Oh man, I miss this place. I was a little kid in the late 80's and have vague memories of the mall being a lively, bustling place. In the 90's it became a place friends and family would hang out at, even if we did nothing. There were 3 different movie theaters around it, one in the same parking lot, one to the west and one to the north (which is fortunately still there) Still have memories of the movies I went to see with friends and family there. I became friends with those at Night Flight Comics, Gamestop and was able to get a job at EB Games. Sadly we moved locations when the company couldn't get a 3 year lease from the mall (they only offered us one). It was very evident it wouldn't last long at that time anyway, but we held out hope. The area feels empty without the mall there now.
Brings back a lot of great memories. I grew up in the late 70's and Early 80's in the Millcreek area a couple miles away from the mall. My grandma and mom both worked in ZCMI for many years. Used to hang out with friends at the mall after school. Dee's restaurant across the street was popular also. ZCMI always seemed to be a better store than those that followed.
I always liked the unique layout of this mall. From the 2nd floor, that only went down one side of the mall to the quirky basement level that was only big enough to house a few retailers.
Gale Hammond open the first Hammond Toy store in 1954 on state street and in 1962 opened a store in the cottonwood mall. Hammond toys was one of the first stores to open in the mall. Over the years we moved around to different locations within the mall but we never moved out. Hammond toys was the last original mall tenant when the mall closed in 2008 to be rebuilt. We even outlasted the mall as it was sold 3 times while we were there.
There used to be a little electric bus that would take shoppers from one side of the mall to the other. The capacity was about 10 people 5 on each side. It had one bench seat on each side.
@@EricCProductions76 thank you! That Utah Vlog Squad footage you, that was my friend. Him and I put that video together. The footage I contributed was from 2016, before the store closed and his (the footage you used) was shortly after it closed. Shared the link with him and he was flattered. Lol.

thank you for sharing that
I remember all that good stuff The orange Julius That was sure good
I used to go to this mall when we first moved from California. It was the 90’s but everyone was still in 80’s clothes and we got a kick out of that.
I used to go there all the time in the 70s when our family lived in Holladay and I went to Meadowmoor
It was in an odd location, as opposed to Fashion Place Mall being right off the I-215 Belt Route and State Street.
Came here because I'm doing some research on this mall because I plan on doing a video here too.
awesome good luck
