I'm not much of a bay rum fan either, but this one is amazing! I'm so happy Douglas, Fran, and Hux offered the 2nd chance calendar. What a treat for Day 1!
@@jeffdenker145 it is a great way to start off the calendar. I am glad you got a chance to get it on the second round. I just wonder what adventures lay ahead in the calendar. Thanks for watching Jeff!
Went to my local Walmart to look for that Duke Cannon "Santa's Pipe Smoke" soap. They had about a half dozen scents but not that one, so I got the "Big Ass Lump Of Coal". I like charcoal based things like the PAA black "Cube" and this is also a good one. It has, to me, a pine and smoke aroma which I like. But I wanted to cut that big brick into three smaller pieces, and it isn't easy with that triple milled soap. I would rate it at Rc' 65 on the Rockwell hardness scale, lol. My wife let me use her big serrated knife she uses to cut frozen meat and I gave up after one piece. I think you need either an electric carving knife or a reciprocating saw. I did a search for that "Santa's Pipe Smoke" and found that it's available at my local Lowe's center of all places, so I'll head over there today to grab a block. You're right about one thing, you definitely wouldn't want to drop it on your foot.
@@chrislj2890 I found mine right up front where all the season stuff is usually placed. The bar of soap is huge, it’s bigger in person than it looks on camera. Let me know if you find one.
@@lawrence1md Just got back from Lowe's and they had a big display stand with a ton of different Duke Cannon soaps. They were 25% off if you bought three or more. I got the "Santa's Pipe Smoke", "Yule Brick", "Bay Rum". and "Midnight Swim". Along with the "Lump Of Coal" I already have that's enough soap for about 10,000 showers. Guess I will have to take one after every meal, lol.

Although there are a lot of different outfits in the industry, I think that Phoenix Shaving is the leader that all others are chasing or try to emulate. Between their clever artwork, high quality products, and never ending experimentation they are the one to beat. And I still claim that their S.S. Ascension Twist razor is the best DE out there, at least for me. Hey, with all of that straight razor stuff going on you prompted me to use my shavettes again, but in conjunction with my Ascension while I practice. So far no blood like before, lol.
@@chrislj2890 I would agree that many people inspire to have a business like PAA. Douglas just makes shaving fun! I would keep at the shavettes, just work at the cheeks at first. Then switch to the de to complete the shave. As you become more and more comfortable just do a little farther each time. Next thing you know you will be a master. Nicks will still happen sometimes, I think it’s just part of it. Thanks for watching Chris!
