    Been trying to decide between a 3rd or 4th gen for my next daily. AWD is a big factor with the winters here - this video was a great resource for comparison.

    Blue one had the least drama. I wonder why Subaru made the next gen less aggressive by default.

      Primary reason is for fuel efficiency, at the no x-mode reducing the torque sending to rear axle increases the gas mileage, and second reason is less aggressive mode allows higher speed range than full x-mode....

    So are the lower trims of the 2020 forester without the multiple x modes just shit out of luck? that seems crazy to me

    Super interesting, from test the SJ gives best results. However i would like to know if difference tire types and pressure. Also i think the age / km lifetime of gearbox etc. But from design i prefer the SH with intercooler air-intake on top.

    i think the xmode on the newer subaru dirt mode turns off after going a certain amount of speed. Its supposed to not allow as much wheel spin as the mud mode

    I wonder how Sh forester passed the side roller & diagonal & 3roller tests even though VDC was turned off. As far as i know, this model comes with 4 eat Mpt system with VDC. Maybe there is an electronic differential lock without any relay and switch off button.

    I´ve been an owner fo a SH Forester and currently own a SJ Forester which I love. However this test was not equilibrated, because I can see that the blue (SJ gen) has some kind of mild off road tires, allowing it to have more grip than the other too. Also, the driver of that same model was way more agressive from the beginning, which is not ideal for this kind of test. He should be accelerating gradually and let the system do its job like the others did.

    • @4x4.tests.on.rollers
      @4x4.tests.on.rollers  Рік тому +7

      Tyres do not influence this test, cars are not missing the grip.. When it comes to being aggressive - way more is way more said. Driver of blue one could have been pressing the accelerator slightly faster but not harder, system takes control anyway.

    SJ Forester (blue) got the rest beat, but to be fair I believe it's the XT model which means it has a turbo engine so it has more torque and power, The front bumper gave it away (I own one)

      @@4x4.tests.on.rollers Unless models are different in Europe from North America, the XT is the 2.0. The standard non-turbo has a 2.5 L engine. However, having said that, I'm not sure how much difference more torque would make for this test - it seems it's more about where the available torque is directed.

    • @4x4.tests.on.rollers

      @@bwhammm Blue one is 2.0i, naturally aspirated. XT is 2.0T so turbocharged, we also tested such version. No big difference as there is not much torque needed in this test.
