Sweet looking king at the beginning. I swear there are lotto #'s on the carapace of boxies. 4:36 🤣 Max doubling up on the kings. Got the timber! Nice point about leaving it be sometimes. Congrats on the new box turtle record. Cool vid, Gabe. Enjoyed it. Still trying to figure out the dirty diaper, but....
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed. You have never found an in-shitu diaper while herping?? Maybe you need to come to Georgia, I have some reliable spots 😅. Yeah, it was a great day in the field and Max found all the “good stuff”. Fun times.
@@naturewithgabe Sounds like Max will be tagging along on all future trips. lol Yeah, I've found a few in-shitu diapers while shining cuts in WTX. You run across everything but alterna doing that it seems.
Man I need to go out with you guys! 11 box turtles, 9 snake species, tons of amphibians and birds, you guys are doing it right! Really nice diversity on this hike, I love those kinds of days. Great work Gabe! - Harrison and Evan
Fascinating Gabe! I’m not much of a herper yet but as you saw on my Arizona video I am starting to get into it more and more. Of course I live in northern Minnesota which is not exactly a hotbed for herping :-)
Looks like you travel enough to get into some interesting herps. Minnesota and Wisconsin have some good herping, too but probably mostly a bit south of where you are.
Cool vid, I love watching people herp. I got into it a bit about a year ago. The only venomous snakes in the wild i've seen are 1 copperhead but a lot of cotton mouths. I used to live in a swamp and i fish a lot, I mostly see water snakes.
Sweet video man! Eastern kings, timbers, and copperheads are all very high on my list. I just need to get to the other side of the country at some point...
Without picking them up, which is the most accurate way (looking at shape of shell and length of tail), males are generally more colorful and have a redder eye, but that’s not always the case.
Have you ever seen a venomous snake in the wild? They are some incredible and very misunderstood animals!
I have seen many venomous snake species in my time, and every encounter has been super exciting!

Me too! It was a great outing. It’s pretty much always a good day when the box turtles are out!

Great vids! Check out Newman's Wetland Center in Clayton County if you get the chance.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it! I love the Wetland Center, I’ve been a few times.
How can you tell the difference between box turtle sexes?
