It was SO refreshing to see a photographer using reflectors by themselves, without an assistant! That's my biggest thing....I don't have the money to pay for an assistant at this time.
The reflector with a handle is a great option and Hope uses it to great effect here. I would also challenge you to consider off camera flash. If you throw a Godox Ad200 on a cheap light stand with a shoot through umbrella, you will get even bolder, sharp, and dramatic photos PLUS you don't have anything in your hands but your camera.
This is why i feel men dont have a chance with certain genre because i could never be this chipper but i know it makes the client feel so happy... im so mono toned.
I spent the first 3 years of my photography career only using a 50mm. It's such a great lens to gain skill with. At this point, my primary portrait lens for an individual subject is the RF 100 mm macro. It results in STUNNINGLY sharp subjects with creamy backgrounds. However, I've also been experimenting shooting at f3.5 and 4.0. It gets the face 100% tack sharp. The background still blurs a little, but with modern editing software you can boost that digitally and no one knows. I like knowing my subject is super sharp, and then I can enhance background blur in one button click.
It’s SOOO hard to find somebody who actually explains and helps and you nailed it with this video. Thank you very much. Took a lot of weight off my shoulders as I have my first senior picture shoot next week
I really enjoyed watching this video. Refreshing to listen and learn. Instead of hearing only about certain camera brands. Instead of teaching. Thank you so much. First time watching. I will be watching more and supporting .
Amazing! Love how you explain things in a way that is so easy to understand and loved watching you in action. I took notes of the prompts you gave the senior! So useful! Thanks, Hope!
Great tips and nice images. Also be aware of your backgrounds. Try to avoid poles/trees/etc from appearing like they are sticking out of your subject’s heads
This video is so helpful, thank you! It definitely eased my nerves since I am shooting my first senior pics this weekend. The weather in my area will be partly cloudy. Do you recommend a reflector even when it's cloudy?
This was super helpful!!! Thank you! I had another UA-camr recommend you as who they learn from. I'm so excited to have found you! I'm doing a session tomorrow!
Hey, what size triangle reflector do you use? I see there is a 31” and a 39”. I want it to be big enough and easy to handle but not too big. The one you have in this video seemed perfect. Thanks!! (By the way, I love your work!!!)
Hope do you shoot in Manual Mode on your camera dial or A mode, also do you use ND Filters when outdoors, and i have been doing videography for like a year thats my forta, but someone recently asked me to do their senior portraits, never done senior work but have taken a few pics here and there, how do you deliver their Portraits to them today via thumbdrive or how, and what megapixel is you camera your using today, Great video by the way, definetley gives the Newbie like me an in sight on whether i'm qualified to even shoot senior potraits, its a special time for these seniors. Thanks Hope
So pretty! How is her face totally in focus when you are so close at 2.2? Where are you putting your focal point? I want to get a prime lens and shoot like you do, but it seems like when I get close to a client, their entire face isn't in focus even at 3.2!
How about printing? My issue is, I don’t have a clue as to how or where to go, to give portrait packages. I usually just do the photos and then tell my clients they are responsible for printing…. Help, please??
Absolutely! I'm not sure if you are a Senior Scoop member or interested in jumping in, but I actually just dedicated an entire lesson to editing dark skin tones while still maintaining a light and bright style! You can join the membership and learn more here: hopetaylor.com/the-senior-scoop
I’ve shoot adult models, that was easy, shooting young girls, I’ve found it hard to explain to them how to pose. Seeing you work and direct how you want your subject to pose, I see that it’s no different.
Just curious, how much caffeine do you drink before a shoot? It's exhausting watching this ... And the high pitched voice... Seriously hurts my ears. No doubt some good information, but damn... I can't do it I'm sorry...

Soooo helpful to WATCH the session while you're sharing your camera settings! Helps me "connect the dots" better.
I am so happy to hear that! Thanks so much for watching!

Love that! 100mm is a great lens.

Your RAW images always look so good and properly exposed, what metering mode do you use?

Hi Brie! I'm so glad you tuned in - you are so welcome! Yes, I still use a reflector for any close-up portraits even when it's cloudy.
@@HopeTaylor Thank you very much! I’ll definitely be purchasing one then 😊
The RF 28-70 F2 is the best most versatile prime zoom lens lol. I love mine
you can't call a lens both a prime and zoom together :P
@@happydaes57 then you don’t know the reputation of the lens.
This was extremely helpful thank you so much

Mirrorless zoom lenses are sharper than dslr zoom, my fav is 28-75 2.8
You have beatiful places to shoot. I live in South Texas
I’ll get on the senior scoop on the fall!
Woohoo! Can't wait to have you, Caroline!
50mm prime and 24-70 Gmaster on Sony A7Sii. Also using A5000 APS-C (my sniper camera) 😂.
Nailed it!!! 🥳🥳🥳
Also, the APS-C, micro 4/3rds focuses way faster.
I want to buy a 50mm prime lense. Which do you recommend? I have a Sony 7aiii

I am manually selecting the focal point on the eye closest to the camera!
What's the exact lens that you are using for this photoshoot?? I am thinking of getting a different lens~
I swapped between the Canon 50mm 1.2 and 85mm 1.2 for this shoot :) Thanks for watching!
With grad portraits do you like to use CPLs ?
I personally don't, but it's not a bad idea!
How about printing? My issue is, I don’t have a clue as to how or where to go, to give portrait packages. I usually just do the photos and then tell my clients they are responsible for printing…. Help, please??
My grandson has dark skin. Is there anything you can recommend as far as tips?

ever since I worked with lights, i can't do natural sessions anymore. I am too afraid. LOL
That is so funny, I'm the total opposite! But I'm all about leaning into your own personal style and embracing it :)
Shoot, need to find somebody who can chat up the client like that and posing at the same time, I would pay good money to an assistant like that.
What is the style called of having an over exposed look on photos? And why is it so common to see this style nowadays? Thanks
Light and Airy and I hate it. Very popular with later Millennials and GenZ

JESUS IS THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE. AMEN.✝️🙏👍😇
Amen 😂
I subscribed.
Yay! Thanks so much!!!
35/85 Gang!
Also great choices!

No caffeine, just genuine joy and excitement for my clients - and they love it! Setting the tone for the energy at your sessions changes everything!
