Same. It’s a song that’s not about anything fun, but there’s a sheer joy in the cathartic release of energy and artistry. It’s what some music can do that is difficult to get anywhere else.
Hearing Bob belt these lyrics with this kind of passion, pain, and fury so many years after originally recording these songs...pure chills. The world will *always* need the power of punk rock.
Their first and last album I got. They broke up after that saw tour two nights in a row Milwaukee then Madison wisc saw replacements pleased to meet me tour also that year both bands in my top ten
The last time I saw Bob live he was FAT and was still in Husker Du (85 or 86). I later had all his solo stuff and with Sugar through the 90s, but I hadn’t seen him in 2 decades since the Huskers broke up. I didn’t even know he trimmed down. Then in 2009 I heard that Bob was playing a local bar in Philly (North Star Bar) and I decided to go. I didn’t know what to expect. Anyway, the opening act finished their set and cleared the stage. Then some skinny bearded, bespectacled dude in a hooded sweatshirt with the hood up came out and set up an amp, mic, and effects pedals, then left the stage. No drums, no bass amp, no additional mics... nothing. Not even a stool. About 20 minutes later, Bob came out onto the stage (it was he who was the hooded roadie 20 minutes earlier)! I was stunned at how great he looked. He strapped on that guitar and started slashing into some blistering chords of a Sugar song, singing like he meant every word, and the goosebumps took me over the entire set! Bob had the most powerful presence and diamond-sharp focus and determination that night. Everyone was feeling it and it just rolled through the crowd to the back of the room and up to the stage again, and he just fed off it. In all my years seeing live bands (metal, punk, grunge), I’ve never seen anything more powerful than that lone figure of Bob Mould with his guitar ripping through a set of his best work that night.
Yeah, he has some good 'bad attitude', meaning that he stopped drinking in 86 and before that skipped speed and stuff .. Damn in my eyes he looks so much more rough and steady in 2019 comparin to early Husker or even Sugar -days back in the 90's. Not many guys can do that.
What I like about Dave Grohl is that he gives so much respect to all the bands that he grew up on and loved no matter how old or underground they are despite how popular he is.
Yup. He never forgot where he came from - drumming in an obscure D.C. based hardcore band called Scream. And to his immense credit, he's been boosting his contemporaries from that first era ever since. You can tell he deeply loves the music from his youth and the artists that made it. A few years before Grant Hart died, he lost his house and all of his belongings in a fire; apparently Dave found out and spent quite a white trying (ultimately unsuccessfully) to convince Grant to let him buy him a new house. Not many people would do something like that for an acquaintance, even if they could.
This rules. Bob Mould is amazing. Dave Grohl is teeming with excitement from playing with this legend. The rhythm section is so tight and full of energy. The back-ups are spot on. The result: this rules!
I'll never be a Foo Fighters fan, their music goes over my head and flows past me. Having said that, Dave Grohl is the coolest musician on the planet. He refuses to take his celebrity seriously and erases the barrier between fan and band. Can't say enough nice things about that guy.
Foo fighters used to be great albumwise but they released best of you stuck to a formula, stuck to the rules, stopped taking risks and forgot his roots in the music hes writing imo.
I’ve seen Bob a few times and I’ve never seen such tight sound in small bars. Guy is amazing. I had never really listened to the FF before a couple years ago. It actually brought me back to the years where I would listen to albums and not just songs. The songs I liked are often the ones I’ve never heard or the critics panned. Dave is good at writing sing along hooks.
I was at this Bob Mould tribute show at the Walt Disney Concert Hall that night. Seen Bob numerous times over the years, but this was a special night with so many great artists showing him some respect. Ice Cold Ice with Dave was definitely one of the highlights.
I can't believe I just saw this now. Bob Mould and Dave Grohl are two of my all time favorites. Mould is so underrated! I love that Grohl just loves jamming and has a passion for great rock.
This should be a thing. Bob Mould and Dave Grohl. Like a whole album. I'm not sure there is much more awesomeness to be had. MAke it happen for the sale of 2020!
I had no idea this had happened! I'm so happy that Ice Cold Ice got stuck in my head today and I decided to look it up on UA-cam. This is so amazing! Seriously. Bob Mould, you will always be among my favorite songwriters and guitarists.
There's something about "Ice Cold Ice" that still gives me goosebumps pretty much every time I hear it. I guess it's just that brilliant. "Contributions" by 100 Flowers is another one. Timeless, transcendent stuff.
Amazing song and a great version of it. Purchased my tickets today to see Bob in September. Been a Husker Du/Sugar/Bob fan since 1985 and this will be my first time seeing him live. Can't wait!
I know this is super old but the last time I saw Bob was at a small bar in Lawrence, KS (the Bottleneck) and he played the whole Copper Blue album in order tuned perfectly to that album. It was above any expectations and also the show where I finally decided to wear ear protection.
Bob Mould ... Have forgotten him but now he's back. His songs and mix of sensitivity and raw power touched and touches my heart! What a combination with Dave Grohl, I have no words. And look at the rigs - classic guitars and amps. Cant beat that. Simply great
Nobody like Bob…he is authentically always himself. His music and voice are iconic…listened to him my whole life, and this song with Dave supporting it is just freggin epic. I mean it’s just dripping with in your face punk rock…
You can tell that Dave is loving every minute of this. Husker Du was such huge influence. I started playing guitar in the mid 80's. Husker Du was one my many influences.
I can't say if I love more Bob or Dave... The way Grohl is singing, so happy, so proud to be there...surely thinking of Grant, in the deep of his heart.. When Artists are R'n'R Heroes
They completely broke the Mould when Bob hit the scene. Expressing every iota of thinking from a truly open mind. You gave us hope of better possibilities at the end of a broken life. Rebuild and move on. Yes.
He retired the V almost immediately after leaving Hüsker Dü... and has pretty much exclusively played the blue Strat live ever since, as far as I can tell.
Bob Mould = National Fucking Treasure This performance! Good fucking lord! Zen Arcade changed my life. Bob is my #1 fave rocker PERIOD. always has been.
As awesome as Bob Mould is in this song and in general as a musician, I always like to focus on Jon Wurster's, Animal from the Muppet Show-like, drumming when I watch this video. Wurster is one of the best drummers out there.
No love lost to Husker or Sugar, but Bob's current band is undeniably amazing. So much sound and so much soul from only three people. It's pretty clear that everyone on board is in love with this.
@@NotoriousV.I.C. they always look like they're having so much fun playing together. That sort of easygoing, chemistry is hard to come by between musicians, and hard to sustain as well. Probably easier for these guys 'cuz they've been doing this for so long and have seen it all.
We could only ever hope to play out with one of our heroes like this. Dave - no disrespect to him, he's a treasure - made a career our of playing Husker Du and Sonic Youth songs.
Henrys Dream So true - the Foo Fighters are a really good band IMO and by all accounts Dave Grohl is a good guy. Besides, having arguably the biggest rock band in the world fronted by a huge Husker Du/Bob Mould fan is way better than almost any other alternative.
I have watched this 20 times. Unreal chemistry between Bob and Dave!!! Unreal!!!!
and with Jason and Jon.......
Same. It’s a song that’s not about anything fun, but there’s a sheer joy in the cathartic release of energy and artistry. It’s what some music can do that is difficult to get anywhere else.

True, but I truly miss Grant..
Best song ever. Warehouse was a masterpiece..love it.
i put it first
Their first and last album I got. They broke up after that saw tour two nights in a row Milwaukee then Madison wisc saw replacements pleased to meet me tour also that year both bands in my top ten
My buddy who recently passed away analyzed that album for some class his freshman year at uni. Miss you, Jay.
Bob Mould has never lost that unique voice he has! Amazing!
Bob has such a great voice.
Confession ... I didn't like many of Grant's songs . And never found his voice that hot .But , dug all Bob's . So there !.
Bob has much more melodic voice and song writing skills
SO GREAT! So full of emotion.
This fucking rules.
Bob's voice sounds fantastic.
And his guitar

Awesome !! You nailed the unparalleled intensity and sincerity of a Bob-show, be it solo acoustic, solo electric or full-band !!! Thanks !
FAT ?..the fucks wrong with you ?
HULK HOGAN some people are naturally overweight with genetics
Wow 🤩
What I like about Dave Grohl is that he gives so much respect to all the bands that he grew up on and loved no matter how old or underground they are despite how popular he is.
How could one say that better than you , my newest pal ?
Also I could have said it better . I jus dint feels all like dat dare .
Well said!

Even during the part where the bassist and Bob are carrying the vocals he goes back to the drummer so the focus is on them.
Love how this is sound so melodically powerful, Bob voice is so intense. Husker du wrote the history of melodic power punk
And Bob westerburg
This rules. Bob Mould is amazing. Dave Grohl is teeming with excitement from playing with this legend. The rhythm section is so tight and full of energy. The back-ups are spot on. The result: this rules!
yes! bob is the legend, dave may b a star but bob is the legend
Seeing Bob Mould and Dave Grohl playing this song together is 6 minutes of heaven! Two of my biggest rock idols playing this song beyond perfectly! 👍
For those of you who don't think Dave Grohl is adding any guitar parts during the chorus, he is providing 100% of the jangle chords.
Bob is like a fine wine, he just gets better with time, he's voice is amazing :-)
Props to the bassman for holding the backing vocals on the turnaround
That’s the great Jason Narducy from Chicago. Local legend around here
I don't normally get much from superstar jams but this is great and pretty true to the Dü.
I'll never be a Foo Fighters fan, their music goes over my head and flows past me. Having said that, Dave Grohl is the coolest musician on the planet. He refuses to take his celebrity seriously and erases the barrier between fan and band. Can't say enough nice things about that guy.
I'm with you, but there are some pretty good moments in the Foo's discography, and as a drummer he's deadly.
Foo fighters used to be great albumwise but they released best of you stuck to a formula, stuck to the rules, stopped taking risks and forgot his roots in the music hes writing imo.
Dave is cool but not as cool as Bob.
@@The55nomad bobs so cool man!

Yeah, well I just found it now! Holy cow, Wurster is killing it on the drums.
That chord at 40 seconds gets me every time...goosebumps!!! 🥶

Narducey's bass just chugs a long like a steam train awsome ! and wurster's drumming . Bob and dave just brilliant.
Two of the most humble guys in music, incredible.
Back again, listened many times, end of many hard days at work, this is balm. Performance for the ages of a great tune.
Bob still has it... gets better and better actually. Love it!
Bob puts so much energy into the song then just strolls to the kit as if he'd just been sitting playing an acoustic song, class
I love how Dave has played with his heroes. Also that beautiful blue guitar.
There's something about "Ice Cold Ice" that still gives me goosebumps pretty much every time I hear it. I guess it's just that brilliant. "Contributions" by 100 Flowers is another one. Timeless, transcendent stuff.
The fact that people watch this and listened and put a thumbs down.... Unfathomable
The drummer is great!!!
Ever heard of Superchunk?
Yes to you both

this. is . beautiful.....thanks Bob for the music and Dave for keeping it alive......
We're blessed by icons, no one else to curse.
Two absolute fucking legends
Brother Jon on the drums beating the shit out of those skins. Dude is underrated-- just gets better stamina with age
My absolute favorite clip on youtube!
Bob is still creative and has the burning punk of husker du days!! Another Minnesota gem alongside Prince and Bob Dylan!!!
And they are playing at the Palace theatre in March fyi
What a great pair of music lovers sounds great!!! Daves having a blast.
THEY PULLED A GREAT PERFORMANCE OUT OF A GIANT
You can tell that Dave is loving every minute of this. Husker Du was such huge influence. I started playing guitar in the mid 80's. Husker Du was one my many influences.
I miss Grant Hart, but Jon Wurster is clearly up to the task. Amazing drumming.
You look great Bob! I’m getting choked up because Dave reminds me so much of Grant. ♥️
Shivers here too. I didn't expect that. Wow.
Bob Mould`s new album is a classic
***** "Beauty and Ruin"? Pure genius!
That sounded fucking awesome one of bobs master strokes !!!
Bob, truly of immovable stature. Glad to enjoy being a fan. Thanks bob
I can't say if I love more Bob or Dave... The way Grohl is singing, so happy, so proud to be there...surely thinking of Grant, in the deep of his heart.. When Artists are R'n'R Heroes
Dave still enjoys playing. He’s the opposite of the brooding Rock Star who is tortured by fame and money
how literally dare they be so good
Amazing as usual, Mr. Mould. Been a fan since before this song emerged from your cranium. :)
That's one pretty amazing version!
Awesome mix! Bob Mould is a god among mortals. Thanks Bob Mould!!
Fresh as ever!
Great performance - Bob still sounding great.
Such a good guitar sound

Always give props to Dave for his wide-ranging tastes and the way he honors the bands he loved growing up. But Grant is irreplaceable.
Unbelievable incredible! :)❤
Gave me Goosebumps...
Singing it fully!!!
Completely and utterly amazing
Sent shivers through me...amazing.
Just awesome!
Absolutely wow
Awesome! Only complaint is that Bob should be playing his Flying V guitar :-D
He retired the V almost immediately after leaving Hüsker Dü... and has pretty much exclusively played the blue Strat live ever since, as far as I can tell.

Great song. I always jam with the drummer like Dave did toward the end when I'm playing in a band.
Thanks Bob!
Wurster is great
AWESOME!!
This is great!
This blows me away every time I watch it - love it, love it, love it!
FANTASTIC GIG!!
Fantastic - looking forward to seeing the whole thing.
Chills!
You hear this expression so many times fucking brilliant but this is fucking brilliant.

More a Bob fan than a Dave fan, but holy shit this on stage partnership fucking rocks. Real Du feels
