  • This historic old house was built by a civil war veteran who served in a couple large battles in maryland during the American civil war. After the war he built this nice old farmhouse in western Pennsylvania in the late 1860’s too early 1870’s. When the house was built he offered it as a gift too his new bride. The house would stay in there same family for a century until being sold to a relative in the late 1980’s. Sadly the final owners passed away with no kids too pass the house onto so now it has sat forgotten since the late 90’s. Truly a unique place and I would have loved too seen it when it still had the second story porch on the front of the house! It would’ve been a beautiful place back in the day especially before the asphalt shingles was added on the exterior over the wooden siding. Sadly this place appears to be in its final days. Just glad I was able too document it! Thank you for watching! Like & comment and subscribe if you enjoy my videos! Thank you!

It's sad, you know? These great, solid, old homes are treated like the elderly in this country. Thrown away, and forgotten, like all that junk. It's a disgrace, really, but people's values today are, too. Thanks, Kappy! Hi, Ruby! Sorry to vent, but it gets me sometimes

The respect thing is totally on spot.
Shoot as a child if I showed disrespect to any elders as I see today I would have literally been crucified by my elders for any amount of disrespect..Plus the value of actually earning my way was highly enforced not everything being out like seen today..

I saw a little video today of historical Detroit- pictures of once magnificent sights from a glorious, distant past, beside the ruins it's in today. I kept hearing that old familiar refrain, how we are responsible for protecting our world 'for the future.' Seems like those in charge, who constantly espouse these sentiments, have done a very poor job of protecting our history, let alone our world. 'Actions speak louder than words,' but today's programming dictates that people trust the rhetoric and ignore the actions. The good old days really were just that, regardless of what the programmed rhetoric and propaganda tells you. There is a reason for all that deception. The problem is, will people wake up to the deception before it's too late?

Old houses used to have toilets in the basement to help prevent backups in the upstairs bathrooms. When backups occurred, sewage would enter homes and overflow from the fixtures lowest to the ground, so the basement toilet acted as a safety valve.

I can't believe all of the stuff that was left behind. So many things discarded through out the house. This is so sad 😢. The house was just ransacked by people who just didn't care what they tore up and what they could take.
I bet at one time a happy family lived in it and the house was filled with lots of love.

That's lathe on the walls Kappy. They'd nail it up first with gaps in between, then slather on the plaster. Plaster would ooze between the lathe in order to cling.
The wallpaper and paneling in older homes was to cover cracks in the plaster as the homes would settle.
I've lived in several older homes. Currently my farmhouse, 133yrs old, has the same issues. Many layers of wallpaper, which I've painted over, and paneling, that I thought I'd never use, is currently in one bedroom and will be putting a chair rail in my dining room with Aspen paneling.
Those trusses in the attic, would burn for days if used for firewood. Old wood gets harder as it ages and burns nice and sloooow.
Great capture of times when homes were built to last.
Edit: I commented before I got to the end.
Sure hope you're able to go inside all those homes at the end of the video.
    Love seeing everything.

I can see this house being lived in by the original owners. Raised a family then grew old. The children probably moved away, if they had any. My point is that when we are gone all that is left is our stuff to show that we were ever here. Although it shows a life well lived, maybe some struggles along the way but everyone has those. IDK, it just makes me sad to see so many personal items rotting away and no one bothered to tend to all the memories. It breaks my heart.

My mother would have been thrilled with this house considering all the mason jars that were left. I definitely would have been bringing her home some canning jars, which meant more food for the winter! The dresser with the big round mirror that had been broken in one of the rooms had what is called a waterfall top. That style is from the 1920s and 30s. It is an Art Deco style. I was surprised you didn't mention the baby pram in the attic. A lot of people get excited about baby prams. Nice tour of that abandoned home!🎉

That looks like a 1959 Plymouth Fury!.... or at least a Belvedere. That's a SUPER RARE car these days! And worth a good chunk when restored! If you've ever seen the movie "Christine" .....which was based on a murderous red 1958 Fury, you'll see why they are highly sought after! 🤷‍♀️

    • @joshriver75
      @joshriver75 10 місяців тому +2

Pretty sure it is a Fury based on the side trim holes. The trim on a Belvedere stops just behind the front wheel-well. Goes all the way to the front on a Fury. Also turns upward on the rear fin for a fury but kinda hard to tell for sure from the video.

    • @chrissytaylor5690

@@joshriver75 yeah, the vid doesn't focus on the parts of the body that give it away. But I do believe you're right that it's a fury because it looks like a higher trim level. I always get the feeling in these old houses like someone is hiding in there. Especially when there’s a room with a door that won’t open or only opens a little. I listened several times to the part at the end during the explore of the basement when there was that odd sound from above. Don’t think that was wind. Definitely a door being opened and someone running out. Maybe from the bathroom on main floor? Seemed like someone was pushing door from inside. Always amazed at all the old pianos left behind. Those are expensive instruments, yet they lie abandoned in so many of these houses.

Such amazing sights you bring us each Week, Kappy! Seeing so many old brands bring up nice memories: the Land O' Lakes (before they removed the Indian Maid!) Chase & Sandborn Coffee, Fantastik! cleaner, Lincoln Logs, Alcoa Wrap, the Crock Pot in 70's lettering, Cheer! (I can still see their laundry detergent commercial!), BB gun (oh, once upon a time, BB guns were the bees knees to play with!) RCA and barrels with hard cardboard sides! Oh, those wonderful pieces of furniture/consoles that housed old televisions! There must have been a HI FI console somewhere in that mess! And I think that was a pianola, a player piano that could play songs off of prerecorded on rolls. I get a kick out of these toilets in the basement. Brings to mind something I read long time ago, about a pioneer lady's reaction, who, in a so very much more distant time ago, was faced with having a toilet IN HER HOUSE. To her, the idea was disgusting. No doubt, her idea of an in house 'toilet' was having an outhouse erected beside her sitting room which Would Indeed be unpleasant, bordering on disgusting. Is a toilet in the basement a glimpsed into early opinions about how floorplans should be designed? Or simply an added convenience during someone's basement activities? Thank you for the memories, Kappy. So many memories, and you didn't even touch the shellac records! Oh, those were the days, glorious even smothered in dust and cobwebs! You can't old buy memories; that's why they're priceless!

The Plymouth looks like Christine from the movie Christine and Maverick was made by Ford.and I belive that was a player piano. You'd put a roll inside the mechanism and it played by itself.

A good size Farm House in it's day. A couple of pieces of furniture savable. The B&W Motorola from the 1950's was was high end. The piano is called Player Piano. You would insert roller sheet to play music by itself. The Ford Maverick was from the 1970's. The reason you don't here much of this car. It had a major flaw. You rear end this and the gas tank would explode. The Plymouth from the mid to late 1950's. It's a Plymouth Fury . The body shape looks in good shape. It might be restorable.

The house of the mason jars! Darn that cheesy paneling, drop ceilings. I’m glad I can see thru that stuff, but oh I bet it was a neat place back in the day! Thanks for posting !
A Ford maverick! I learned to drive in my Moms 73 Ford Maverick! Lol!

That's a Ford Maverick. They first started making them in the seventies as an economical car that got better gas mileage. My dad bought one for my mom, the first brand new car they'd ever had and we had it for about two days before my sixteen year old sister totaled it 🫤 That was 1975 or 76. Loved the video Kappy.

This must've been a beautiful house in its day. As with a lot of these old houses it seems like the last occupants might've been hoarders. One thing I noticed that was rather odd, was no fireplaces, couldn't really see any chimneys either except for that partial one by the back porch? Very strange. Thank you for the video!!

So was it abandoned in the late 90s, like the description says, or the late 70s, like the calendar said? It’s really strange how abandoned houses sometimes have really old calendars and then fairly new calendars nearby.

It amazes me that someone hung those clothes up 45 years ago and there still hanging thete.I wonder what the record is for that?Did someone hang clothes up 200 years ago and they're still hanging?Maybe in Egyptian tombs they hung up garments 3,500 years ago and they're still hanging.

Looks like a player piano. Some people used to write phone numbers on the wall near the phone when they didn't have paper or didn't want to lose a number (my mom would never have allowed it!). I hate how people thought paneling could cover a multitude of sins back in the day.

Don’t often see player pianos that weren’t gutted and resold as regular ones back in the 60’s and 70’s, the basement toilet was less for using and more for managing overflow from an older sewer system.

That was a player piano. This was a farmhouse. Built when farmers had big families in order to help run the farm. That Hoover cabinet in the kitchen is actually worth quite a bit of money even though it is damaged. My husband and I were moving into our first old house in 1977. We were young and had more energy than money. The paneling is more of a 60's craze. I remember my parents putting up paneling in their old house. Sigh. The place there had pretty wall paper on the walls that weren't paneled. There must have been an incredible view from the second story porch. Sadly, this is another old house that has outlived it's purpose. I felt like the trees in the front of the house were hiding it in shame. Made me feel very sad. The cars were both Plymouths. The one with the fins from the 50's; the Maverick was from the 60's. Thanks for another interesting video.

Looks like someone ransacked the place looking for something and apparently did not find it so they threw everything around in a rage. How sad. That player piano was great, I bet there were some of the old tumblers around that had the music on it. Bet this place was beautiful back in the day though, too bad it has decayed to this. Thank you for sharing and you have a great day
