With so many eras of The Beatles to choose from, it’s hard to pick a favourite. Which song and era stand out most to you? Let me know in the comments!

I have to go for Strawberry Fields Forever, it was the first time I heard a Mellotron and i've been in love with that sound ever since!

A note on varying tape speed: Les Paul was doing it back in the 50s, you can hear it on his album 'The New Sound'

Absolutely, Les Paul was pioneering this way before. I wasn’t trying to say The Beatles were the first, but they were one of the first to bring it into the mainstream and popularize it in pop music. Likewise with something like Tape Loops which was being done by others way before the Beatles

I never was a big fan of the Beatles but I’d say the stuff they did in the latter part of the 60’s was really good. Sgt Peppers, Abbey Road.. even some stuff on the White Album was good. My favorite from them is “I Want You”. It’s bluesy, it’s sexy… it’s heavy (no pun intended) 😂

Funnily enough, I’m actually a bigger fan of the early stuff. Not sure why-maybe it’s the simplicity of the ideas, just good old-fashioned love songs 😂

Haven't listened to much of The Beatles before, but maybe now's the time to dive in. Any recommendations on the best album to start with?

Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Great songwriting and groundbreaking production, that has stood the test of time. Though that could be said for much of their studio work from 1966 to 1969.

Listen Beatles albums from first to last. That way you can hear them progressing

There are a couple of famous compilation albums - check out the one called The Beatles 1967-1970 for a good cross-section of their later sound, including some of their more creative stuff.

Really interesting read! The Beatles were way ahead of their time with their studio innovations.

Of course the psychedelic era of the Beatles is their best period for me. Sgt. Pepper is my favorite album, but Rubber Soul is already very good. It also has a bit of a psychedelic and baroque vibe like Sgt. Pepper. I especially like In My Life and Martin's sped-up Bach-style piano solo, which sounds like a harpsichord. Nowhere Man and Norwegian Wood are also very good and the fuzz bass from Think For Yourself is interesting. Revolver is a psychedelic masterpiece, especially Eleanor Rigby, I'm Only Sleeping and Tomorrow Never Knows, which were in this video. It's hard for me to choose a favorite song from Sgt. Pepper, but let it be Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. I associate this song with the paintings of Marc Chagall and Vitebsk, his hometown in Belarus, where I often visit. But I also love the harpsichord in Fixing a Hole, the carnival vibe in Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!, She's Leaving Home, A Day In The Life... And many other, I repeat that this is my favorite Beatles album and it is very solid. I have to say that the Beatles weren't the only such progressive and ambitious band in the studio at the time. It is common knowledge that the Beach Boys and their Pet Sounds influenced Sgt. Pepper, and Brian Wilson's talent as a producer was recognized by George Martin and Phil Spector. If Sgt. Pepper is my favorite album, then Strawberry Fields Forever is my favorite song and Magical Mystery Tour is my second favorite release. Penny Lane, The Fool In The Hill, Blue Jay Way are also some of the best Beatles songs for me and others are not far behind. Yellow Submarine is also good, but the best songs from this release are on other albums. The White Album isn't usually considered psychedelic album, but it also has the great Dear Prudence, the incredible Helter Skelter, the weird Revolution 9 and many other good songs. I also like Something, Beacause, Come Together and some other songs from Abbey Road, as well as Don't Le Me Now and Across The Universe, especially the alternative version. And from the early releases I like their classics Help, Yesterday and I Want To Hold Your Hand. All Things Must Pass, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine are my favorite Beatles solo albums. And I have to admit, I really like Giles Martin's 50th Anniversary remixes and the Love album. I'm not a Beatles fan, but I respect their studio work and contributions to the art of sound recording.

I recently heard Electric Circus by Common for the first time. And I was reminded of this neo-soul/hip-hop version of Sgt. Pepper. It also has a bit of a psychedelic vibe, but it takes that vibe from Jimi Hendrix as well as from the psychedelic soul/funk of Prince, Stevie Wonder, Sly Stone and P-Funk more than the Beatles. I really like J Dilla and the Soulquarians work here. This is a very underrated album. So I thought talking about the Soulquarians production style would be interesting for a video. Thank you for the work. I want this channel to have a lot more views and subscribers.

By the way, I had a small student work, it was a long time ago and it was a demo of the soundtrack for a short cartoon in the style of the Yellow Sumbarine, which was not realized. As I now understand, this is a variation on the mellotron theme from the first seconds in the intro of Strawberry Fields Forever, but for some reason played on the harpsichord (of course vst), apparently I wanted to add a baroque vibe of Sgt. Pepper, I also used a string group, recorded guitars and other instruments, and in the second part I used heavy fuzz and many guitar tracks with different effects, playing variations on the same theme. Would anyone be interested in this on your community? If yes, then I can try to find it.

Non of it would have been possible without Les Paul’s sound on sound techniques. For me the Beatles were crap and still are, there were many bands that were better without the dumb hair cut.
