+kevin stark , Hi Kevin, This is the Ist song that put me on to Bowie. I was 17 ( 1980 ) and played it on a local pub jukebox. My older work mates bought me 3 beers in the session.Underage drinking not so strict back then in Australia ( almost looked 18 ). I had heard of the name Bowie so I selected this track. I am not surprised that boys aged 5 to 17 instantly like this masterpiece. I smiled when David said Good Night George near the end of this clip. God Bless you both.
+veritaseros actrually it is kind of obvious.i think he was surprised that a 5 year old would understand this song.i think that would be his question.why does he like it?probably just the music.
I love the look on Bowie's face when he hears George's voice. Everything disappears: celebrity, rockstardom, arrogance - just an old man humouring a wonderful little kid. Love this so much.
I could imagine the emotion of this 5 years old kid almost crying...could he imagine make a request to David Bowie himself to sing Ashes to Ashes and even call you back later? Only on my dreams...
This is heartbreaking to watch now. I know something is very wrong The post returns for prodigal songs With blackout harks with flowered muse With skull designs upon my shoes I can’t give everything I can’t give everything Away Seeing more and feeling less Saying no but meaning yes This is all I ever meant That’s the message that I sent I can’t give everything I can’t give everything Away
"...hi David Bowie!" Bowie is pure genius. this is one of my favourite tracks of his. And his album 'Heathen' ranks up with his greatest work. ...let the renaissance continue!
David Bowie, when on his game, reminds me somehow of Mikhail Barishnakov. Ashes to Ashes is such a personal song. About addiction. It really hits home. What a true artist.
I am just so amased at this clip. And it shows how genuine Mr Bowie is with Georgie. I only wished the call wouldve continued. This is the best rendition of Ashes I have ever heard. Bravo.... Kimmyskunk
David Bowie is DEFINITELY the coolest! And, as you can see by this video, he is most caring and compassionate. And if I had to pick one, I would say this is my favorite David Bowie cut.
My daughter, 15 at this time, is also taking after mom and is quite the Bowie fan. I guess I was the one that introduced her to David's music. It's also a parents job to make sure your children listen to tastful great music.
That kid will be telling that story for the rest of his life! What a great moment! Oh yeah..Bowie rocked too! One of the greatest artist of our generation. I'm happy. Hope you're happy too"- One of my favorite lines Dave!

George is now 11 years old now. He never got to speak to David that night; but his manager called the next night and sent him an autographed "Heathen" poster. We both went to his last concert in Houston. I'LL always remember David singing Night Night George !!!
You closed your eyes, take that one last breath and probably said to yourself "my job here is done!" So you left the blue Earth... Thanks for showing me that it's ok be different and that I can be a hero. Somehow you're mine and I'll always be thankful for this. See you in another place
I mean - ' man have you ever heard such a groove in any band ? ,'it was damn obvious they just had to be British.Holy crap.I'm not too surprised this is awesome, what a genius Bowie was.Bass player just singing along,as well, amazing, utter bowiness...Is masterfully achieved.
The guy was one of a kind, that's for certain. With his passing I am officially almost out of living music heroes. The day Paul McCartney dies I am packing my things and moving to Mars. "Night night, George!"

"Hi David Bowie." Haha! So great, only a kid would phrase it like that.
He had such charisma. What a kind, talented and handsome man. We will miss you x x x
If I was George I would spend the rest of my life wondering what Bowie was going to say, but never did because of the band starting.
+veritaseros Probably David called later, as he said. :-)

He didn't want the world to know he was leaving us...never one for self-pity. Bowie gave his all till the end.
the waving when he says night night george
"Dad, what's a junkie?"
ThePhalaeo ooh ow that’s some heavy stuff right there
Funniest thing I ever heard, reminds me of my now 26 year old.
"Ask your mother."

Excellent. I was afraid they wouldn't be able to get the quirky sound right in a live show but they nailed it. And rocked it up, too.
