@wmtogear I like the SLR better anyhow. Plenty of power for the streets, and it doesn't scream "look at me, I have money" when you see it in traffic. It's much more practical for the streets too, the Bugatti is a tank, and gets about the same fuel mileage.
Hey, I'm glad to see that the Veyron actually works and pulls just like 10001 HP should. It could be like one of these Super Tuner cars that has it's brakes explode or a massive turbo malfunction if you dare take it outta the hauler.
I wanna see the bugatti vs a 1000 HP mustang or a muscle car, one that somebody worked his life making to beat everything else in a drag race. Would be a good race.
@fmsdaman1 Yes, but once you modify the car to produce a lot more power, things are more likely to blow up and disintegrate. There are so many videos on UA-cam of modified sports cars that blow their transmissions due to an excessive amount of stress on the car's components. They Veyron was made to reliably produce 1000 bhp. To get the SLR to produce 400 bhp more, you'd have to seriously modify it, which could make it more prone to fall apart or explode (in layman's terms).
To me Bugatti says - "I've never driven on a race track, I have no class or taste, I have no problem blowing money on a French build Volkswagen with a Italian badge bolted on and I own a runway to hit 400kph oh and whats a corner?" I'd have more respect for someone who owned a GT3
Two reasons: 1) That 1st run fishtail on the McLaren is the car not handling the power. The Veyron is built it. It was over when it started. 2) It looked like the McLaren's shifting isn't smooth at all. You can see the driver's reaction to it - steering left and right to keep it straight, then leaning forward then back. It didn't have a chance.
In about 35 years, the Veyron is gonna look cool sitting in a museum somewhere. With a plaque beside it which reads "This is the Bugatti Veyron, one of the fastest production cars of all time. Of course, that was back in the days before the world ran out of gasoline." Better enjoy them now, fellas... because the age of internal combustion engines is rapidly coming to a close.
Bugatti is the best piece of car engineering whatsoever. It's not just 1000 bhp but all of it's components working perfect. and it's not falling into pieces at 300km/h it's stable and solid while doing 425km/h. it's in the league of it's own
@to500mo thats only some of them, and as far as production car goes, that can be purchased for the road- theres the Corvette, Ford GT/40/90, Panoz Esperante, Shelby Cobra/Coupe, Dodge Viper, saleen s7 and s5s, Vector series cars, Splinter, Mosler, Devon GTX, Ronn Scorpion, FortuneSport Rt.S, SSC Ultimate Aero 1 and 2, Trans star Dagger GT, Hennessey Venom GT along with more i cant find now.
@7steven the thing is that a bug could probably hold its own on a track with an 458 italia and definitely with an f430 which was the italia's equivalent at the time when the bug was first built. the 4wd and the torque would definitely be a +, the massive 2 tonne kerb weight a -
@drizzetsrevenge Torque also plays into equation which can negate HP/weight ratio advantage. Something majority of posters keep forgetting and nYcon2006 kindly pointed out.
@danieltus true. but its not the fact that it does 407 kph.. its how it gets there.. the bug is as easy to drive slowly as a normal car (as long as you mind the speed bumps and even then you can jack the ride up a little) while the f1 is a pure drivers car that will chew your head right off if you dont show it the proper respect. it doesnt even have abs let alone traction ctrl (which wouldnt be that bad of an idea in retrospect, given the massive torque that 6.1 v12 bmw power plant produces)
@RedSkeletonGhost it is McLaren SLR. Mercedes teamed up with McLaren to build this car and "make" goes before "model" in a car name. The SLR was a combo of 2 makes; Mercedes and McLaren hence the name; Mercedes McLaren SLR
I feel this is comepletely in accurate in terms of cars actual performanc...the SLR driver had no idea what he was doing. Of course the bugatti has a more powerful engine, but ultimately the slr would win in a race due to a ton of other factors. Both sick cars, but id rather have an slr.
@proximer217 newsflash... it's the torque that counts on accellaration runs especially when they're from a rolling start... but you got one thing right... the bug own the little slr. not surprising really considering it's a v16 quad turbo, the turbos not being very large and not taking a long time to spool up. a nice touch would be if they were VG's. virtually no lag at all... on the other hand the slr's supercharger needs 100hp just to spin...
@TKLica nah you can tell it has paddle shifters cuz the drive is hitting the rev limiter. there are little shifters on the side of the steering wheel like in a normal SL.
@admx94 Exactly. But that distance from the solo is also not safe at high speed. Unless you are on a pro track. If not could be dangerous some irregularity on the ground.
It's all in the gears. Because bugatti has one of the kind while it's on the 1st gear the 2nd gear is all ready to go. So it doesn't really need to slow down to change gears.
When it comes to what you get for the money... I'd rather have the SLR. Plus, the SLR is a bad ass, luxurious, very fast piece of machinery. As is the Veyron. But again, for the price, the SLR takes it in all categories.
True, it has some reliability issue. The ariel atom can beat the veyron on a track. Its got no comforts and no luxuries but its very fast. Well, not as fast as an F1 but still it can beat the veyron. What car would you suggest that can beat the supersport veyron?
@Refort610 I guess it can depend on how quickly you step on the accelerator. But the SLR has paddle shifters so he could have taken it into his own hands if he wanted to go manual.
It still is absolutely astonishing what Volkswagen's engineers have accomplished in building the "standard" Veyron. But behold the magnificence of the new Bugatti Veyron Super Sport which is limited (limited!) to 415 kph, but is capable of doing 431 kph! A great car if you are in a hurry...
@NemanjaS1992 @NemanjaS1992 The SLR doesn't have a V12 or a 6.5l for that matter. The basic SLR has a supercharged 5.5.l V8 pushing about 626hp. The 722 model produces 650hp from the same engine(minor tweaks).
Totally agreed, on a track there's no way that the veyron survives against an F1 car. F1 is god among cars. Its F1 which sets the pace, others just follow. But F1 is not a road legal car. However, there is a version of a road legal F1 car. It is almost as fast an F1 car. I think its called the caparo T1.
its absolutely no use nothing can take a veyron in a longer drag race those are the facts :) i dont really like the car but its an engeeniring masterpiece
I always find these kind of things bitter sweet to watch. For the vast majority of us these cars are completely unaffordable. For a fraction of the price you can put a raced up big block chevvy with two giant turbos in a corvette or charger and wipe the floor with a Veyron or Mclaren. Okay the quality isn't there but the price is affordable.
The Veyron.....I'll bet something that complex would spend more time in the shop than on the road......and cost a breathtaking amount of money just to keep it running.
@chadr76 Well, the build quality of our 2003 E500 Sport is really good, and doesn't feel cheap at all. Even though it's a Daimler Chrysler. But the build of the Mercs then still weren't the best, but like what chadr76 said, Chrysler doesn't own Mercedes-Benz anymore, so their quality is going back up again like it was way back.
@Roxaspwns360 fact is that the best way to get a decent accelleration run out of an automatic is to leave it to to its stuff... what happened was the wheels spun at the top of the rev range 'cus the tires couldn't handle the torque and before the traction ctrl kicked in and the auto box shifted the revs hit the barrier
@heartboy86 I have seen that video. Clearly a sign that the Stig took it easy. Lets not forget Veyron is a GT that happens to compete with specialized track cars. Not other nearly two tons ever done as well considering the combination of performance and comfort Veyron has. So yes, Veyron does corner as people like Gordon Murray and "Mr Bean" found out.
@DutchGamiez The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is an Anglo-German grand tourer car jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and MCLAREN AUTOMOTIVE, built in Portsmouth and the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey, England and sold from 2003 to 2009.
@Jamerio3D ok look... the veyron was the first road legal car to break the 400kmh limit... not only that... but a veyron is also comfortable, has style and in the end: it is an engineering masterpiece. the company made the car because they wanted to show what they can do, they wanted to make something special. of course anyone can make a car that is faster, and better a year later... but nobody can take away the fact that the eyron was FIRST... thats what makes it special...
@mindfield666 the fact that porsche and lambourghini are also in the VAG family is apparently not in any consequece... VW and all of its sub-brands has developed into the worlds largest car manufacturing konglomerate for a reason
@RedSkeletonGhost lol it was never $610,000. MSRP full options was $515,000. They are down to the mid $300,000-$400,000. Even the roadsters were never more than $550,000. maybe you are thinking of SLR 722
why are americans so obsessed with straight line squirting. the better car comes from all round ability. put a McLaren Mercedes, bugatti veyron and the beautiful McLaren sports car on a track. give them 10 laps and see who finishes at the top of the pile. without a doubt it wont be the veyron.
@newman8r45 if you buy one it doesnt say mclaren anywhere. there are lots of cars which use other engiens, that doesnt mean its got to put the engine name on the car.
man, i bet on the road the SLR is a pleasure and a rush to drive...but next to the veyron....you are thinking "WHOO im going FAST" then just 2 seconds later its all "Awwh"
Even though the SLR has a supercharger, the Bugatti takes off & leaves it. Then again, the Bugatti does have 375 extra h/p, AWD & 4 turbos. I know the Bugatti is expensive, but Mercedes wants over 400 grand for their car, which is really high comparing the h/p output to other cars they build.
i would like to see a mile drag of a veyron vs a hennessey ford gt 1000. in a recent mile drag, the gt walked all over a slr. the veyron would probably win, but it would be close.
@bkpaal well I've just watched a very cool documentry on the Veryon and to give you an idear of running costs to have a set of four tyres changed over it costs £10,000 or about $13,000 (i think converted) and you cant just pop down to your local MOT centre and asking the greace monkey for a set of four. They are made only for the veyron to handle 200mph so its special compound rubber that is only made in the veyron factory
@TorbenTheMan and made in Molscheim, France, where Bugatti was created. So it's quite european in fact^^ And not at its best concerning the SLR, it just has a decent gearbox, no real handling...
@to500mo theyre American cars that can turn. The SSC out-handled the Enzo on a Road & Track slalom course so there you go. You can get any car to turn good. depends on what your going for and how much money you/r have/willing to spend. Must suck to live in Cali with all kinds of restrictions I live in texas and dont have even a 1/4 of the restrictions yall have
Regardless to how fast the Bugattis are, that whistling sound of SLR is just breathtaking..
love this video on two incredible cars.
Yeah I agree. You still around man?
whats the name of the song played at the begining? i've always wanted to know.
@wmtogear I like the SLR better anyhow. Plenty of power for the streets, and it doesn't scream "look at me, I have money" when you see it in traffic. It's much more practical for the streets too, the Bugatti is a tank, and gets about the same fuel mileage.
Come on, this is not a fair race.Next video nasa x-43 vs bugatti veyron.
I think SLR is very strong for that power dont u think?
Holy Crap..i love mercedes but that damn BUgatti is a str8 up beast
This is one of firsts youtube videos i saw about 11-12 years ago.
Hey, I'm glad to see that the Veyron actually works and pulls just like 10001 HP should. It could be like one of these Super Tuner cars that has it's brakes explode or a massive turbo malfunction if you dare take it outta the hauler.
I'd like to see how both of them do on a track with low & high speed corners, see how they handle that power in the corners!
This was made before I was born lol. Crazy video tho!!!!
nice vid!!
I'd rather have the SLR + every major model Ferrari and Lamborghini have released in the last decade.
I wanna see the bugatti vs a 1000 HP mustang or a muscle car, one that somebody worked his life making to beat everything else in a drag race. Would be a good race.

I love the noise those 12 thirsty supercharged cylinders in the SLR make!
Oh the mighty B.Veyron was breaking sound barrier there!

I dont care if it lost....the supercharger whine from that SLR is just too damn sexy.

the music from the Fog 1980. as old as this video is, it's still hot.
If I had the money to buy one of these bad boys, I'd still rather build a DSM. :)
If not could be dangerous some irregularity on the ground.

it is just CRAZY how fast that car is!
Bugatti's a beast. Merch has no chances.
The best thing about Bugatti it's that it has superb handling too :)
Watch Bugatti Veyron National Geographic :)

that slr sounds EPIC

I want to see a Bugatti go against a Nascar, that would be a good duel.
Yeah, the Bugatti just wiped the floor with that very nice Benz.
"So what we have discovered is that the Bugatti Veyron, known to be the fastest car in the world, is fast than another type of car."

It's the main theme for the movie, "The Fog". John Carpenter directed the movie *and* composed and recorded the soundtrack.

In the first run the Mercedes driver hit the rev limiter like twic, meaning his gear changes were not good. Hi greatly improved during the second run.
@heartboy86

Yeah, Bugatti is cool. Well directed and cut
it was like the car vs. airplane.. :D
dont care buggati fast the merc sounds fuckin bad ass like a boss
Please do this with a SLR 722 S tuned with 888PS from FAB.
What's the title of the music?
@n3cr0f1l3 not really, slr's are fast, this just shows how much faster the Veyron is.
does that air brake really make a difference?
@TechThoughts how exactly would that affect an accellaration run?
@RedSkeletonGhost lol it was never $610,000. MSRP full options was $515,000. They are down to the mid $300,000-$400,000. Even the roadsters were never more than $550,000. maybe you are thinking of SLR 722
@briggs9187 its W16 engine,,, W16 is a sixteen cylinder piston in a W configuration

the name of the song, PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE????
anyone else notice that in the second run, initially the Veyron is in the far lane, but then from the dash view from the SLR its in the close lane?
@trostesteronkid55
Wrong, the new Bugatti Veyron Supersport clocked out at 269 mph. round off to 270.
@Gvolve Ahh thank you, must have been an awesome race im gonna look for that one..
man, i bet on the road the SLR is a pleasure and a rush to drive...but next to the veyron....you are thinking "WHOO im going FAST" then just 2 seconds later its all "Awwh"
Finally a video without the ''script'' hack
Even though the SLR has a supercharger, the Bugatti takes off & leaves it. Then again, the Bugatti does have 375 extra h/p, AWD & 4 turbos. I know the Bugatti is expensive, but Mercedes wants over 400 grand for their car, which is really high comparing the h/p output to other cars they build.
intro music please ???
i would like to see a mile drag of a veyron vs a hennessey ford gt 1000. in a recent mile drag, the gt walked all over a slr. the veyron would probably win, but it would be close.
@mahmahmonkey Or the Ultimate Aero? because it's faster. But I still like the Veyron more.
