  • Thanks again to the one and only Sting who shared his profound insights with me recently for The Doctone Project. Kenny Kirkland played with Sting for 11 years and it was their collaboration that got me into jazz and inspired so many others... #Sting #Kennykirkland #Doctone #jazz #film

    I met Kenny a few times. He was incredibly humble. I think his work with Sting was great but I feel that Kenny's voice was best when playing Jazz.

      His solo in Shadows in the Rain maybe the only worthwhile solo that ever came out of a DX-7. He takes that ridiculous dinky fake electric piano sound and makes it smoke!

    Ho visto Sting nel 1987 all'Arena di Verona. Un concerto memorabile! Avevo 17 anni ed ero venuto ad ascoltare oltre a Sting Kenny Kirkland: sono rimasto con gli occhi e le orecchie ad ascoltare per tutto il concerto quel grande pianista che ci ha lasciati troppo presto.

    For a long time I've tried to get my head around the solo from Bring on the Night, which is maybe the best Piano Solo in pop music so far. Maybe they cut some takes together. If it is only one take, this Piano solo is from another world. No wrong notes. Everything makes perfect sense. Kenny Kirkland was a genius like Charlie Parker. Will you make a complete film out of this? I hope so.

    • @RogerBiwandu
      @RogerBiwandu 2 роки тому +5

      Of course it's one take, come on man !!!
      It was the solo of that night...
      Kenny was a genius man, genius doesn't need more than one take, they just play, and then you choose what you prefer, but all are GREAT for sure !!!

    • @lucamattioni
      @lucamattioni 2 роки тому +3

      Sure It's one take only. You can listen to different solos in different Sting's gigs on the same track. He more likely prepared some licks as patterns to approach the chords progression and then improvised with different nuances in each gig. He was pure talent, he had incredible rhythmic skills and amazing musicality ( crazy stuff on only 3 simple chords ! )

      Kenny was a genius for sure, not to detract from that I don't feel however that he is comparabe to Charlie Parker, mostly becuase there are very few people who can be. IMO, Parker's league includes peopel like MIles Davis, Art Tatum, and the like.

    I saw Sting and Kenny play on Sting's second solo album and Kenny's solos were on an other level. I've never been able to describe it but a lot of stuff almost sounded like a "mistake" and then suddenly wasn't. LOL So when Sting said that I was like HA! yeah.

    I wish Sting would take some more creative risks and be more edgy. Look at Sumner's Tales. It was dark, a lot of odd time signatures and unusual chords. The same feel as Synchro or Ghost. Sting thrives better in adversity.
