Another thing that works just as well only without the water to clean up is put about ¼ cup of table salt in about a 12oz bottle of water, shake it up thoroughly to dissolve the salt and mix it with the water, and let it freeze for about 3 days it'll cool down to about 15⁰F and stay frozen about two to three times longer than this. The benefit of that over what they did here is as the ice melts the water is contained so you don't soak your food/drinks in saltwater, you don't have a cooler full of water to dump/drain and you can re-freeze the water bottles and reuse them.
Thanks a billion for this idea.
I'll try it.
Did you ever use this method to keep frozen foods frozen? I want to travel about an hour with some ice cream but don’t want to buy dry ice
If you're out camping using this method, & refill your ice chest with "plain" fresh ice, will the bottles (with the salt mixed in) help keep the fresh ice from melting faster even tho they aren't frozen anymore...or is that just wishful thinking?)
I boil about 3/5 to 2/3 OF a gallon of water, add 1/2 to 2/3 cup of ice cream salt or rock salt stir let it dissolve then COOL then pour that in various sized empty water bottles or empty gatorade sized bottles... freeze those for about 2.5- 3.5 days. Use a few of those in a Large cooler, 3-4 depending on size then add 2 large Blue Ice packs(those plastic ones), your cooler will be cold for 3 days no problem. I glued that double sided aluminum with the tiny bubble wrap material sandwiched inside ...glue this on the walls in the cooler and an entire piece on the lid so it would close easily. use brown tape or duct tape over the screw on cap, so some moron doesn't try to drink it. Best cooler I've ever owned, with a bag of ice your stuff will stay cold for at least 7-9 days. Best cooler in the neighborhood hands down! Prevents you from buying ice so often. Keep loose food in water proof containers. You will be amazed how cold the cooler stays for so long. The smaller bottles really come in handy.

Thanks Dale! The Lifetime Products company has a good video on precooling using Dry ice, however you don’t want dry ice in enclosed areas due to carbon monoxide emissions being harmful. 👍
this is a good tips
