Thank you Stephen, Kei, and everyone on the Asian Boss team for taking the time to listen to our story and help spread awareness. If you had registered to donate your bone marrow, thank you so much. We hope that even if this doesn’t directly help Sophia, it helps increase the chances for someone in need of a bone marrow transplant in the future to get the treatment they need! ❤️

I’ve been registered as a bone marrow donor since my eighteenth birthday, which makes it 22 years now. I wish so badly I was contacted, as I would have gone anywhere to help.
Since I didn’t get the notification of being a match, I decided to donate for Sadie instead. I’m sending all my well wishes, and I hope with all of my heart a match is found soon.
Also, for anyone who is scared to do it, I promise you it isn’t painful. You are put under anesthesia, given pain medication whilst under, and just wake up a bit sore. If you keep up on Tylenol, stay hydrated, and rest, it’s just a bruise, and not as really painful. Honestly, if it allays any fears of people considering getting tested to donate, it’s more painful to have an ingrown toenail dealt with.

@@lizzeyflower if you’re in the registry, they usually will search, but depending on where you live, it might be an issue. I contacted the National Bone Marrow Registry for the States, Canadian Blood Services, and also spoke with my hospital, and asked to be specifically tested for this child. I did not come up a match is what I was told. It’s worth calling to ask if you they could please test you. Because the child is part Canadian, it was all I could think to do - and I live rather close to the border, so I could easily get to Canada to help, had I matched.
I hope this helps. It was all I could think to do.

Also often it can be done with just medication and a long blood draw (apheresis), no anesthesia needed! They collect the cells from your bloodstream rather than your bones.

East Asian, preferably Japanese or a genetically close populations (Korean, Northern Chinese) and Northern European. That's the mix they're looking for, although in a few occasions, a match can be found in an individual with totally unrelated ancestry. The parents can also decide to have other children and see if one of Sophia's sibling can be a 100% match.
More generally, to help the tens of thousands of patients in need worlwide, any healthy person, preferably male (or female before any pregnancy), should consider being a bone marrow donor. It doesn't take much time to be registered and get tested and in any case it's unlikely you'll be contacted within a decade if ever. The donation consists in taking pills for weeks before a blood donation in most cases. In a minority of cases, a surgery is required to retrieve the bone marrow from the hip bone, with no risks besides the typical anesthesia-related one.

I have Adult Onset Leukemia myself and after 2 rounds of chemo, I am in remission. Nothing would make me happier than to try and help. I have been a registered marrow donor for 7 years now. If I cant help with a marrow, is there anything else I can do. ? Of course, prayers couldnt hurt, but many times a little extra help financially couldnt hurt.

Important note: To find out if you are a match, you do not need a blood test! A simple saliva swab is enough to be registered in an HLA database. In Germany DKSM sends a kit to you at your home or work address, you follow easy directions to take a swab, and send it back via any mail box. It is so easy! DKSM is also present in the US, Chile, India, Poland, the UK and Africa.
... I really do not understand why only 12 million are registered worldwide 😢
Please consider registering, whatever your ethnicity is, independently of a specific person you have heard of who needs a transplant! Maybe somebody else is waiting for a match...
If and only if you are a match, and you are healthy enough to donate, you will be contacted and further steps will be initiated.

@Alastor255 we know praying in and of itself doesn't do much but bring comfort and ease and raise hopefullness in situations like this. But for most people (especially for those who don't have much to spare), it's also more just to show support that the efforts and measures taken by those who could will bring the right results. But yeah, it would also help to spread awareness since that's probably the very least one can do to help

We trust in the God who can do all things and listens when His people humble themselves and pray. But, let us also make our faith active, donating whatever we can and trusting that God will direct it to the blessing of others. I am heartbroken that our ages disqualify everyone in my family from registering, but I pray for Sophia in faith.

They have a 75% child cancer cure rate and are very accommodating to patients and their families, i.e they do not have to pay for treatment, housing, food, and transportation I believe....but I don't know if they treat out of US families....I know they DO share all their treatment info and protocols internationally.
