Great video. Brings back memories, especially west of Linz. I spent time in the early 1990s filming locations on the ‘Classic’ Westbahn (there was no high speed new line then of course). The locos and trains back then had so much more character, imho. 1040, 1041, 1042, 1045, 1145, 1010, 1110.5, 1044 and even a 1018. Those who know their ÖBB history will remember these wonderful machines….although a few 1044s are still around and visible in this fantastic cabride, as well as a row of 1042/1142/1044 at Vőcklabruck. Thanks for posting!

- A wonderful winter trip through Eastern Austria. Excellent video, very interesting and instructive descriptions of the train stations and branching routes. Modern trains and systems, the route is in the best condition. And our train is punctual to the minute along the entire route! The railway country of Austria at its most beautiful. Bravo and keep it up!
Finally the Westbahn to Salzburg! I had actually seen the line according to the historical route along the Danube in the Wachau. Very beautiful areas and very full of charm. I recommend the Benedictine abbeys of Melk and Lambach in the area. The railway landscape climbs when you reach the Salzkammergut, which is one of the most beautiful areas in Austria. Starting from the Danube plain, the new high-speed line is faster for commercial needs but loses the view of the landscape which between Vienna and Linz is surrounded by the bends of the Danube. Arriving in Linz is really cool. The city is industrial and technological and hosts the very interesting Lentos and Ars Electronica museums where science meets art. Finally a video where you can see the arrival at Salzburg Hauptbahnhof! Very good! At this rate, in 10 years we would have mapped all the railways in Germany, Austria and Central Europe!! Excellent!!!!!!!!!!
A beautiful winter route, so far I had the opportunity to see the Salzburg - Wels section live from the window of the train going to Rome and in not very nice weather. Thanks to this, now I could easily see the entire route from Vienna (which I plan to visit this year but I don't know yet whether by car or train) in better conditions. The timetable does not give the impression of a tired train, it accelerates slowly and quickly slows down, and you can see a lot of trains passing by, so at some point the rest of the section should have separate tracks for higher speeds.
Actually, there is a pair of higher-speed tracks for 250km/h and a pair of old Westbahn for 140/160 - sometimes they run together but often they diverge as higher-speed line takes tunnels and shortcuts. There are plans for separation beyond Wels to Salzburg (with completly new tunnel) and also a high-speed link from Wels directly towards Munchen to get Vienna-Munchen at 2,5 hours.
You folks do such a great job with this. I follow the video on one screen, and Google Maps on another, your naming the stations keeps me on track (pun intended) and makes it easier surviving tunnels and loop backs (i.e. Gotthard line). Thank you!!!
I am glad that you follow the channel and enjoy the journeys presented here. It is my pleasure to share them with you. It is a lot of work to do, but I love to travel and film those beautiful lines.

Deutsch: Ein Video Neusiedl am See - Pamhagen wäre super. 😊 Englisch: A video Neusiedl am See - Pamhagen would be great. :) Because then I could finish the route for Train Simulator.
Another excellent video on the Austrian line, which unfortunately I don't know. The view from the cab is much better than from the window. Compliments!. Just one piece of information, is it possible to watch videos of the Italian lines again, especially from SOUTHERN Italy? Regards, Sergio.
@adamw1944 The camera I am using is not very good in low-light conditions. I am testing another camera at the moment, but other properties are not so good...
thanks for this video! been waiting to see the Westbahn as it is right now, the last videos were taken when there were still construction works at Amstetten at Attnang-Puchheim in 2012... EDIT: might i ask what service was this? cus it stopped at Tullnerfeld, where i dont remember many trains using the new line stop at.
Sorry for an obvious question, I notice a rather melodic sound when tne train leaves the station. Is this the sound of the motor makes itself or a sound that the train makes when it departs?
@andrewclarke3622 It is the sound of the motor. I found this explanation: When switching from idle, a sound is generated in the three-phase motors due to the converters. The audible sound is the double clock frequency of the pulse inverters, which is raised step by step. As a result, you can hear a start-up sound.
@@andrewclarke3622 I met a guy from University of Vienna (UNIVIE) who knew some people who knew people who worked in Siemens on these locomotives - his story was that they couldn't avoid/hide the sound/noise from the traction converters but they could modulate it in a way to play a melody (so it does a do-re-mi). It is a beautiful and playful feature, that's what engineering should be about.
@ZvonimirZelenika Thank you for sharing this very nice story. I admire engineers and their work. Looking at the constructions along the lines, the locomotives, the signalling...sometimes it just feels that you all make impossible possible.
Excellent video! I have ridden this line many times over the last few years. One question is how you got the speed/distance travelled info whilst in the tunnels? Curious!
@JHunter49 I am glad that you liked it. Honestly, I do not know how this GPS data works. In some tunnels it is very inaccurate and in others it just works well.
@@RailRelaxationbut the times of timestamps in the video description are wrong: for example Tullnerfeld it's reported at 6.46 instead of 16.50 and so on on every other timestamps. The chapter instead are right.
I thought RailJets could do 240kph? And even where trackspeeds are supposedly 250kph, or 220kph, the train is often doing less than the permitted line speed on this journey. Does anyone know why?
Yes, but the locomotive has neither blue or red flashing lights nor police sirens, nor does it have priority over other trains... and only the locomotive driver sits in the driver's cab, not a police officer with a gun ... 😄
Is there a reason why they are only going 180 on most of the new track after St. Polten? Seems like a waste to not build new lines for such "low" speeds...
Save energy. In Austria we have two speed limits: the regular one (Vmax 230 km/h) and one for energy saving with lower speeds but you can reach the stations at time. There is a lot reserve time in the timetable.
Thank you! Have you considered posting a more... "ASMR" version of your videos, without all the extra information flashing up, just to enjoy the views? Sometimes I find all the flashing text at the bottom of the video is quite distracting.
@namespacetoosmall Thank you for your comment. Posting the videos and talking with the viewers and subscribers of the channel, I personally think that the extra information about the lines and the stations that we pass are important and enriching. I do spend a lot of my time searching for the information and editing the footages. I will formulate a question in the community tab to see what the majority of the public thinks about it and then think about it.
@@RailRelaxation Oh, no doubt, it is very interesting, but sometimes I like to relax and imagine I'm travelling through these beautiful places just to enjoy the views. :) I follow some other people who have two channels, so they post two versions of the same video, one with extras and one without; maybe that is an option, I don't know?
Please stop ruining the vid with all that yellow text constantly. Very annoying. We don't need all that information. Please. Sto it. Very very annoying, totally ruining the journey for us. STOOOPP. I watched just a little less than 4 minutes - I had to stop, knowing that this probably would continue throughout the vid. o stopped it. You receive a thumb down from me for that.
@MeBallerman Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate it. There are people who like the additional information and people that are annoyed with too much info displayed. I am trying to get a balance.
It is just right. This information helps to understand the railsystem and puts the ride into the proportion of the country. This is not a KI ride, this is a real ride in a real railsystem in a real country
- You can do it however you want: it's always bad for someone. The vast majority of RailRelaxation visitors love this additional information about the names of the stations and important sights and about the routes themselves. Most of them don't know the beautiful Austrian regions or don't know them well enough and want to know where the train is at any given time. It's a lot of work to create and display these inserts every time. That's why the inserts are staying and they will also be visible on all new routes.
Bin ein großer Fan deiner Seite/deiner Videos! Was denkst du über folgende Strecken?
- Salzburg - Innsbruck (Korridorstrecke)
- Milano - Torino (Alt & Neubaustrecke)
- Milano - Genova
- Genova - Ventimiglia
- Bologna - Bari (Adriatica)

Yes please! I'd love to see these routes
@totti83_10 I am glad that you like the channel and the journeys presented on it. Enjoy this very beautiful ride and thank you for your suggestions.

A video Neusiedl am See - Pamhagen would be great. :) Because then I could finish the route for Train Simulator.
@XxMikeZillaxX Thanks for the suggestion. Will check it out.

@ivanmiroshnikov3260 Great. Enjoy your journey.
Great.
@christianlanz1680 Thanks.
Even trains make classic music in Austria... 😂
@carddamom188 Love this...🙂
Another excellent video on the Austrian line, which unfortunately I don't know. The view from the cab is much better than from the window. Compliments!. Just one piece of information, is it possible to watch videos of the Italian lines again, especially from SOUTHERN Italy? Regards, Sergio.
v@domipa3972 Glad you enjoyed it. I miss Italy as well. I will go back there to film some more lines, just do not know when exactly.
👍👍❤❤👏👏
Nice video
@adamblunsdon7784 Thanks.
Thanks
@namespacetoosmall Thank you for your support.

That sound of locomotive when it starts to accelerate was very nice and entertaining to my ears. Is it only in ÖBB's locomotives?
bzmentertainment9381
No, it is a model of the locomotive, Taurus.
Taurus locos are equipped with very powerful headlights, so how come the tunnels in your video are so weakly illuminated?
@adamw1944 The camera I am using is not very good in low-light conditions. I am testing another camera at the moment, but other properties are not so good...
@@RailRelaxation Try Osmo Pocket 3 with 1" sensor.
@adamw1944 Thank you for the suggestion.
thanks for this video! been waiting to see the Westbahn as it is right now, the last videos were taken when there were still construction works at Amstetten at Attnang-Puchheim in 2012...
EDIT: might i ask what service was this? cus it stopped at Tullnerfeld, where i dont remember many trains using the new line stop at.
@CFRTrainSpotter It was the RJ640. I am glad that you liked it.
so its one of the railjet services that conducts more frequent stops. thanks!
@CFRTrainSpotter Probably.
Thank you. It sounded more like a stepped start up sound. New to the channel but love trains.
Nice video, as usual ;) Was this a single Railjet unit or two coupled together?
Wow, that tunnel is so dark! No lights at all?
@TwoThreeFour My camera is not very good at low light.
@@RailRelaxation it would've been awesome if your camera can switch to night vision in low light condition 🥰
@TwoThreeFour oh, yes, that would be perfect.
👍👍🚂🚂📸📸👌👌
@Castyk Thank you.
All timestamp in the description are wrong. Please, fix them.
@d1234as Because of lack of the space in the description I put only the stations in the timestamps of the description.
Railjets are limited to 230km/h.
@a320bus Danke. Thank you for your comment. I am glad that you like it. It is quite difficult for me to film inside of the cabin.
@Knackebrot Sometimes the speed can be inaccurate. The data is GPS based.

Muy buenos los videos... Pero serian mejor con musica de fondo...
@corautorepuestosventadeele6411 Gracias.
Jesus F Christ, look at the front, they even have police train in Austria.
Yes, but the locomotive has neither blue or red flashing lights nor police sirens, nor does it have priority over other trains... and only the locomotive driver sits in the driver's cab, not a police officer with a gun ... 😄

What is the name of this simulator?
@shubhapanda8668 It is not a simulator. It is a real train journey.
you should check your eyes

There are so many other channels that post "clean" footage. I think it's nice that we have another Don Coffey that post tidbits along the ride.
- I find the additional information in the inserts very interesting and important.
@domipa3972 Thank you for your comment. I am glad that you liked the video.

You can do it however you want: it's always bad for someone.
I love them and I have a folder about them
come take a ride! (at folder 4) :))

Warum “Polizei”-Lok?
@AlpsWatcher I do not know, really.
This is an honor and an advertisement for the excellent Austrian police. In addition to this ÖBB-1116.157, there was already a police locomotive (~1990) for the same reason, at that time an ÖBB-1046.008, which even had a blue light on the roof, like the real police vehicles!
