  • Nick Bryant has long been fascinated by the United States, a super power that he has always understood as being one of the world's great democracies.
After living there for most of his adult life, Nick abandoned America for the sunnier shores of Australia when his children realised why they were doing 'shooter drills' at school.
He's now had three years away from his beloved America, and in that time Nick has re-assessed his beliefs about the country.
To Nick, modern America's wild political polarisation is 250 years in the making, and the great American experiment is failing miserably.

Bryant's is a fascinating and valuable voice, that helps give us Strayans some informed perspective on the 'failed state'* that is Murrrca.
(I quote, and concur with, the former host of Late Night Live.)

As an American 🇺🇸 this is one of the most fascinating interviews on US politics I’ve heard in a long time.
Came here after hearing Bryant remarks on NPR when Biden dropped out of the race

A US writer & commentator was asked when in Australia, what's the difference between Australia's two main parties and the US's. He responded by saying that the Liberal Party was like the right-wing of the Democrats and the ALP was like the left-wing of the Democrats and the Republican Party was waaaaay out on its own. That was a comment made many years before Trump.
