    Takeaways from this video:
    1. Listen to your body.
    2. Neglecting sleep to be productive is one of the least productive things you can do.
    3. To wake up early, you need a full night's sleep.
    4. Marriage is taking its toll on Natalies looks (she even grew a beard)!

  • @c.w.5688
    @c.w.5688 Рік тому +57

    Well, of course waking up without an alarm is great if you don't have to be at work at a specific time... I'm a teacher and I have to be at school very early, so there's no chance of not using one, simply because (and I tested that during term breaks) I always sleep until 8 or 9 (and then the first lessons would have started already) if I let my body decide - no matter when I go to bed! It's like my body say "nah, girl, that's my time, I'm not ready to get up any earlier". My compromise was buying an alarm clock that wakes you up with light instead of sound! Much more peaceful, I highly recommend it :)

    • @shrishtiraval
      @shrishtiraval Рік тому +1

      Agreed! And that's exactly what I thought when I first watched this video. I rewatched it again right now and I realised that the reason he can wake up around 6:30am or 7am without an alarm clock too is because he has been a morning person/early riser/doing the same since the last decade (he said it himself in the video). Our body clocks play a huge part in this.

    • @celticlass8573

    I try my best to not set my alarm on the weekends but during the week, despite being a morning person, I wouldn’t get up in time to get the things accomplished pre-work that I want to do. This video is great as always Matt but as a 7-4 Monday to Friday employee it isn't super practical! For my 9-5ers, parents, pet owners, etc, if you try no alarms on your off days (if you get those) but end up oversleeping that's from a BAD SLEEP AVERAGE! Your body is trying to make up for lost time (and who can blame it!) If you have a poor and inconsistent sleep schedule (5 hrs one day, 2 the next day, 10 the next) you are not going to wake up feeling great with or without the alarm. The consistent hours every night create higher quality sleep and a more pleasant wake up, not the other way around!

    Best thing you can do to prevent laying in bed vegetating for an hour after waking up is to move your phone away from the bed. I put mine on a charger across the room. Go back to a traditional alarm, or use a smart device such as an Echo to run your alarm schedule.
    Also, don't change your sleep habits (much) on the weekend; It makes Monday that much more difficult.

If i may suggest a tip, what’s far less annoying than an alarm is the way my parents used to wake up in time, i.e. by setting a clock radio (station). At least you wake up with the sound of music and/or voice(s).

    You portrayed Nat's eyes to a T. Perfect. :) For the last decade or more I've been using an app called Sleep Cycle to monitor my sleep and wake me up gently with a quiet bit of music that VERY gradually increases in volume. If I don't need to be up at a certain time I disable the alarm function and wake up naturally, so the app just becomes a monitor. I find it works for me. One thing to note is that lying in bed in the mornings actually becomes difficult to do when you get older because your body starts to develop little aches and pains that prevent you from lying still for that long. Enjoy your nine hours in bed while you still can, because it's all downhill from here!

    Always done this. Naturally waking up is so superior, yes I need to go to bed an hour early than others but it’s worth it

    This video was so funny, yhank you Matt! Love Natalie and hope she's feeling better now 💛
    This video also comes the morning after a rough night with my cats. I'm a light sleeper too, having cats meowing for cuddles at 3 am or a big, heavy cat resting on your legs, well, not so comfortable 😴

    I haven't been using an alarm since I graduated uni. I guess it's more doable as a freelancer and not having a set amount of time to start, but I have always started working at 8AM just to build a habit. My body naturally wakes up at around 6 AM everyday and it's been great for me. I don't feel like I lack sleep. But even though at times I couldn't sleep at night, I still wake up at 6 LOL.

    I mostly wake up at 6 (before my alarm) I use them as a reminder how much time I have left, or as a safety thing so i dont sleep throught school.

    5:01 "F*ckin'a right"! This has always been a dream of mine, living in a sunny country where the sunrise wakes me up early every morning. Interesting video, thanks!

    Fab video, as always, Matt. I avoid setting the alarm too, and find we all eventually find our internal body clock, which is much better. Love the new Nat, though this one does need a shave - nawr!! 🧔‍♀

    My brain wakes me up every morning at 5am. It’s so nice to not need alarm clock!

    I set my alarms late and usually wake up an hour before it goes off but on those occasional days I do sleep in I appreciate the extra hour and I appreciate the alarm making sure I'm not late for my day plans.
