Looked at the comments before I watched and felt kind of crestfallen since I love Chris' stuff but watched and really enjoyed it! It's a one-man show, not a standup routine, but with Chris I guess you either love him or don't.
I saw him a few months ago, and its one of the best shows I've seen. Its really dark but really funny and heartwarming somehow. I'd strongly recommend it!
Raw, brave and funny! Performing just a single scene from a one-man play in the 'arena' where audiences are more accustomed to seeing/hearing a 'stand-up comedy' routine was taking a big risk. A scene isn't written with the kind of pacing and number of specific jokes with boffo 'punchlines' that lead to a BIG finale joke. It was guaranteed to not be 'understood' by today's average audiences who are more used to (and expecting to see?) a 'comedy club' style 'act' rather than the performance of a monologue/soliloquy/scene from a play. I think Mr. Gethard has some great material and he performs it engagingly and amusingly. I hope his Off-Broadway run is a successful one!
As majestic as the cascading waters of a drain pipe, MD 20/20 is bottled by the 20/20 wine company in Westfield, New York. This is a good place to start for the street wine rookie, but beware; this dog has a bite to back up its bark. Mad Dog Stands for Mogen David, and is affectionately called "Mad Dog 20/20". You'll find this beverage as often in a bum's nest as in the rock quarry where the high school kids sneak off to drink. This beverage is likely the most consumed by non-bums, but that doesn't stop any bums from drinking it! Our research indicates that Mad Dog 20/20 is the best of the bum wines at making you feel warm inside. Some test subjects report a slight numbing agent in Mad Dog 20/20, similar to the banana paste that the dentist puts in your mouth before injecting it with novocain. Anyone that can afford a dentist should steer clear of this disaster. Avaliable in various nauseating tropical flavors that coat your whole system like bathtub scum, but only the full "Red Grape Wine" flavor packs the 18% whallop. Liquor stores are starting to be infiltrated by a 13% variety of Mad Dog 20/20 Red Grape. There is also a new "Blue Raspberry" flavor with "BLING BLING". Even the lowest functioning of bums will know not to get swindled out of 5%.
Strawberry-Kiwi? Y'all had the best kind. Ya know, I had a friend who could completely down an entire Large MD 20/20, in one go. [sigh] Good times. R.I.P. KC...
One man shows need an overarching narrative and are expected to hit more emotional notes than just humor. Still, people that do them tend to also do standup, and it's still just standing on stage telling stories.
Zulthulu funny, this "failed stand up comedian" had his one man show on HBO, his own tv show just got picked up by trutv, he has a widely acclaimed podcast that he's doing a live tour of right now. Quite successful for a "failed comedian"

I am surprised he didn't mention is unique, wonderful podcast "Beautiful Stories From Anonymous People". One of my faves!
He's really good in Don't Think Twice.
Sandwich Night is rapidly approaching. Where do I go, Chris? WHERE DO I GO!?
I want to hear more of that
Lmao..That Mad Dog had him straight up LUNCHIN' out there!! 😅😅
Don't waste your time with the comments, it's filled with people making hacky "get hard" jokes and people with terrible taste in comedy.
papacap727 funny how they think the "get hard" jokes are original and new, when Chris has made jokes about his last name for years
Oh shit it's Hugh Jackman.
jon droppin the chopin
great clip. love chris's work and always happy to see him reach a bigger audience!
performing a scene from the show was a really good idea! now i wish i could see it!!
Wow, a 3 layered cliffhanger.
First time ever, I watch a comedian where I felt like crying. Then he mentioned his book and I was like "Ohhhhhh".

I read the thumbnail as "Chris Gethard preforms a scene from Career suicide"
I read your comment as "Chris Gethard performs a scene from Career suicide"

This is really funny!
how did the story end?!
Iirc he did come back to it much later in the show. It was excellent. This clip on its own doesn't really do the show justice.
Puking MD2020 is not good. The real Batman would know this.
If that is his comedy, then his show's name is on point.
But how did it end?!?!
the guys probably left and he passed out for a few hours and woke up shaking for a couple days
***** I meant the story! ;-)
Michael Berthelsen i think a great tag to end the story would be..
'now you probably feel like those sketchy guys sitting in my room felt'
Strawberry-Kiwi? Y'all had the best kind. Ya know, I had a friend who could completely down an entire Large MD 20/20, in one go. [sigh] Good times. R.I.P. KC...
loved that
Woody Allen biopic .. just sayin
This is a cool man 😑
THIS GUY IS SO FUNNY!!
Had to be f**king New jersey story !! Oh darn ..
Go watch it! Now! Please.
Poor guy, everyone reads his name as "Get Hard"
Gethard should have Colbert's job.
He's far more qualified.
Is this Xavier's school for the bad-ass, cause your principal's here: Jigda-jigda-Jackman.
What a brilliant surname.
Hang on a second... Chris Get Hard? Are you kidding me?!
Sounds like an episode of BoJack lol
You could save yourself the cost of a ticket and pretty much hear the exact same kinds of stories by going to your average AA meeting.
thought it was get hard
Lol
0:14 Chris, WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR PANTS? Looks like a pound of joy yearning for my attention. So cute, so funny, so sexy.
Don't be sad.
He is nice and funny but as a late show stand up and on this level I doubt he deserves it
Little bit of the grim Rick and Morty music at the interlude.
what is the difference between a one man show and stand up?
i find it odd to, maybe theres more than him talking (music or visuals or something haha)
One man shows need an overarching narrative and are expected to hit more emotional notes than just humor. Still, people that do them tend to also do standup, and it's still just standing on stage telling stories.
This guy should advertise his need for parental acceptance on that giant billboard of a forehead of his
Very funny man! Unfortunate last name, tho.
I feel like nobody has the heart to tell him this material is not that funny. Mild chuckles at best for me.
Pseudonayme 77 one man show, not stand up special
so the carpet on thefloor has no significance?
i didnt think it was funny at all
She understands life just fine. This wasnt remotely funny.
I regret wasting my time watching this
that was supposed to be a COMEDY?!??!?
Wtf happened to his hair?
Both these guys are so unfunny!!
Chris got soft.
Woody Allen v 2.0.
This is about as funny as a bowl of plain tomato soup. No salt.
Is his last name really get-hard?
geh-third. although i've been misreading it for years i guess.
had high expectations for this dude since he was funny in the office. but this was not funny.
This scene is not very funny.
I liked him better the first time around... when he was called Woody Allen
TheTRUTH You read my mind.
One-man shows. Failed stand up comedians with art and theatre degrees.
Don't forget the lamp and rug.
Zulthulu funny, this "failed stand up comedian" had his one man show on HBO, his own tv show just got picked up by trutv, he has a widely acclaimed podcast that he's doing a live tour of right now. Quite successful for a "failed comedian"
