- Kemimoto asked if I'd like to test out some of ther many products and since my 2016 Ski Doo Freeride 800 was in need, I decided to see how well their "Claw" style Ice Scratchers would work. In this video I show the tests and results.

Ski doo tunnel scratchers. They cost over a hundred bucks but they work great and are easily put away when not in use. I have some on my ski doo renegade 137 track trail sled. Like WD mentions they dont have to be very far forward they just have to dirct snow on to the snow flap and the flap directs snow up to the cooler. Any scratchers are better than NO scratchers.
Agreed. My son in law has the ski doo ones and they work great and even fold up when not needed. His are even made for backing up.
I have a set of skidoo tunnel mounted scratchers, retro fitted onto my 2015 yamaha sr viper. They work great. At 1st I thought they would be mounted too far back, but they do all the work they need to and more, great cooling, easy access, reverse able, and have replaceable tips
I'm another one that uses the Ski-Doo scratchers on my 2016 Blizzard, they work great and can be hooked on a bracket they give you when it's not necessary to use them.
I've found the scratcher need good carbide to last, the China scratcher are made cheaply and wear out in a few rides the dura flex with the round carbide tip last quite long usually multiple seasons and thousands of miles. Riding in WI. Has lots of icey trail or packed so tight scratchers are required on big bore sleds.
I also have a friend with doo running board scratchers and they come with a nice clip and can be backed up with, have not witnessed how long they last but duraflex with the round carbide puck are my favorite.
They look too far forward IMO. But if they work for you, that's fine. Also, there are hangers you can get so they don't have to clip on the rails to hang 'em. I use cable scratchers and I use hangers to avoid getting marks in my rails. I only drop mine when trail conditions are hard packed and when the sled is being trailered or in the garage (not in use).
Make sure you don't put them somewhere where they can bounce up and hit your running boards (kinda like where you want to mount them between those wheels). Had an 00 RMK700 where that happened. The tip bashed a spot in the running board and basically hammered the material out the other side in this big bubble of aluminum with cuts and scratches all over the backside of it. Moved them 5-6" back (where you were originally going to mount them) and no problems.
Watch out for that torsion spring hitting it. Your suspension will completely bottom out going over some bumps and that spring might do some damage to the scratcher.
Ibexx scratchers look like a nice design.
From the comments, sounds like the Ski Doo scratchers are the way to go. Noticed your Klim boots. What model are they? How do you like them? I've been wanting a new pair but not sure what to get. Thanks for taking us along on your test ride. Cheers!
I bought a set of the ice storm reversables for my m8 after I've been through the ski doo brand ones, and the cable ones you have. I'll never use another set. The ice storms have a replaceable tip too.
Buddy has theme on 17 mxz those grab everything lots of grass etc I run dura flex on my m8 153 and on my firecat seem pretty good
Picked up a 2014 xf 8000 2 weekend ago no scratches from Michigan gonna diffently put scratchers on it this spring
Cats overheat easily. Their snowflap needs to be 2" longer.
I've never used scratchers, found that when part of my snow flap got ripped off my machine started over heating in warmer temps. Replaced the flap and the problem ended.
Hey man, congrats on the Doo. I don't like the cable ones because they scratch up your rails.
You'll find the Doo doesn't need scratches nearly as much as the Cat would.
I like the Doo tunnel mounted ones. Ran the skid mounted and they work fine but I've broken at least 3 springs so far.
Riding this weekend in the UP. Know your sled is down but I got 2 extra if you wanted to ride.
They would probably be better up front on the a arms, that's where I installed my cable scratchers
If we had snow in the 70s we would not need this extra crappies lol I'm from Northern Wisconsin
The only time you have to run these are on sleds built for off trail
I install mine on the trailing inside edge f the skis
Put the BRP scratchers on. Best in the biz. Back up no issues.
I think I'll probably try those next season!
You really got forked over with those.
Those don't appear to work very good.
I go with the BRP Ski-Doo tunnel mounted Ice Scratchers. The are designed for the sled and work great! Reverse is designed in and carbide replaceable tips too. You should consider them.
Agreed. Yeah I think I'll probably try some of those.
NOPE ... your better option was behind the wheels and using the bump stop to lock the scratcher. It does not need to be that far forward.
They don't seem to do much
Anything*. Never heard of or seen those before, maybe they will tell you where the curb is when your parking
you installed those scratchers way to far forward watch some videos . i put them on mine and they sit on top of slide rail when not in use
Those are hideous and don't look like they are doing anything. They stick out way too far.
You don't have enough lug to need scratchers...
Haha yeah, it's not about the lug height here. We ride hard pack 75% of the season. I've had sleds with 0.25" tracks over heat.
Personally I think they are all worthless and not needed. IDK I've been riding for 58 yrs all the way through and have never not been able to deal with the few times that my machine was running too hot.
Installed too far out.
