Yeah many people see MikroTik as a wireless solution, if my channel or many other professionals have shown there is so much more that you can do or achieve with your devices. I personally love this little red RB5009 and I can see many practical uses for it especially for people wanting something that isn't too costly that will allow them to run stuff like VPN solutions to get into their network. The wifi is really just a plus for me and is something that will probably just get disabled or be used for management purposes. Great video guys :)

The L009 is nowhere near comparable to the RB5009..

      @TheNetworkBerg Рік тому +2

@@ON3RVH it looks like an RB5009, that is why I said it is a "little" RB5009, specwise the RB5009 is a very different router obviously, just watch the video where the block diagrams are compared :)

Big fan of you and your content .... BTW I believe you as my mentor and watching your videos make me get into the mikrotik eco system ..... BTW a lot of things I learnt from you ... And now I make videos on UA-cam related to mikrotik basic tutorials in my native language......

I'm always looking at the block diagrams and it is one huge benefit of using Mikrotik devices, that you can actually see exactly what you get for your money. It does not, however, prevent me from buying RB5009 for my home rack, where RB750r2 would do just fine 😀

Thank you, I really enjoyed this episode. One topic I would be interested in would be to hear about the RouterOS developpers perspectives. For example, how do they plan new features, how do they manage to support so many generations of material through ROS upgrades without setting everything on fire, etc.

I really appreciate the discussion about looking at the products like the L009 beyond the lens of a "Home router" and the many different ways they can be deployed. At the small telecom I work for, I always try to stock a variety of Mikrotik stuff, which lets us solve basically any networking problem that a customers comes to us with because of the different ways all the RouterOS equipment can be setup. Knowing the Mikrotik catalog by their block diagrams is key for using them as a networking multi-tool.
The L009 could be a nice device for outdoor WiFi and security projects, where you might have a small cabinet on poles with some PTP/PTMP radios and security cameras powered through PoE injectors. You could use the L009 as a switch and add RP-SMA extension cables for the WiFi antennas to mount them on the outside of a cabinet. The security equipment be on the untagged VLAN, and the WiFi could be set to use a tagged VLAN for separation.

Gentlemen, this has been an amazing video - both educational AND amusing! Please, keep it up! Maybe make a video about the more corporate grade devices, like the CCR? Perhaps some insights about how you make a decision when planning out the physical configuration of a new device - what form-factor, how many ports, what kind of ports (PoE in, PoE out, SFP or no SFP, etc.)? Do you attempt to max out the physical capabilities of the chips, or do you sometimes have to cripple some of the actual functionality of the platform for technical, or financial (or both) reasons? Also, how many times have you had to make some choice when designing a product and there has been more than one desicion that would seem to be viable, but only one of them must make it to market as a final product? Probably a little far-fetched, but some information and demonstration of the JTAG interfaces on the routerboards would also be welcomed by beginner and advanced techies. 😊 Or some hidden "easter eggs", "Did you know ..." style, for example: the hAP ac lite has a pair of IPX antenna connectors on the board, but they're not advertised in the product description and you wouldn't know about them, unless you disassembled the router's casing. But they're there - how can they be used, why put IPX-es on a home router with antennas already etched on the board, etc.?

you know, that Chateau on the ladder and that L009 on the table gave me an idea... Tape it with some white electrical tape and hide it somewhere in the screen.

Love the format! You are so cool.
But I would like an episode about naming thru the years.
I'm a little sad about that I haven't found MikroTik earlier. Love you products.
    Congrats to the 3rd place.
Greetings from the other side of the Baltic Sea with a shammy 6th place...

2011 user here, long ago I upgraded to 1100AHx2 and x4. Learning curve made me question why I asked to upgrade.
Still holding onto 2011, good backup devices small, portable, managable without going up the curve.
Janis do not ideas in Normy´s brain, the will become a reality in just a few days, we old people still need the cables.

    Another idea for episode:
Tell us about what interesting network setups are you running yourselves.
My crazy setup was with L2TP tunnels between my home, server room and parents homes and OSFP, so I don't have to type static routes every time a new site is added to "shadow" internet.

Hi i have a question, the power supply has 24v with 1.5a and i have 24v with 0.5a access point device, is that good enough additional power on poe port 8?

Love this podcast-ish format, and I think you are experienced enought to do it live. Ok you have to get used to live comments, but maybe every 10th Ep. or something like that could work.
I have a similar situation as Normunds. I have 6 cables to plug into my hap ac2.. so I've moved my AV receiver to wifi. So I'm thinking that maybe I need an 8 port ethernet router, possibly the L009 non-wifi version, and convert my hap ac2 to CAPsMAN AP only (currently it's doing the routing and all the other stuff)
How the L009 is compared to hap ac2 ?? Can it do the same things or maybe more, maybe less? Is it an upgrade? I'm a bit worried about the CPU, the rest is definitely upgrade.
    2x800 MHz vs 4x700 MHz
512 MB RAM vs 128 MB RAM
128 MB NAND vs 16 MB FLASH
    USB 3.0 vs USB 2.0

I may be old-fashioned but my gut is rumbling just thinking about using Wi-Fi to actually manage devices, meaning you don’t even need physical access.
