Podcast is Called : ASN Humans Are Space Orcs , HFY and other stories
    --------------
This Story is Classified as HFY or Humanity Feck, Yea , but what does the Mean?
    -------------
HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.
    -------------
Taken from the FAQ of the r/HFY subreddit.
Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

It took me from the time it happened to the end of the story to figure out just why Another Virtue was so pissed. The chelvians fucked around, and they found out. Honestly the amount of restraint is enough to prove Virtue’s godly status outright.

I'd guess they were offered tech rivaling humans and given the missiles to shoot the ship down. I doubt they were actually going to get the tech but if you're told you'd get tech from thousands of years in the future, probably help from the empire giving it to you, and all you had to do was shoot some missiles at one ship. I don't think many would say no.

Its not unusual for the onion ninjas to visit while listening to awesome narrations provided by Agro of great stories. This one lit that small flame of wrath that lives inside all of us. That flame that says gods, demons, stars, the void itself wont stop the reckoning. As great as it is with the feel good and bitter sweet feelings these stories usually bring, this one reminded me of prolly the most important thing about us humans. There is a monster so terrible asleep inside that gods will weep when it wakes. Pity those who break its slumber. Virtue lives up to his name, and is more human for being able to reign in a modicum of restraint, and is a better human than I or many.

What are the Angenitors thinking? The Chelvians made a stupid gamble based on not understanding who they were betraying. For this they lost their Goddess. There will undoubtedly be further payments in blood extracted as the expect people involved are tracked down. Human mercy spared them as a species. But some government and/or business higher ups are going to pay a much higher price.
The Angenitors however would have a much better idea of who they were dealing with and while the Chelivans are spared the worst of humanities wrath, they will not be. We don't know much about the society other than both the humans and their allies are death optional species. Thus even 4 deaths was enough to inspire planet destroying rage. A to the complement of that whole ship I'm guessing vastly smaller than what we would think on a ship that size even with science fiction standards put in. Let's call it a couple hundred people and one top line multi use warship. That is certainly enough to enrage a society but not enough to cripple one. Even one as casualty avoidant as they would be.
The only way it makes sense is if it is part of massive numbers of strikes elsewhere. Of course since little is known about them other than they place value only on themselves, and they see all others as only tools to be used and discarded. That could just be their way of declaring war and a massive first strike is dishonerable in their thinking not that anyone deserved such honor be granted them but due to it would make themselves lesser in their own eyes. The zero care for others was certainly shown by their seemingly casual willingness to expose the Cheldian to instant xenocide with a slap dash plan that was not of any particular (apparent) importance.
Good story, really could use a follow up just to answer a few questions. It's a credit to the story when people are interested enough to try to put it all together. It promises of a full picture ahead a universe with it's own internally consistent rules. Much of the best sci fi takes human society and adds a few fantastical elements and then lets things fall where they may with those elements fitted in. A society of nigh immortals where humans and AI are not just friendly but simply don't see their differences as important even though on a fundamental level they are huge. This sounds like a fascinating society to visit. with or without the brewing war story. The war story it seems is almost just the backdrop to watch this wonderful little universe unfold. Excellent writing.

May I suggest listening to the start of the story again. From my point of view the Agenitors luring of the Chelivans into attacking humanity was enough to send them to war.
The destruction of the moon was not due to humanity’s loss of four humans. It was destroyed because they killed one, Virtue’s favorite, Neha.

Could you turn UP the volume or avoid reducing volume... mmmm Like a sine wave- you speak very well but the cadence has point in which the volume of your speech drops into the range of the audio emission of the ROARING Diesel engine which cancels OUT anything said.
DO apologize, as a Truck Driver my life is what it is and the engine dialed up to full POWER ROAR with a 18 speed transmission is LOUD.

Using the plural pronoun for a singular AI, "...as _a_ Caretaker AI, closer to _a_ god than a calculator, _they_ had options" is unnecessarily clumsy. Perhaps the author is suggesting the AI is both one and many. I can see the argument. I don't buy it since the story doesn't use that as a critical technique to further the storyline. The result is that the spoken story and the text scroll are not facilitating a sense of an AI that is one and many simultaneously. It's clunky writing. This is a *good story*. Pronoun confusion makes it less enjoyable IMV.

    TL;DR
Playing around with breaking conventional grammar rules for the purpose of the story is great. I mean that. _Flowers_ _for_ _Algernon_ is an excellent example of doing just that throughout the entire story. It makes the story, in fact.
Throughout the story the AI is referred to by "biologicals" in the singular. The AI itself refers to itself (when we're inside its mind) as a single individual. Yes, the AI is carrying on many conversations about all sorts of topics simultaneously and doing many other things as well, yet that does not make this AI a "them." Again, if the story centered on the one-as-many notion, I could see it. It doesn't.
Please note, this story comes right out of the gate Using the plural pronoun for a singular AI, "...as _a_ Caretaker AI, closer to _a_ god than a calculator, _they_ had options." That's clunky y'all. It is unnecessarily clumsy. OK, maybe IATA and there's a critical storyline angle to this tale that explores the singular/plural notion within one artificial being. Awright, I'll keep an eye out for it. Well, that was not the case. These pronoun gymnastics appear repeatedly as the reader's POV is moved from inside the mind of the AI, to the words of a conversation it has with Neha, then inside Neha's mind and back to the AI's internal POV. Each time the AI *self describes* as a singular individual. Neha also thinks of and refers to the AI in the singular. Perhaps the author is suggesting the AI is both one and many. I can see that argument. I don't buy it since the story doesn't use that as a critical technique to further the storyline. The result is that the spoken story and the text scroll are not facilitating a sense of an AI that is one and many simultaneously and that duality is a critical element to the story. Rather, it's clunky writing (to my eyes and ears).
A writing convention departing from the closed loop of grammar rules need not make the story harder to listen to or harder to read _if_ a critical story element served by doing so. Put another way, a poor writing choice without the point of the story being served is, well, a poor choice. This author can write, yet chooses this whack-a-mole pronoun business on purpose and IMO does so without it being a necessary part of storytelling.
A non-writing example of unnecessarily vague terms...
The phrase "Operation Just Cause" was used IRL as the name of a US military mission into Panama and to arrest Manuel Noriega decades ago. Uh.. does that phrase mean "our cause is just" --OR-- does it mean "operation seemed like a good idea at the time?" The choice of words there is unnecessarily vague. Hell, call the mission "Operation Get Noriega." Sounds less like a focus group outcome and is more descriptive while also being bluntly accurate. Less panache, maybe, but not confusing.
In this story "Calling Upon Sentiment," if there was a unique storyline point being made, the reader/listener can shift around it.
    IF.
After a couple of minutes with this story, It's the square peg/round hole mismatch -- again, without a critical story point being made by that choice. And made over and over and over, like watching a kid playing whack-a-mole at a county fair, missing each time.
I'm not commenting on the contemporary US foofooraw about pronouns; I'm commenting on readability and listen-ability of a science fiction story. I considered that this might be me. So I watched the text scroll while listening to the VO. Got the square peg/round hole sense. Tried it two other ways -- I muted the audio and just read the text, then looked away from the text scroll and just listened to the VO. Square peg round hole. It inhibits understanding. Communication, I thought, is about successfully transferring ideas & thoughts from one to another (or to a group). Anything that makes that transfer less smooth, less organic is just throwing sand in the gears. It'll work if the story cannot work without doing that. This story would work very well without doing that.
