Sir, for your kind information, Pakistan is classified as greater-middle eastern country for political & cultural studies - this is because Pakistan's culture & politics have origins in the middle east. For geographical studies, Pakistan is studied as a South-Asian country. None of what applies to South-Asia applies to Pak - may it be religion, political setup, ethnicity of people, their culture, living habits, values & beliefs, societal structure, history, social issues, economic drivers etc. This is exactly the reason why no Pakistani political analyst ever came up with any sensible analysis on any topic. Even the Pakistanis doing PhDs in foreign universities produced nothing worthier than what can go into a garbage can. Their assumption that Pak is south-Asian from a political & cultural perspective is completely flawed.

At the end he said, "PM NS got disqualified by the SC and later on he resigned". There is no such choice either to stay or resign. After a clear judgment by SC, he was immediately disqualified and out of power corridors.

Presidential system can work in Pakistan with a powerful local body structure in form of mayors for every town, village and city. In the long run a national identity could be developed and in short term the president won’t need corrupt MNAs more or less controlled by the establishment, to get into power and hence stay under constant pressure or blackmailing tactics. Instead he/ she could form the cabinet by picking the capable persons for the job, who could belong to any political party.
Parliamentary system has miserably failed in Pakistan. Once a PM is elected;he is considered selected. All opposition parties starts creating havoc to dethrone the elected PM. Both the ruling party and confluence of opposition parties demean each other on roads and parliament's floor where legislation has to be done.
PM spends five years like a rollar-coaster ride with the fear of removal from office.
Is this democracy?
Parliamentary system was the choice of Jinnah. Its working great in many countries, so shutup and keep your wish to yourself.

he said that people against the power of political parties are against the parliamentary system which is an extremely flawed narrative. Anyone who understands the parliamentary system of pakistan knows that it keeps the prime minister who is supposed to be the main authority vulnerable to third parties who can exploit his weakness for their own benefit and also makes it easier for outsiders to influence government. Pakistans parliamentary system is perfectly suited to the people who do not want any one elected person to be above the influence of the mafias and the iron grip of the establishment.
Though parliamentary system is not free of flaws, however I believe it would be easier for Establishment to hijack the president and become one man army. Both systems are good to go if democracy nurtures in its true sense, obviously, never going to happen. IK came with the claim of promoting competent and literate class. I voted him for solely this reason. What happened to him, all we better know. Since 1947, Pakistan is hostage to few hands. Better is to chop those hands or at least make them limited to intervene.

And how can military hijack a President?
A President is directly elected by People.
They can only use Parliament to impeach him.
But how would they impeach him if a President is good?
Military would not go against goodwill of masses and create an anti army feeling.
So it's very Difficult for military to hijack a President which directly elected by people and not indirectly by MNAs.
In parliamentary system, military can use MNAs to overthrow a PM and bring another one.
That's why every PM, in history of Pakistan, lives under fear of being overthrow.
So to avoid it, PM has to give favours to his party members and even accept unlawful demands.
The PM also defends corruption of his own party members to avoid collapse of government.
This is one of the main hindrances in front of process of accountability.
Imran khan became PM only by accepting people who have been in corrupt parties like PPP, PML Q.....
How would he create Riyasat e madina, if he has to accept unlawful demands of his pti members?
He can never create Riyasat e madina with Parliamentary system because he would have to constantly accept blackmailing of his ministers.
If he promotes an investigation against any corruption of hi s minister, his government will collapse.
How long will he have to contest Election to avoid being stuck in this mess??
It's very difficult to satisfy hundreds of People, if Imran khan wants bring radical reforms.
Imran khan has to be freed from shackles of parliamentary system if we want him to succeed in creating Riyasat e madina.
We need Presidential System that would allow him to chose his cabinet as per competence and Not out of coercion.
Well theoretically looks everything sophisticated. Unfortunately, it is theory only. Practically, this is the establishment that controls the masses. TLP is best example of this scenario. So doesn't matter whether president is elected by masses or few. Establishment can mobilize the public in the name of religion, patriotism, Kashmir issue, jihad and Indian rivalry. History always witnessed that. Solution is to make establishment neutral and politics free, not going to happen at least in my age.
Second, what is the definition of "good president." Indeed it is customized and personal to each faction. Many factions in this country, consider IK, the agent of Yahood. It is not about PML N or PPP only. Even IK's own people maligned him many times. So impeaching for right reasons is only valid for civilized and rational nations not religious extremists like us.
Third, when IK was questioned about containing lootas into his cabinet, he used to claim that if head is pious, cabinet will go that way too. Now after four years, saying that his ministers are major hindrances to establish the Riyast e Madina, I am astonished.
I acknowledge that PML N and PPP are corrupt, however its hard to say that Pakistan make zero progress in last 70 years. We can claim that its not ideal one, however still progress is here despite 35 years of military coups, half of total history. We can say that parliamentary system has delivered, though not according to expectation. So making sweeping statements regarding the flaws of parliamentary system and asking to experiment Presidential system for fourth time, is intellectual terrorism. In USA, France, presidential system is paying coz of its maturity. Both countries have a democratic history of centuries. And here in Pakistan, democracy ever prevailed in its true sense? Be honest please
Whether it is parliamentary or presidential democracy, the system would still remain corrupt and inefficient unless and until judiciary is reformed thoroughly.
It doesn't help a substandard person when couldn't do anything in life becomes a lawyer and start practicing sitting under a banyan tree selling stamp papers and eventually end up as a judge in high and supreme courts.
Same failure of substandard judiciary reflects the failure of the entire country as a whole.
You can not bring reforms for Judiciary in this parliamentary system because parliament is full of corrupts people. They will never agree on any law that would go against interests of this Elite.
They would make sure that majority of judges, that are appointed in courts, are not appointed on merit or are corrupt.
Only corrupt judges will protect interests of corrupt elite of Parliamentary system.
IF we bring Presidential System, corrupt people would not prefer to become MNAs because in P.S. MNAs will not get development funds and their job would be only Legislation.
Corrupts will instead fight for muncipal elections or district level administration.
In this way Pakistan's parliament would get people who are more likely to be competent to make legislation.
In parliamentary system, MNAs get development funds and at the same time can make legislation.
So obviously they will make laws that give them monetary benefits.
That's how corruption increases.
Presidential System is a lot better and we definitely need it.

Pakistan needs a Presidential system. We have used Parliamentary system for 19 years(as you said), then tell me did Pakistan make progress or suffered Downfall?
I would say Massive Downfall under multiple regimes of Parliamentary system.
Constitution has been amended by corrupt elite to adjust it according to needs of elite and Not in the interests of People of Pakistan.
MNA's role should be Legislation only.
But in parliamentary system, MNAs get also development funds and their Legislation is deeply correlated to their monetary benefits.
Legislation is done to make way for corrupt judges to take over judiciary in the long run to derail accountability of powerful elite.
Development is only done in those areas where MNAs would get votes for re-election.
Police System is destroyed to help MNAs bypass accountability and rule of Law.
Parliament has become a gathering of corrupt elite. It's no more a respected place for guarding interests of masses.
If a Honest person get elected as a PM, he faces constant blackmailing by opposition and his own party members to give them favours or work for interests of an elite.
If he puts aside demands of elite, he is threatened with a possible collapse of government.
Interests of people of Pakistan are pushed aside and are not even the Priority.
We never had a democratic Presidential system.
In the past we had martial law administrations that came with military force, not democratically.
General Ayub came through a martial law and chose himself by a limited electoral college of basic Democrats of 80 000 people.
Larger population was not allowed to elect President.
That's why even Fatima Jinnah lost because of limited electoral college.
Zia ul Haq and musharraf also came with Coup and imposed their rule with Force.
It does not matter if they did referendum or not. We all know how voting works in Pakistan.
Even if people had voted against them, they would not have gone because they had command of military force with them.
People of Pakistan never elected a President directly in a democratic way.

Pakistan needs to develop institutions and place institutions over individuals.

Parliamentary System is a system that favours a rich elite, not larger population of Pakistan.
MNAs elect PM. If a person does not follow interests of an elite, those MNAs would oppose his Position of PM and would constantly try to overthrow him.
PM would be constantly blackmailed by his party members if he does not give them favours.
We need a Presidential system that allows the majority of people to elect our Leader directly without interference of MNAs or establishment or anyone else.
Presidential System has so many benefits. It is a lot better.
That's why powerful countries chose Presidential System and rejected Parliamentary system.

But, the thing is that to bridge the gap between the people and the higher echelons of state administration, we need to have a strong local body government. It will not only enhance the representation of common people but will also ameliorate our governance system.
Meanwhile, as far as other presidential systems of the world are concerned, they are mature. They have strived for a long time such as the US presidential system and French presidential system.
I will reiterate my point that what good is a presidential system if we have moribund governance in our country? All we need are major reforms in our system of governance, law, and execution.

So this perspective is wrong that presidential system itself takes away the freedom of provinces/states.

Tahir Malik Sb is a great intellectual and is one of my favorite teachers and in fact i once told him that the current plight of Muslims is caused by abandoning the political aspects of Islam. Here we're debating the pros and cons of Presidential/parliamentery democracy but Allah commands Aelaye Kalimatullah. How can you impose Adam Smith, Machiavelli and JJ Rousseau's ideas upon the Muslim masses more than 80% of whom advocates for Sharia in the country (As per the pew survey). This country will never get on the track unless what the people seeks become the ruling system. When Russians sought communism and implemented it, they achieved great successes. When the westerners adopted what they believed in as the ruling system, they made unprecedented advancements. The Muslim Ummah believes in Islam and so it can achieve the glory through implementation of Sharia. Not to forget that it's the command of Allah whether success comes with it or not.

Once one leaves Pakistan, one realises that Pakistan has a great potential and a lot to offer. Kuch loha kharab, kuch lohar. There is critical twist in the narration of the difference between Presidential and Parliamentary system explained by Tahir. The crux of the matter is the governance in parliamentary democracy weakens institutions whereas in Presidential form the institutions are strengthened.
There is no need to have a Chief Minister in or Prime Minister in the house when President is functional enough to take decisions. With NSC instituted in the country, I'm hopeful this new form of Government will be reinstated with major reforms in the previous charter.

Two twins were born in 1971 after partition of united Pakistan. Original Pakistan becomes Bangladesh and West Pakistan becomes Pakistan. Both countries were founded on right-wing Islamic ideology. But,
1. Bangladesh becomes a successful democracy and Pak becomes pretty much an Islamic dictatorship.
2. Bangladesh has a respectable image as a developing nation. Pakistan is known for nothing but terrorism.
3. Bangladesh is rated highly on every measure as compared to Afghanistan or Pakistan.
How did this happen? Why don't Pakistanis do comparative studies with Bangladesh and do some TV shows? As an Indian I would like to see such studies. Same with Pakistan's brothers Iran & Afghanistan. Afghanistan & Pak have the exact same culture. But don't see any TV shows about Afghanistan affairs.
Pakistan need to become an one party state like China and it should adopt China's economic policies!

In Pakistan Parliamentary system is not suitable there is nothing wrong in the form of government rather people who are ruling under this violating to their advantage.
Every electable acts like a king and sold under a price then these electable choose their prime minister and PM in the whole tenure gets black mail.
It is very much difficult to form one government which as power to deliver mostly government are formed under collation this creates further opportunities for weak form of government.
In Pakistan whenever a comparison is done they always do it with dictatorship which is a wrong comparison.
Flawed analysis. No institution be supreme whether parliament or executive or judiciary. Divide power equally and be each a check on one another. So everybody can check each other.

Actually neither parliamentary nor presidential will work in Pakistan because majority of people are munifiq and specially all the top thugs of the country are politician, why even we need so many elected MNA and MPA, in the parliament there should be only 10 to 12 chairs, sitting should be Asif Ali Bhutto and family, Nawaz Sharief family, maulana family and 3,4 other part chief, whatever they agree upon their slaves agree with that, everything has failed and will fail in future. Just government should keep begging from international donors.

The Upper System is fine. Parliamentary System is much better than Presidential System as there is no clash between Executive and Legislative Branch, which exists in Presidential System. Moreover, the Executive Branch i.e. Federal Cabinet remains under check -n-balance by the Parliament. Presidential System makes the Executive Branch, to some extent, unquestionable.
Pakistan needs to evolve its Lower System, Not the Upper One. Pakistan needs to become either a Unitary State or a Confederation. This middle thing 'Federation' is damaging the country. Either give significant power to provinces or make the provincial govts. powerless and divide power among Center and Tehsil Govts.
Bro, it was Army that tried many times to bring local government system in Pakistan. After millitary rule ended, local government system became disfunctional again.
Why?
Because MNAs get development funds along legislative powers and they are not ok with funds being diverted to lower level with local government system.
They want to keep that money with themselves and use it also for personal benefits.
That's why they make laws to make local government system dysfunctional.
This is happening for a long time.
In Parliamentary system, PM is forced to choose people within a small group of people belonging to his party.
If his party members get annoyed, they start blackmailing him for not giving them ministries.
How can a PM work for the nation, if he is under constant fear of being blackmailed or ousted from government??
He would waste all his time & energies on saving his seat, rather than working for the nation.
What if there are no competent people in party for some ministries?
Can an incompetent team run a country?
This is happening with PTI.
In presidential system, there are also checks & balances.
Legislative bodies can make laws to restrict Presidential powers & can question him according to laws in the constitution.
Impeachment is also there.
Moreover President is questionable & responsible to the people of the country.
If he does anything against wishes of people, he can be impeached & would not be elected again.
Presidential system is better than parliamentary system.
Parliamentary system is still working in those countries where people are highly educated and stands up for their rights and against corruption.
It can not work in Pakistan.
Majority of population is illiterate in Pakistan. MNAs use vote for personal interests & would not let a honest PM make reforms that limits their influence or monetary benefits.
MNAs also do not want to be held accountable.
This is a vicious circle we are caught in.
Presidential system would allow us (majority population) to elect a honest leader.
He would have freedom to choose any competent person all over Pakistan for the right job in any ministry.
He would create a local government system that works for lower levels of society.
If we keep parliamentary system, MNAs would continue to be elected by illiterate people.
MNAs are usually illiterate & incompetent people who use money & influence to get elected using huge money for public campaign.
Once they get elected, they use development funds to compensate their own electoral expenses.
If we don't get honest & competent MNAs, how will Pakistan progress??
We are already behind rest of the world, can we afford to continue like this?

Parliamentary system can only function in a society which respects each others opinion. Our society is homogenous and each has his own agenda. Direct election of president in our country will provide more cohesion to our country
