    You should definitely draw/paint a sign ‘politely’ informing litterers that your plot is a work in progress and not a rubbish bin!

    You could get a bird barth and put it next to your pond and you could watch them while you relax and maybe some bird feeders for winter

    If you intend on your compost bin to be in the front, you can welcome peelings and such to be added to your compost pile, or put a bucket and a sign. I think once those areas are cleaned up you may find you have little or none of other peoples trash

    Use your stinging nettle for plant food. Use one of your big tubs, throw in a bunch of nettles, and fill up with water. After a month you can use the water as nutrition for your plants. Also spray on your plants for pests. 😊

    • @solrunnmfresvik7799
      @solrunnmfresvik7799 7 місяців тому +3

      Yes. Put the nettle in a net bag, like the ones you buy fire wood in, then it will be like a big tea bag, and easy to pull out.

    The plot is really taking shape and looking good.
    You have inspired me to get out into my garden and start trying to tame it. My late husband used to do our garden. I’ve also been recovering from a slipped disc these last 2years so have struggled to bend etc so haven’t been able to do anything in the garden. Seeing you tackle a small area at a time I decided to give it a go. So far I have mended two raised beds and cleared them of weeds. I just need to decide what to grow in them as I plod on, albeit very slowly, with other areas.
    I’m looking forward to seeing how your crops grow.

    Yes, somebody loves to eat the petals off the pansies: ME! decades ago in college, I dated a woman whose sorority had adopted the pansy as their official flower. Their cook often fed them pansies in their salads, since the flowers are edible and delicious! Try 'em!
    I don't know the name of the little brown bird with a red face at 14:20, but I saw one here in my Colorado garden this week as well!
    I'm having fun watching you clean up your new allotment, Seren! It makes me grateful that I didn't have to clean up someone else's mess when I started my garden!

    Instead of expensive copost, it is better to buy enriched garden soil, which contains some compost. If you are going to make your own nutritional tea, it does not make much difference to bridge the time until the tea is ready, you can supplement your soil with dried cows. manure grains. everything is available at a good garden center

    You could make so much nettle tea! LOL You could also refer to Huw Richards on YT as I believe he uses a nettle compost tea that you might be interested in as it would dispose of all the nettle, roots and all. Jessie at Plot 37 uses a wildlife camera and if you had one, you would be able to tell who the mysterious orange depositor is as well as the digger in the garden. You have made such great progress, it's inspiring! 😄

Also, for your carrots, it might help to put a little trench of seed compost just for the carrots, as they need consistent moisture contact to germinate (and you said the compost you have there might be a bit too woody), I hope it helps ! good luck and hello from France :)

    I was forced to use some cups bottoms cut off to protect anything the slugs, bugs can get at until the plants grew stronger. Yes it looks untidy but some wires bent over can anchor the cups from feet, wind and animals.
    I deliberately started feeding the birds so the slugs are dealt with just before sunrise. It's made a difference, although they tend to munch on things too like pansies which are edible.

    Doing well with clearing and setting out and planting well done!
    Shame people are putting their rubbish on your plot, leave your buckets towards the back of the plot, also you can sieve the compost to get the bigger rougher stuff out, that can go lower down and put the nicer stuff up top to plant into (I watched a blog about it)
