People arguing about if John wrote the song about LSD but nobody is talking about how he is also talking about freedom of expression and asking real questions in the 60’s about why people take drugs and that has to be the smartest thing someone has said during that time. He was living in the future man damn... RIP John.

@@AwkwardHandshaking I've noticed the same thing of just sort of toiling about, realizing we have these glaring problems, but then realizing that doing the best you can for yourself is sort of the only thing you can do. Which just sort of means a normal life.

I've heard John deny Lucy so many times, I'm a believer now. John didn't shy away from drug controversy much. So, there's that.
Still, it's too obviously a song about LSD "to say anythin' else," as John would have said.
@@mitchellhawkes22 I do wonder if he'd a mind to mess with the media, using controversy for press coverage like many modern celebrities.
As long as he denied any link it would be a question to ask and joke about.

The real argument against it referring to LSD would be, why would they do it, Velvet Underground released Heroin, in the very same year and only 3 years later Jimmy Hendrix released Purple Haze. Why would The Beatles who were pretty open about their drug use be so inclined to make an acronym in a quite odd and unsatisfying way, and then deny it.

John is absolutely right! That’s why the “war on drugs” is and always has been b.s.. Society will be fixed from the bottom up with loving care, not the top down with lies and deception.
In the beginning of Power vs. Force by David R. Hawkins, he talks about how much that is wrong with society is that we tackle the effects of problems rather than the root cause. And that applies to every facet of life. We are largely living and run by a low level of consciousness. Until we collectively evolve to a higher paradigm not much will change. If you can't get people to see what the actuall problem is, then they will not care. And try and change someone's perception, see how that goes.
@@ZackWilliams_TheProducer You’re absolutely correct. God manifested himself in the flesh, lived among us and established the blueprint for exactly what you’re talking about. The leaders (religious and secular) of His day tortured and murdered him for it. Not much has changed, although the institution He established, as fractured as it is, is still here 2021 years later, and “low level consciousness” still rules the day. Always has and always will.

There was (and still is) a lot of misinformation back then about LSD with people believing it causes permanent insanity. However, there haven't been any cases of people developing mental disorders like psychosis as a direct result from taking LSD. That only happens if you already have a family history of psychosis.
Geoffrey Brunell I’ve never looked into it because I was gonna do it anyway, but supposedly you can get PTSD though depending on what happens during ur trip
Truth and wisdom like this gets buried under the noise of nonsense! I have NEVER heard anyone in power ask the simple question, "Why do people do drugs?"
I'm actually old enough to remember this appearance. There were several other topics covered on this show which are clues to what's true and what's not. For instance, John and Yoko were trying to get custody of Yoko's daughter from her previous marriage during this time, and her ex-husband was very successfully arguing in court to keep John and Yoko from seeing the young girl. There had already been a "marijuana" incident with John in New York, and he was legitimately concerned that he might be deported or refused entry to the country if his previous drug use remained a frequent topic of discussion. Of course the song is absolutely about LSD, but John was in no position to admit it during this appearance. The artist in him probably cringed at having to provide such literal and absolute explanations, also, and likely preferred to leave it to the listener's interpretation.
There is a book called, "Drugs as Weapons Against Us". George and John's drinks were spiked with LSD by a dentist. The dentist was the son of a constable. Both of them had a very bad experience particularly John. Highly unlikely that John would have in any way made light of the experience. Get the book.
My brother. The truth is the truth is the truth. You're absolutely correct. Nixon had Hoover's FBI up his ass and wanted his Visa permanently revoked.
Good points!

Lennon makes acute observations of life, says it straight without bullshit or sugar coat. What a guy! He is one of my favorite human beings, he beats even Gandhi.
When my son was about 11 years old he entered a Jaycee Relay Race. He’d never ran track before and didn’t know everybody wore shorts. He came in jeans, to everyone’s amusement. He ran the last leg for his team - and came away the fastest runner of the day, and made up considerable distance to win. This video made me think of that day. How I wish I had been able to see it, instead of only hear and read about it. I was a single mom and had to work. My son was an amazing athlete. ❤️
That is a lovely story, hope you and your son are well. ❤️
I seem to be in the minority here, but I think John is lying through his teeth. This is right in the era of LSD, this is right in the era of them putting hidden messages in songs. I read the book about the Beatles and LSD, and during Revolver and Pepper, they were obsessed with LSD. Now I'm not one of those Paul is Dead people, but there are so many hidden messages in Beatles songs. It goes back to when they recorded Rain and John put the vocal take backwards in the bridge. After that they became BIG fans of backmasking and putting hidden things into the songs. Even on the cover of Sgt Pepper there are pictures of Karl Marx, Allister Crowley, they KNEW that people were reading into their stuff way too much, and my theory is that the Beatles just played into it. They gave em a little gift. There is no doubt in my mind that Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds stands for LSD. The lyrics are so obviously depicting an LSD trip, and let's not forget that Tomorrow Never Knows lyrics were taken from a book ABOUT LSD. John is trying to walk it back because he doesn't want the immigration cops coming after him anymore, but it's pretty obvious to me that he is talking about LSD. I've got you JOHN!!!!
King and Queen of the Losers and ppl like u are the reason why they made I am the walrus 😂

Lincoln Schmit i agree it’s just that I don’t rlly think that that was the whole purpose. Lincoln Schmit I just listened to Sgt Peppers a few nights ago, on my very first trip. It’s as if it was meant to be listened to on LSD.
What is that book called? I wanna read it!!
Anyone here taken LSD and listened to this song...or the whole album, that will give you the answer. It is amazing, it is about the drug.
No it's a drawing that Julian Lennon did in pre-school age 4, and Lucy was a little girl in his class that he was friends with. He showed the drawing on his friend to his dad, and John wrote a song about it. It is not about drugs.
Why would John lie about it? He’s written other songs that actually are about drugs, and he’s admitted it.
It REALLY was from a picture that little Julian did. When his classmate Lucy died of Lupus, Julian did a tribute disc to her for Lupus research and Included his original drawing.
That's what I believe too. John wasn't exactly a poster boy for integrity, but I see no reason to begrudge Julian the benefit of a doubt.
People’s ignorance is painful. The Beatles weren’t exactly shy about drugs being in some of their songs. Girl and Tomorrow Never Knows, to name a couple. So when a Beatle says they didn’t intend a song to reference drugs, they have no reason to lie.
@mark jagger Bollocks. You're just in denial. Mystique? How?
Brothers, if you think the song is about LSD then it’s about LSD it doesn’t matter what Lennon says
@mark jagger In the interview, he says that Happiness is a Warm Gun isn't about heroin, either. In the lyrics are the lines:

But, Lucy in the sky with diamonds doesn't spell LSD. It spells LITSWD, LSD is kind of a stretch no?
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. In track title songs in/the/with are never capitalised so they aren't part of the acronym.
No, at least in America this is known as titles of articles so you don’t capitalize coordinating conjunctions or prepositions that’s why USA isn’t TUSOA. You only take the capital letters for acronyms. Most words also known as short words (less than 5 letters)will never get capitalized in titles unless it’s the first word think: of, the, with, be, to etc.
(L)ucy in the (S)ky with (D)iamonds therefore the capital letters would = LSD.
Gracefully Wild no, but I was more making a joke from what I was always which was, " the song Lucy in the Sky with diamonds spells out LSD."
Which just isn't true if you take into count the whole sentence. Since, in English acronyms are stupid. Go ahead and look up a bunch of real acronyms, and sees that what they leave out and what they leave in is stupid. They only really do that so it makes a real word, and not gibberish.
P.s. Ask my dad who was a teacher in English, said that at most you'd take out " the " I'm the song title because it's a non-denominator.

While the initials do spell LSD, and Lennon is probably telling the truth that he had no idea, I found out that the lyrics (and the sound...pretty obvious) are supposed to reflect a psychedelic experience. He wrote them this way. So to the extent that drugs didn't influence the song, they definitely did.

Julian Lennon has also confirmed this version of the origins of the song- he said his friend Lucy died a few years back of Lupus. It’s possible that that was the origin and then John turned it into a song about drugs. Same with Happiness is a Warm Nun. That may have been the title of the gun magazine but there’s no way that song isn’t about drugs
