Pretty awesome! Wife and I have 2 rai of Durian about the same age as yours and yours are much larger. We are looking at possible fruiting next season as well. Nice to see a fellow American Durian farmer!
Thanks for the update video Terry. I'm excited to grow some Monthong in Buriram. I think we're starting with just 30-50 trees on our land in 2026. We may plant on more land in the future. Looks like a great early retirement plan. Cheers from Austin, TX!
definately interested in how that goes as i have a partner in Surin and would like to grow some durian but not sure if its possible in this region best of luck
Thanks for update Terry wow your trees are massive for their age!!! I’m not sure I understand what you are saying about the musang king trees? They looked just as big and healthy as your monthong trees ?
They look good now but when the rain stops and it gets dry it's really hard on them . I do understand what you mean they do look great right now . In may they won't look so good and I'll make sure to make a vid during that time so people can see the difference in the dry season 👍
@TMDurianfarmer oh good morning Terry. i am in Chaiyaphum. The land here is very sandy, great for rice, corn and cane. i am sure this is the key reason they don't grow, that and my nutrient mix. I've noticed when i buy the trees their leaves are dark green, but overtime in the ground the leaves get lighter in colour. very impressed with your farm. nice job. ❤️
One advice. It looks nice letting them grow as tall as they like but it's much better to top them and encourage horizontal branches to grow (even if it means tying them down with ropes and weights) It's much easier to harvest and they produce way more than way anyway. As a bonus, they are much sturdier and even if a branch snaps it's not a big deal
Hi Terry, hard work’s paying off, beautiful healthy looking trees. I’m in the process of organising my durian farm and ticking the boxes and one question comes to mind, Will there be an issue with high wind for 2 to 3 months of the year? No gail focre or destructive wind that will cause up rooting or broken branches but just worry when flowering. Will it disrupt pollination and fruit yield? What are your thoughts and experience?
Thank you Terry, I suppose condition will never be 100%, We just have to deal with issues as we ancounter. Looking forward to my trip next month to Thailand. Will you be available towards the end of November or take visitors to your farm Terry?
Very impressive. You must have the magic touch! We planted our first 600 graftings just about the same time as you. Of those, we lost about 200 due to various reasons and I reckon we have some 250 really healthy ones but don't come anyway near to your size. Since we are in the mountains about 500km north of you I guess location and soil conditions play their part. I reckon we wont see any fruit for another couple of years at least. Am I right in saying allow only 5 fruit per tree first time round?
Definitely not easy growing durian . We have had our fair share of issues also. Location and soil conditions do play a big part in the growth of the trees. As for the number of fruit a rule of thumb is 5 fruits per tree for 4 year old trees but it really comes down to the health of the tree.
@@Tyler-gd7yw this will be the first year I will allow my trees to flower. To prevent flowering too young you must stay with a high nitrate low p and k . To start flowering we will apply a low nitrate high p and k 8 24 24 . We will only allow the most mature trees bare fruit this year

@@TMDurianfarmer sounds fair enough! Recent I went to a durian seminar and the presenter said there was no production benefit to double planting as the trees shade each other out
@@ParkPedal if one dies you still have the other .that is a benefit to production . Durian trees don't produce every year if one does not the other most likely will that's another benefit . When trees start producing a young tree can only have 5 fruit max I have two so I get 10 benefits . I am producing for the first time this year follow my post and I will be sharing the results of planting two trees. We will find out soon enough
@@TMDurianfarmer good comments. I also asked him about fruiting every year. He said durian should be fruiting every year and if they aren't then the trees are not being managed correctly. Either over or under fertilized, plus allowing the tree to bear too many fruits the previous year
@@ParkPedal I agree but in reality they all don't . In practice from my own experience including all the durian farmers I know we get around 80 to 90 percent . Pest and diseases need to be taken in count for not fruiting .
Durian trees start to produce fruit the age of 4 to 8 years old depending on variety and growing conditions . In some cases trees have been known to produce as young and 2 to 3 years old but is not recommended
@@TMDurianfarmer what do you you mean by recommended? Are you triggering the trees to fruit? Or if they fruit too young you know I off the flowers or fruit?
