  • Issue:
    - I've taken my Shimano reel apart and back together, now the anti-reverse doesn't work.
    Diagnosis:
    a. The clutch has been put back together incorrectly
    b. The pinion bearing is upside down
    c. The clutch has been put back together incorrectly AND the pinion bearing is upside down (see my other video)
    Solution:
    - Clutch: Take apart the clutch (see my video about reel deconstruction), make sure the metal plate and plastic housing for the rod bearings are installed as they should be. When installed correctly, the metal plate and plastic housing will move together when the anti-reverse switch is on, and will engage the anti-reverse.
    - Ball bearing: Make sure that the ball bearing which the clutch slides onto (its sitting on the pinion) is right side up. This is a very common and easily overlooked mistake. This bearing often falls off during deconstruction and gets put back on backwards, causing the reel to stop anti reverse
