Here in Maine the greatest fear is ticks! They carry disease and can actually be life threatening. I wear tick gaiters and special clothing that works very well - no ticks on me for three years!

I’m afraid of running in to Dan Becker - so I avoid motor home campgrounds… 😂

Love the hands in the tent. :) I used to have a fear of about everything you mentioned, but with practice and over time, I’ve overcome them. I still get spooked while in the dark when I’m solo if I hear animal sounds. I prob need to study the sounds to know that say a mouse scratching is not a T-Rex coming to eat me. :) I too have a healthy fear of grizzlies and have yet to backpack in grizzly country.

Wolves, bears, chupacabra, bigfoot, those guys from the movie Deliverance...I can imagine all of it. Really, it's just a fear of being alone in the wilderness. None of that stuff bothered me when it was just me and my skinny 14 year old son (it's not like he's going to protect me from the squadron of monsters outside my tent) but I have a hell of a time being way out there on my own. I'm planning to take some solo trips this year. I'm hoping this time I can make it without having a tense grip on my hunting knife 24 hours a day.

    1st fear - Getting lost
    0:50 2nd - Dangerous people
    1:17 3rd - Exhausting supplies
    3:15 4th - Cold
    4:29 5th - Darkness
    5:09 6th - Bears
    6:15 7th - Boredom
Personal notes: a night light worsens sleep quality; bring an e-reader for passing time; all these fears are based on some truly dangerous thing - just be rational about it, be ready, and do it even if you’re scared. No tips or tricks will make anyone 100% safe, but somethings can help! My biggest is people, so I prepare for that. :)

More of a concern than a fear is injury, like a twisted ankle miles from the trailhead. Satellite communicator helps, but will I trust my decision making skills under such stress if I’m solo hiking.

I thought I was the only one who wears the headlamp around my neck! I always know where it is when I wake up and I am not beaming anyone in the face even if using red. It’s already pointed to the ground. Great minds think!

Rugged Mountain Mister is usually most scared of either being caught out in storms/thunder or wild animals. RMSister's is having to go to the bathroom at night... so I guess its kind of being afraid of the dark. My biggest fear is probably just something happening to the kids while we're out. Whether it be injury, animals, falling... you know, like when Mister is walking around the edge up at Hanson's Point. Just makes me nervous.

Nice video. I'm still recovering from the worst poison oak rash I've ever seen. Still healing after over a month. I didn't know I had it until days later. So yeah, that's my big fear. I'm making sure to bring soap, hand sanitizer, and wipes if I know I get in contact with the Urushiol so I can scrub it off.

Fear of getting lost is only in the mind. You actually know where you are just maybe not where you want to be. The best is knowing how to read a proper map and use an old fashioned compass. I’m not religious at all but I carry my old military bible. It’s small and waterproof if stuck in a place it’s a book to read to pass the time. I do use gps but never relie on it and I’m lucky because I have this ability to memorize maps.

    Prayer and avoiding vain imaginations...
All the above fears have at timed crossed my mind and people seem to enjoy pushing their fears on others...just pray and then trust the promises of God...

Always make sure you take enough snacks with you, the best tip. 💪🏻 Some good chocolate can help you calm down in situtions. Also useful for staying alive longer if you get lost or to throw it at a hungry bear. 😄
