I go to my chemistry, because it is required. I pay no attention to my prof. When I get home I watch whatever the topic is that day ,here with Mr. Johnson. For all intent and purposes, he is my prof. WOULD NOT PASS IF HE WERE NOT HERE!
Dude you've been a staple of my classes since freshman year of high school and you're still helping me with college classes. You are the MVP of my science education.
You've probably just accomplished the hardest thing to achieve. You actually made science interesting to me and I finally understand something about it. Can I hug you?
Mr. Andersen thank you so much for this! I have my chemistry final next week and we are still learning a bunch of new things that we are getting quizzed on. You have no idea how much this has helped me. Your students are lucky to have you as a teacher. Thanks again!
I'm a college student with a Preparatory Chemistry final exam tomorrow and my professor sucks but you just made my chances of passing the exam so much better
I'm very thankful to you Mr.Anderson, i used your video while i was in college now i'm in uni still use your videos. Thank you very much and Happy very new year to you.
On the CO2 example, why would you draw the remaining electrons (on the O) diagonally around the O? Why wouldn't you just leave the pairs as two on top and two on the side? Okay...this question is worded really badly...sorry...does anyone understand what I'm asking?
I joined a chemistry class half way through the year with no book and no clue working on some sort of worksheet related to this. there was supposed to be a link i was to follow to understand it but the link the teacher provided was broken. I feel this video was immensely helpful and i managed to truck through the worksheet with this assistance. thank you.
that sad moment when my shitty chem teacher tried to do in explain this in 2 hours and no one understood but you did it in 10 minutes and i understand perfectly
omg wow, i watch this once, and i understood it all... it took me like NEVER to undertand what my lecterur trying to teach me.. THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!! god bless u!
around 3:50 you mention that helium can only have two in the outer shell and you depict it with two dots on the top of He, my question is... does it matter where we put it, for instance, if we put the pair of dots on the bottom instead is that still considered correct, and is there any other elements like that?
>.< However Hund's Rule states otherwise when drawing orbital diagrams and writing quantum numbers ("Electrons must occupy all orbitals within a given subshell singly before pairing begins") Sooo..I figure Lewis dot formula start with 2 paired then fill the rest if theres more. Otherwise/normally, they fill singly?
Actually as a teacher, I think it's great... I'm posting this link on my website. Why does it not bother me that this guy does it better? 1. I can learn from him. 2. My goal is for my students to succeed. If I'm not making the grade for them, I turn to other teachers for help all the time.
Shitballs I have a quiz tomorrow and my teacher taught this in a way where the electrons are organized in a different way than this guy's. She doesn't clockwise or counterclockwise, which apparently is wrong so I'm not so sure what to do.
Wait... this is a high school teacher or what? o.o; Either way, the awkward moment, when another teacher teaches the same thing as my professor in college, and teaches it better in 10 minutes compared to 3 hours. 0 - 0
He's right~ Electrons seem to pair first, then fill the rest. My chem book shows this as well for the Lewis dot formula. I guess don't take the video's literal translation of order, just the final outcome of the arrangement.
this taught me way more than what my teacher taught me, all he did was tell my class to print off 8 sheets of paper and do it and it counts to 5% of my final grade... and on top of that, he didnt teach us nuthin.
I wonder why this technique wasn't patterned to configure the s pair first, next adding one dot each orbital for p (one spin), and then pairing the p orbitals after 1 dot is in each (opposite spin)? Maybe that wouldn't work well for depicting molecules and compounds?
you just taught me what my teacher tried to teach me in 40 confusing minutes but with u they were 9:41 minutes of complete comprehension thank you so much. and that is sad the lewis guy story.
I really appreciate all of your videos - very well done! One correction for Lewis Dot method (cross-hairs) - single electrons first all around - does not correctly represent Group 2 elements like Calcium - all with 2 valence electrons in a PAIR in 1s2 orbital - paired NOT single. This exception should be noted like you noted Helium exception.
I have a question, why didn't you draw the lewis dot structure of H2O as CO2 (I mean for CO2, C was at the center and O at sides) for H2O can O be at center and H at the side?
thank you but at 3: 56 for HE why are both dots on top? Shouldn't one be one top then one on the side because you have to rotate? just wondering but thank you again so much!!!
Why do lecture instructors always insist on taking the long and hard route to explaining seemingly simple things like this as you so indicate with this video?? Thank you kind sir!
In my Chemistry class I need to be able to determine if the molecule is bent, trigonal planar, etc. Can I determine it from this method? All help appreciated. Thanks!
@AnnexedAlec He didn't show any lack of grammar. Thanks, often used alone. Very helpful, it was implied he ment "it". Chem is short for chemistry. awful isn't a weird word.
Can you teach my class instead of my current teacher..?
SO FUCKING RIGHT
*****
+Electrohead92 for real
me too 😂😁...he tought in a really simple and easy manner
SAME BRO atleast he’s less racist
He says thanks at the end but I'm the one who's saying THANK YOU lol
😂😂lol yeah ....
10 years later and this guy is still helping students through these videos, how amazing! thanks dude
Wtf... This is 10 times easier and better explained then my professors who gave a complicated formula
I go to my chemistry, because it is required. I pay no attention to my prof. When I get home I watch whatever the topic is that day ,here with Mr. Johnson. For all intent and purposes, he is my prof. WOULD NOT PASS IF HE WERE NOT HERE!
literally same
same here
lol it says Si Li C O N for the last row of the elements
Didn't even notice lol
Artificial Light thank you jesus
luisgallo you're welcome
lol
You beat me to it lmao
I've learnt more from this than i have all term
god, my teacher sucks at explaining this, thank you so much :)
Mr. Lewis deserves a noble prize
I'm ready to dominate my test tomorrow, thanks for this helpful video!
Thank you so much! This helped me a lot more than my chemistry teacher ever has!
damn I wish you were my teacher
Ikr, my teacher is terrible
I just understood more in a 10 minute video than I did in several hours of class. You just saved me for my exam tomorrow. Thank you so much.
thanks Mr Anderson you really put this in English for me!!!
Transition metals are just... weird.
Dude you've been a staple of my classes since freshman year of high school and you're still helping me with college classes. You are the MVP of my science education.
The STEM Justice League includes OrganicChemistryTutor and Bozeman
We'll be covering this tomorrow & I'm ahead of my game!! Thank you!
Well this is helpful you completely skip over the octet rule and all the other details which is can be very confusing.
You've probably just accomplished the hardest thing to achieve. You actually made science interesting to me and I finally understand something about it. Can I hug you?
Thank you so much! This was explained a heck of a lot clearer and a heck of a lot faster than my chemistry teacher
Thanks! You're really helpful.
Replace my chem teacher PLEASE!!!
You kinda left out how to determine which element goes on the inside and about complete octets.
2015, and still helping me with my current class. Thank You.
(agent smith voice) MR. ANDERSON!
Thank you so much!!! You are so much better than my physics teacher!!
my teacher explains this so fast one could barely understand
my teacher is like an awkshener
*auctioneer
great man thanks a loooooooooooooooooooooooot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone think of "Mr. anderson" from matrix lol
I have a test tomorrow this saved my life I understand it way better now!
gosh you are awesome !
Mr. Andersen thank you so much for this! I have my chemistry final next week and we are still learning a bunch of new things that we are getting quizzed on. You have no idea how much this has helped me. Your students are lucky to have you as a teacher. Thanks again!
Mr. Gilbert PepeHands
I'm a college student with a Preparatory Chemistry final exam tomorrow and my professor sucks but you just made my chances of passing the exam so much better
I've struggled with this for so long now, and you explained it to me in just 5 minutes! (I only needed the atom part) Thank you!!
I fuck with you bro thanks for teaching me this I’m happy for your success in teaching ✨💯👏🏾🔥
if only teachers explains this in language we understand instead of getting too scientific.
This helped a lot. Thank you
Now I understand! very helpful and greatful! bozeman helped me ace AP and hopefully I'm on my way with Chem.
u were the reason I passed AP bio with an A sir. now im in college studying for my chem final and remembering my roots
Excellent Videos! You give a perfect explanation!
I'm very thankful to you Mr.Anderson, i used your video while i was in college now i'm in uni still use your videos.
Thank you very much and Happy very new year to you.
Thank you. My teacher is terrible at explaining
Saved my for my chemistry exam. Never was able to understand these.
Mid term tomorrow and i am screwed with smells conservation of matter and this.
Thanks a ton super helpful
i find it funny he spelled out silicon with Si, Li, C, O, N
That was incredibly helpful!!
u r the BEST!!!! thank u very much!!!! :))))
Really Helpful! Poor Lewis..
Around 5x shorter than my classes
what about the different types of bonds?
When do you put the pairs on the side like 8:32? PLEASE REPLY
those are O2 extra electrons not bonded two the carbon atom
thanks brudda
So much more helpful then my chemistry teacher!
how to know when to use the double or the triple bound ?thanks
mr.Anderson you are a life saver
good job nice videos your and pro
Thank you so much! This was a lot of help on my homework, which my teacher didn't explain very well.
On the CO2 example, why would you draw the remaining electrons (on the O) diagonally around the O? Why wouldn't you just leave the pairs as two on top and two on the side? Okay...this question is worded really badly...sorry...does anyone understand what I'm asking?

Thank you so much! I have a make up test today and I was sick for like a WEEK, and so this really helped. You're awesome
Thanks Mr. andersen you help me pass my physiology class now im in chemistry still watching your videos
When writing the chemical formula for two elements together, does the element with the bigger charge go first?
lel get rekt you newbs
I watched this for school. It helped alot! THX
Thank! You explain it straight forward and to the point, which I understood better then the way my chemistry teacher did it.
Thanks! I've seen this in school, but its a lot more helpful watching it alone! Super helpful!
i feel bad for lewis
Excellent!!
Thanks
I like how when hes doing examples and the whole bottom row of elements spell silicon. Might as well just do Si itself lol XD
RIP Dr. Lewis
Thanks homie
Omg thank you so much! I have a big chemistry test and this helped me a lot!
that sad moment when my shitty chem teacher tried to do in explain this in 2 hours and no one understood but you did it in 10 minutes and i understand perfectly
super helpful
i like turtles
"Mr. Anderson, We've been expecting you"
WOW the elements at the bottom spell SILICON!!!!!!!!!!!! IS IT MADE BY PURPOSE?
