Exactly. When I draw my anxiety or depression I draw them as monsters, that try to control me, so the fact that all the monsters Mary fought are all basically based off of mental illnesses, and almost all the ones that I have, the series really makes me feel like I’m not alone, and that there are others suffering with similar problems as mine, and even some of my friends, so it gives me the strength to help others. I love hiimarymary.

Film Theory did a video of a theory on that the house is her symbolism of her having an addiction & the garden being her oasis of escape from the mental torture ahes going thru. It's really good & his theory has a good hold tbh

The part where she's suddenly outside but then back inside is also so true in the metaphor of depression, for me personally, being out in nature always relieved my depression a lot, it was a huge distraction and such a different sensory situation from home life and city life that I felt really free from my burdens, and then having to go back home after camping or hiking is like being trapped in the dark with the monster again.
I don't get this so this is not an actual haunting but someone showing the horrible things she experiences on account of depression? I had no idea some people suffered this much I really feel so bad about this. 😭😭😭

Maria is the ''pretty'' part of her hiding inside, nagging her because she is ''So much prettier'', she laughs at Mary cause she's not pretty enough, even when she tries her best.
The cloaked figure is the bad thoughts, the ones saying that she's not good enough, that she's pathetic and everything.
The dark figure is the depression that can come with this kind of mental illness.
Its the dark shadow that I am unsure of, maybe it's the harm that comes with it? Self h@rm and/or su!c!dal thoughts?
And the fact that she doesn't have any sort of contact with the outside world, I have two theory ; It might be because in her mind she is alone, she can't be helped and she has to face her ''demons'' alone. That or she's in a coma after a su!c!de attempt?
This is just my overall opinion, feel free to share your thoughts!

As someone with bad depression, I tend to isolate myself when I’m at my worst. Because I don’t want to burden other people... like the shadow over my shoulder saying I’m weighing everyone else down with my problems. People with ED can also deal with that as well. I have a few friends who’ve been through that. Either way it’s horrible and I wish it on no one except rapists

From what i've heard apparently the house is supposed to be her mind? And the monsters are supposedly mental illnesses. Marissa (The mirror woman) is apparently some sort of ED mindset trying to force her to change or to be prettier, The Veiled Lady (The one that attacks her and chases her) is depression, Chasing her no matter what and she just cant seem to get away. The Shadow Figure (The first one she tries to talk to asking what it wants etc) is apparently Regret, No matter how many times you try to reason with it, it never truly goes away, It never leaves you, she tried to ask "what do you want" "why are you here" but as it grow closer she says "alright time to move" and runs away, never facing it, running away from your regrets, But then it appears behind her, because you can never truly get away from regret. and before i talk about the dark mist i'd like to say, The house? And how it provides her with food, clothes, electricity, water, etc, is a low dosage of pills that can help, And during the day she goes and gets more, But they're not enough, and when she finds the garden its a higher dosage, the monsters cant get her there, but she runs out and can't get more so she gets stuck in the house again, I don't know how to explain the confidence she randomly gets for no reason though. The mist? Its something she thinks she can beat, but in reality, it makes the others stronger, something like a therapist you thought you could trust but they make it worse. Sorry its long, i had to rant

* this is my opinion, every opinion is welcome here, and idea what is happening in this serie.* i think she’s trapped in her mind. ( choma, overdose.) she’s battling with one mental illnes or many. She’s going thru every fear she has. ( afraid she’ll end up alone. Not accepted the way she is, not good enough. And dark thoughts as suicide) so she’s battling all of it in her head and trying to battle her worst fears and learns to accept herself the way she is. I’m not saying mentall illnes is easy to accept ofc not. But I think she’s trying to understand herself. And when she does she’s going to wake up from her ” head” if yall know what i’m trying to explain. The dark figure is the dark thoughts she has that’s why it’s following her everywhere she goes. And Maria is how Mary thinks everyone else thinks of her. This is really hard to explain because my first language is not English 😂 but i tried i hope some of yall understand what i mean🤦🏻♀️

I watched it all the way through before watching this video and I ended up crying. I didn't realize what it was at first and thought it was just a spooky series. It's heavy, and it resonated with me so hard.

Holy crap this is honestly terrifying and im not even done with the inter video yet. It's 11pm i really shouldn't have watched this.
Maybe all the "monsters" are her negative thoughts and trying to run away from her problems. The house could be a representation of how she feels trapped and no matter where she turns to there's always going to be her low self esteem following. When the monsters "torture" her it might mean she's harming herself or she's having a breakdown. During the night she's all alone and only with her thoughts so maybe that's why at night the problems are worse. During day she's with people she can distract herself but she still feels trapped because she has to hide her low self esteem. Maybe she spiraling into insanity and that's why everythings slowly getting worse. When she all the sudden became brave maybe that's because she was done with life and went completely numb. Just a theory.

Now when someone ask me how it feels to struggle with my depression and anxiety I can just show them the hiimmarymary videos.
I think anyone with social anxiety or self-image issues can definitely find something to relate to in Mary’s videos. They are so effectively creepy, too, in such a subtle way.
This is weirding me out. I just had a dream last night about being stuck in a school instead of a house and the lights don’t always work so when the lights shut off you have to bolt because something is chasing you. And those figures just hit too close to home rn 😭😭

idk i u know this but all the monsters are her negative feelings beauty is self loathing i think darkness is depression the vailed lady is anxiety and the shadow is fear i think the thing is she can defeat the monsters but the main antagonist is the forest because it represents drugs which we can see from how the forest starts out beautifully and slowly turns darker and it starts dieing the lady in white is her conscious and she tries to tell her to stop doing drugs if u havent realised the house is her mind and the forest is the drug that helps her escape her mind in the last episode she has accepted her problems and has learned how to live with her emotions instead of running away from it and facing her emotions head on

Why do I feel like it's her mind? Like something happened and now she's stuck in her mind? That's why the house is keeping her healthy and stuff. The darkness: Anxiety
The garden: Mary’s turn to drugs to feel better, most likely heroine, because of the affects the garden does to Mary, her teeth being pulled out easily, and her hair falling out.
Oh, also, the woman in white is like a presence who is trying to reach out to her and helper in a healthy way, however it may be confusing to see she’s trying to help Mary, because she mouths to her to get out of the garden, saying it’s dangerous. She is trying to get Mary out of her drug addiction. Also, the phone calls and doorbell ringing is also a presence, such as is trying to get to her, trying to help her.

Somehow i relate to Marys story. Just bc of everything that’s going on in my head. Alone, scared, haunted, angry and sometimes feeling like I’m going insane. Idk i feel like this represents the struggle of having a mental disorder or multiple mental disorders like me. Being alone and sad then suddenly gets a glimpse of hope and happiness just for it to be taken away from you so quick. Being in the dark again... :))

Found this series in one of your videos covering spooky UA-cam channels & became obsessed. I love all things horror. Then I started figuring out that it was much deeper than a random arg horror type show. The fact that it took months to Year's for new uploads in it's self was a shining bright light on mental illness & addictions Oh did it hit home for me. I have multiple diagnosis of mental illness and personality disorders, ECT ranging from depression, anxiety BPD, PTSD to agoraphobia along with some substance abuse. This one had me on edge, scared and in tears by the end. Talented young lady. Thank you for bringing me this series Miss Lane, you're awesome.
