Totally missed the point / function of the compression ratchets

Release the ratchets to its highest point. Then you pack your bag to the hilt, close it, zip it up, THEN push down on the lid with 2 hands to compress the bag.
So you get double compression.
The 1st in the bag with the straps and zippered cover and on the outside.
The difference between this bag and typical EXPANDABLE bags is, when you expand a typical expandable, the depth of your bag increases, so it may not fit Airline guidelines for carry on. But the Briggs, compresses the extra stuffed bag to its original depth, thus not exceeding Airline carry on guidelines.

What he said plus the expandable option makes it easier to store when not in use.. Duh.
