MY BACK WINDOW SHATTERED (TEMPERED GLASS) FOR NO APPARENT REASON 🤷♂️

- With no visible punctures to the glass, myself nor the Safelite Technician could figure out why my back window shattered for no apparent reason. He even suggested that maybe the rear heat defogger may have been left on but wait! we live in South Florida, (not likely). I have heard similar stories of glass shattering in extreme temperatures, but it's rare. Nevertheless my deductible was more than the cost of the glass, so I ended up paying out of pocket. The mobile Technician came out and replaced the rear glass with no other issues. Thanks for watching! Support my channel by Subscribing to PayYourSelfBack. Be well my friend
Hey C’los. This happened to me once when I lived in Tulsa. They said that in the hi heat, with all the windows up, the heat causes a lot of pressure inside and it popped my back window, just like what you got going on. I now keep a tiny crack in one of my door windows to keep the pressure off.
Yeah I may start leaving mine cracked too. Thanks for the info
That is wild! Glad Mrs. C-Los made it home safe to you.
Glad it all worked out. Never seen that before.
Mine did the same thing and Safelight said “oh, we don’t do convertibles.”
So, a friend of mine who used to own a glass shop, his wife told him he still had connections for glass and to do it, so I was lucky! He told me all glass is under pressure and some just eventually break.
I’ve seen glass candle holders blow up before from extreme heat from the fire. It depends on how the sun was glaring on the glass. This happened to someone that I know. I hope al goes well 🙏🏻
I live in North Carolina and insurance paid for replacement on my rear window. I am surprised USAA isn't covering you totally.
I was surprised myself, but now I know.
That is extremely strange... no clue on my end!
Wow! Had recent problems with my windshield but nothing as strange. Good to hear nobody was hurt on the road or something. Be cool like you be cool.
Thanks, you too!
Wow! It's a good thing the glass didn't cave in while Janet was driving.
Oh yeah tell me about it.
That happened to me in 1976 withy Chevy Vega, I opened the door to go home from work and closed the door, and the whole back window just exploded into pieces, found out that the car was pressurized, and with the combination of the heat, the window shattered, the insurance paid the full cost of the replacement at the time, glad your wife is ok.
Very interesting, Thanks for the Info!
WOW thats crazy! Something probably hit it and we know the heat played a roll as well..smh..Glad there were no safety issues and everything turned out well.
Thanks Lorenzo!
Be blessed
My Avalon did that when my wife drive out to south Ga and i think it was the heat
Sorry . But you are outta there soon and in your new home. Blessings to you both.
Sho ya right! Thanks
wow that’s awful - about to move from Boston hope that doesn’t happen to us. Keep up the great work and God Bless bro
I appreciate it!
Great channel man. Sorry y'all got hit by Ian. I live in Alabama but kick around the idea of moving to Florida because I work remote and my sister is up in Niceville, FL. Keep making content.
All good. Thanks
I’m glad you all are ok! Florida being a no fault state has saved me from rock chips and cracks. I’ve never had the glass shatter.
Thanks Dolli!
That’s unusual... Check to see if there’s a recall on your vehicle.
Sometimes factory installed windows are under tensions and stressors after the installation because of it possibly being installed incorrectly. Temperature causing contraction and expansion of the glass can build up torsion stresses. It’s a bummer CLos.
Will definitely look into it. Appreciate it Robert!
Good job there was window tint on it as long as your both safe
Tell me about it. Thanks
I was a mechanic never seen that happen
That can happen if the rear defroster is turned on by mistake or in the case of some VWs the rear defrost relay fails in the ON position
Even in Florida or hot climates this should not happen
Maybe the type of tint sheet with metal coating could hold heat in and cause this- Maybe!
Very interesting, Thanks for sharing!!
Landscaping guy hit my driver window once.... Yours is different
A Loud sound way frequency can do that. That is still weird
Wow wow strange
I have heard of(though I've never personally seen it) high heat causing enough thermal stress to shatter a windshield. Is that what happened? Who knows? Sorry you had to deal with that man
It's the weirdest thing. Thanks
Did you buy that car down there? Tempered glass expands and contracts with changes in temperature. If you bought that car from a colder climate it’s good chance this can happen to you. It has happen to me from moving from VA to Tx.
I purchased it here in Florida.
I just had mine so that today 10/24/1022 on a 2021 chevy tahoe the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me. Even the car dealership is in aww. Just purchases it a month ago.
Awwwe I'm sorry to hear that. Good luck
The car got too hot. It happened to my brother in Texas. All of his windows burst on him at one time.
WOW!
Call VW
omg, that is awful.
What did the repairman say about it?
He had never seen it happen.
Maybe its been replaced before and they put real glass instead of tempered..
Well from what I understand the tempered glass is suppose to shatter like that, and is usually on the sides and rear windows.
