Fables is the under-rated REM album and this is a great performance of a song from that record. REM was so tight live; it makes me wonder if they rehearsed for hours on end or were just that good. Funny note about the lyrics - Philomath is a little town near Athens that doesn't have a stop light. There's absolutely no reason for anyone to pass through it unless you know someone there.
First saw them play this live in 85. Pacific Amphitheatre in California. Outdoors in the rain. Saw them 9 more times before and after that...always fantastic live!
@@jakebarber7735 It's not bad, but the harmonies are kind of muddy and I don't love the key shift Michael's doing between verses. Don't get me wrong, I'll listen to REM all day, any day, recorded or live, but this just seemed to fall short of their usual brilliance, IMO.
