- After the devastating loss of Heath Ledger, Michelle Williams was left feeling as though she lost the one true love of her life. Feelings of guilt overwhelmed her after breaking up with the actor only 5 months prior to his passing. Feeling as though she might have made the biggest mistake of her life, Michelle tried to throw herself back into the dating game hoping she might find a suitable role model for her daughter and perhaps a bit of Heath in each man she dated. Yes they both really loved each other. They broke up in late 2007... In 2008 heath ledger had problems sleeping due to his work load producing film and also because of the break up from Michelle. He was then taking 3 sleeping tablets and 2 pain killer tablets, oxycodone & hydrocodone, which should never be mixed as they basically suppress your immune system and if you take enough lowers heart rate until it puts you to sleep and then you loose consciousness. Ledger was told not to mix them , his response was " I'll be fine " ...it was a multiple of factors as to why he was taking them, Michelle broke up from ledger because his drug use was getting out of hand, there is no question he abused sleeping and pain tablets. Once you truly love someone , it never goes away, ever. I guarantee Michelle still loves him, but you have to move on with your life.

She's wonderful as was Heath. She just couldn't watch him destroy himself with drugs. She didn't stop loving him but she had to choose to walk way for her child during his worst parts of addiction.

I don't think Jake is REALLY Matilda's Godfather. I think Heath and Jake just made that up during one of the endless interviews they were giving during the Awards Season campaign for the film, as an 'in joke' between themselves. Heath hated doing all those interviews and the whole Awards campaign, whereas Michelle loved it and that's when they started to fight and he realised they were totally different people.

You seem to have things mixed love - he died because he had a lung infection and he was using chemist medications that shouldn't be mixed, he did not overdose on recreational drugs

I adored Heath and I'm sorry he passed. My comment is about Jake though. I heard where Heath was the first close person to Jake to pass away or something like that. And he was what 30 or so when Heath died. I'm so jealous. I've lost too many people to count and it started early. Much much younger than Jake. It's just not fair... 💔

I have no idea what went on between Michelle Williams and Heath Ledger. Nor do I find that relevant. What we do know for sure is that at the time of his death, she was not his girl, and he was not her man. They were exes. His death was premature, tragic and inscrutable. I cannot or dare not imagine how hard it must have been for those who loved her - a bunch that includes, but is not limited to Michelle Williams. No intention to minimize her pain here, but to me it seems that HIS death somehow came to be about HER, and that the media have been casting her as its protagonist ever since. She was made into this tragic, dignified heroine coming to terms with her grief for the sake of their beloved daughter and learning to trust life again and to give love another chance, and so on, and so forth. But she was not the only human being whom he loved and left behind. Despite this, HIS death is made central to HER narrative, a narrative that claims to prevail over the experiences of loss and trauma his other loved ones might have gone through. What if he was dating someone else and was planning to sort his shit out for that new relationship, as soon as he wrapped filming (and of course, never got the chance to)? What's with all this rhethoric about her and their child not being included in his will and the celebration of her "struggles" as a single mum, when it is safe to assume that she was in a place of relative privilege all along, being a white, beautiful, talented, respected, thriving actress? I know single mothers who were widowed or women whose husbands had lost their jobs or were alcoholic or violent or something else REALISTICALLY gruesome and had to live in small one-bedroom apartments, just doing their best to make ends meet. So, single parenting a child as a well-established, well-to-do professional with a solid network of friends and supporters and packaging it as heroism is not only ridiculous, but disrespectful towards the real battles that "commonors" have to fight each day.

Correct. He was in a new and happy relationship with Gemma Ward with whom he spent his last Christmas with in Perth meeting each other's parents. And Michelle secretly was with Spike Jonze months before Heath died in January 2008. She got together with Jonze during the Synedoche New York shoot in the summer of 2007. In any case, SHE knew she wasn't Heath's widow, so it really got on the nerves of his friends that she would play that card to promote herself. In actual fact her and Heath were at war because she hadn't let him see Matilda for 3 months before his death and he was going to fight for custody in court. What a nerve she had to afterwards go and play the poor little widow when she clearly wasn't. That's why Terry Gilliam and Nicola Pecorrino spoke up about it all in Vanity Fair's June 2009 issue titled 'The Last of Heath'.

They were never even married and no one knows who left who, but we do know that Heath stopped being in love with her just a few months after Matilda was born, and after the Award campaigns for Brokeback Mountain (in early 2006). They secretly broke up several months before making it public and were also secretly dating other people by then, Heath was dating Gemma Ward and Michelle was dating Spike Jonze, who she filmed Synedoche New York with during the summer of 2007. The official breakup was in September 2007, if I recall correctly.

No, that was a lie the press made up. They made up so much shit after he died, it wasn't funny. He was actually in a relationship with Australian supermodel and fellow New York resident Gemma Ward, and had been for a few months, they even spent Christmas together in Perth where they met each other's families. That's why when he died, Kim Ledger (Heath's dad) flew back to Perth with Gemma in a private plane for the funeral. She stayed in the the background, like the classy lady she is, while Michelle Williams played the widow in front of the cameras. Gemma actually was in deep mourning/depression for 4 or 5 years after Heath's sudden death. Didn't date anyone until she met who is now the father of her children, who funnily enough looks ALOT like Heath (but with dark hair). BTW when Heath died, Michelle was already also in a secret relationship with Spike Jonze. In other words, they had both moved on.

Accidentally overdosed on prescription drugs for severe back pain, near pneumonia, anxiety and insomnia. Oh and he was also suffering from extreme jetlag. He was also very excited about his directorial debut (was going to make a film based on the novel Queen's Gambit) and had just begun the casting process, with Ellen Page in the lead role. I can just imagine him in severe pain because of his back (that he had injured whilst filming The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus), then his near pneumonia, taking pills for them, then taken pills for his insomnia and anxiety. Not a good combination at all.

Life happens and people change over time. Noone ever marries with the intention to divorce (decent people anyway). Divorce is the messiest, most expensive and taxing thing ever. If they'd rather go through that, then it really shows their troubles.

The guy she's with now, that Thomas Kali had a long term girlfriend, I believe they were even engaged, when he began shooting Fosse/Verdon with Michelle, who in turn was just a few months into her marriage wth Phil Elverum whose wife had died like a year before from cancer, and they thought nothing of having an affair and then leaving their partners. And then suddenly Michelle was pregnant with Kali, so he then married her. I guess she didn't get rid of the baby because she was already a famous actress, and it would probably also be her last chance of being a mother again.
