kobyz (co-biz) or kylkobyz (keel-co-biz) is an ancient Turkic bowed string instrument, spread among Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Bashkirs, and Tatars. The Kyrgyz variant is called the kyl-kyyak. The qobyz has two strings made of horsehair. The resonating cavity is usually covered with goat leather.
There is a version of this video that has subtitles and you might want to visit that because there really is a story being told here. It is a traditional Kazakh song based on true events.

This version of Samaltau is beautiful and enchanting not only for the incredible instrumentation but also the atmosphere created. Dimash voice is so powerful and gorgeous! This song is about a young soldier that was obliged to go to war leaving behind his family and all what was loved by him. the story is a soldier's reflection while he is marching through the mountains to his sad destiny. Samaltau was performed from Dimash home studio during the quarantine. 🎤❤️🔝🌹👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🌧

👉This bowl-neck lute played with a bow is is an old Turkic stringed instrument and called Kobys or Kylkobyz in Kazakhstan. The Kyrgyz variant, for example, is called the kyl-kyyak.
The Kobys is the oldest string instrument in the world and, according to a German scientist, it spread beyond the borders of the nomadic area of Central Asia and became the prototype of all European string instruments.
(Turkic means: The Turkic peoples are a collection of ethnic groups from Central, East, North and West Asia as well as parts of Europe and North Africa who speak Turkic languages.)
A legend about Kobyz says that this instrument was created by the great steppe narrator Korkyt-Ata, who lived in the 10th century and that the tool is charged with magical and even mystical properties and sounds like animal voices. In addition, the Kazakh people believed that the spirits of their ancestors spoke to them through this music.
The old outlook and piety towards their instruments and music was constantly preserved in traditional Kazakh society and ensured the highest spiritual level of musical art and a special respectful attitude towards musical instruments. Simple people, for example, did not dare to touch the shaman's Kobyz. It is said: The balance between the courses of life and death on earth can be maintained by playing the Kobyz.

The beginning of the song and throughout seems to me to be mimicking nature..with the wind and water and howling wolves and wild life, as the character journeys to war, not knowing if he will ever see his family and country again and what awaits at journeys end? A powerful haunting piece of music. Nice reaction. Even more poignant with what's happening with world event's at the moment. love from UK. 8)

One of my favorite Dimash's songs, this is absully a very ead song, it speaks about a young man who was drafted by the Zar's army to go to war, and he misses home so much that he wonders if he's going to be able to come back home, during the whole song dimash can transport you into this young soul's jurney and if you are cappable of felling the music it'll take you through all possible fellings, the song itself is beautiful, but Dimash takes you deeper into a whole new state of mind.... and lets speak about the mastership of the musisians playing wuth him.... 💚💚💚💚

Песня начинается с звуками природы Казахских гор. Инструмент кобыз издоет голоса волков ветра. Так перекликаются умные преданные своей паре как лебеди. ДИМАШ рассказывает историю времён репрессии. О тяжёлых времён.

He is manifesting our Creator God Spirit which has been lost for most for so long. Heaven is absolutely full of music , and Dimash, in following his destiny, is helping us to receive and understand it. He is correcting the use of beautiful frequencies that heal, refresh, and influence creativity and love and peace.

And now I am going to turn you and your readership on to the most underrated male pop vocalist of all time. His name was “ John Gary” and he had a 4 octave vocal range and the most celestial angelic voice and vibrato. He passed away in the 1990s at the age of 66 but left behind over 150 songs-all the great ones. He was Elvis Presley and Johnny Carson’s favorite vocalist! I hope you will react privately to 5 songs that I will list below ( I say “privately”because no one will recommend him).
    Please UA-cam the following:
    “Once Upon A Time”
( the best rendition of this song ever recorded. All the well known professional vocalists like Tony Bennett, Andy Williams have sung it but none come close to Gary’s angelic rendition)
“If You Love Me Really Love Me”
( an amazing love song from his “ So Tenderly” album. He sustains the last PHRASE for 13 words ( not notes but words!) for 30 SECONDS!!
No doubt one of the longest “One Breath Phrases” with vibrato ever recorded on a pop Lp or Cd.
After this, my next choice is “ once upon a time” a bittersweet love ballad where John mezmerize’s you with his 4 octave range
    “Autumn Leaves”
( a popular song sung by many vocalists, but John Gary uses his 4 octaves to SOAR into the angelic realm.
    “ Something Simple”
( an obscure one from his “ So Tenderly” Lp that will open the floodgate of your heart and soul. Again, he SOARS!
And finally, “ The Sound Of Music”
( everyone remembers the movie and Julie Andrews wonderful rendition but few knew that John Gary recorded it FIRST from his “ The Nearness Of You” Lp and his voice merges with the violin at the end of the song.
And speaking of the violin, here are a couple of reasons why John Gary’s voice was so electrifying and angelic.
His mother was a Professional Concert Violinist and when John was 6 or 7 years old, she would play the violin and have her son vocalize to the sound of the violin. Another reason was because John was a professional DEEP SEA DIVER and invented an AQUALUNG and set a WORLD RECORD for remaining under water over TWO HOURS!
Well, that’s it. I hope I enticed you to listen to these 5 John Gary recordings. And the manny more from over 150 popular songs and he performs them like no other male pop artist.
All love from Miami Beach , Florida,
    -Al

the instrumental introduction depicts the howling and barking of wolves in the Kazakh steppe, the wind, a snow-covered whirlwind...this is a song about dramatic events in the history of the Kazakhs, when the Russian tsar forcibly took them to the 1st World War

  • @zemanoshtronz

When Kazakhstan belonged to Russia, young Kazakhs were forced, by the Russian Empire, to leave their homes and fight 35 years until their total massacre. The story of one of these young people, who desperately marches into a war that is not his, besides the sadness of leaving his parents, elders, with no one to take care of and the certainty that he will never see the mountains (“tau”) of Kazakhstan again generated this wonderfully sad song! In addition to Dimash's talent, we have a wonderful ambience and two fantastic musicians: Olzhas - Master in playing Qobyz (Kobyz, who looks like a violin), the other who plays “Pau de Chuva”! A supernatural journey to the plains of Kazakhstan, through Music!

Dimash was invited to participate in the Tokyo Jazz Festival this year on his 26th Birthday on 24th May 2020 and was very disappointed when it was canceled. However, it was reinstated as an online festival, and he took part from his music room/studio in his house in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The back story is important in interpreting this experience. This song is based on the writings of a young Kazakh who lived with his parents and family in the mountainous area of Kazakhstan when he was forced into the Tsar's army to fight in WWI. He had never been out of his own little part of Kazakhstan. The sounds of those ancient instruments represented the sounds of nature that he loved so much -- the wind, the howling wolves, etc. He's being forced to go fight in a war he does not understand for a Tsar to which he feels no allegiance. He misses his homeland and family as he marches to war, and he's wondering if he will survive the battles and be able to return to the homeland he loves so much. If you are interested in learning more about what the song is about here is additional information: www.iias.asia/the-newsletter/article/time-ordeal-story-1916-revolt-central-asia
As you already know, Dimash is from Kazakhstan, but more specifically, he is a native Kazakh. Kazakhs are separate indigenous people from regular Kazakhstanis. They are the original Nomad tribes from the steppes; some still live as nomadic people. Dimash is a direct descendant and lives traditionally with his extended family and they keep all the cultural traditions. It is custom that the firstborn son of a family is given to a set of grandparents to raise for at least 10 years. Dimash was entrusted to his paternal grandparents, and they raised him to be highly confident in himself. They raised him to believe that God had a great plan for him, and he should pursue it and dedicate himself to that plan with his entire being.
The kobyz, played here by Olzhas Qurmanbeck, is a 5,000-year-old, traditional, and sacred instrument in Kazakhstan. The kobyz or Kyl kobyz is the most ancient bowed instrument on earth, widespread among the Turks, Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Bashkirs, and Tatars. It became the basis for most of today's bowed instruments worldwide, including European instruments such as violin, viola, cello, and contrabass. The Kyrgyz variant is called Kyl kayak. The instrument is carved from a single piece of wood (typically apricot), juniper (arsha), maple, pine tree, or birch. It consists of three parts: head (bas), middle (base is keude), and lower part (ayak) and usually measures 60-70 cm. It has two strings made from horsetail hair, one to provide melody and the other resonance. The bow is shaped like an archer's bow, and its string is tied to both ends of the bent branch and affixed with strong threads of camel wool.
The other instrument is a Kazakh side-blown flute called a Sybyzgy, traditionally played by shepherds and horse herders. It is made from apricot wood or the wood of mountain bushes and makes the sound of birds. The rainstick is a long, hollow tube partially filled with small pebbles or beans that has small pins or thorns arranged helically on its inside surface. When the stick is upended, the pebbles fall to the other end of the tube, bouncing off the internal protrusions to create a sound reminiscent of falling rain. Here it is used to imitate the sound of the wind blowing the grasses of the Steppe. The instruments on the wall are various styles of Dombra plus a Jetigen, a 7 stringed Zither, and a drum.
    LYRICS (from lyricstranslate.com):
Mountain breeze, my amazing country, my endless lake,
What days await me as a soldier,
You keep coming into my mind from time to time,
My amazing homeland, where I was born and raised
    I wasn't riding; I was walking,
    Even slower than walking,
    Been strolling for 15 days
    In the direction of Omsk
I'm at the age of two cycles, the year of the cow
By the will of Fate, I went farther away
Mountain breeze, my amazing country, you're left behind
From the hollow field, we are the only ones
    I had parents,
    Of progressed age,
    Since this song was written,
    It's been 16 years.
Mountain breeze, my amazing country, my endless lake,
What days await me as a soldier
