Nice reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL.
You already have all the info (and more 😁) you need for now. So I just wanted to emphasize how diverse they are, musically speaking. Being all their songs pretty much different from the others. So here is my usual vague advice: always expect the unexpected and prepare to be surprised.
So, enjoy your BABYMETAL journey and see you next time! 🤘🦊

You are absolutely correct. Babymetal has a lot of societal, or simply positive lyrics. Some people don’t get it, most; people love it. They can be hard, or soft, but always uplifting. 13 years and I’m a school kid. I absolutely love many Japanese bands, but I would have never heard of them, if it weren’t for Babymetal.

Good first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊You were not wrong, they started out as a fusion of Metal with JPop aesthetics ... and 'Gimme Chocolate' is one of the songs that really emphasises that fusion by smashing the two styles together rather than blending them a little more seamlessly (which you will find they are very much able to do as well).
They have many songs that are much deeper and so much more meaningful and most are structured far more interestingly - but some songs, like this, are just fun.
'Gimme Chocolate' is not typical of their work - and yet in many ways it is. It is the song that went viral and got them noticed, but that is mainly for the shock value and that it makes peoples' brains melt. It can go either way and is not the song I would recommend to anybody as the first thing they hear from them. I am glad that you are open to exploring more - you will struggle to find another song quite like it.
Also this is the official video, so the audio is from the studio ... BABYMETAL are so much better live (as I hope you will discover for yourself).
They have about 60 songs now, each one different to the last, they have songs in virtually every metal genre but will also mix and blend so many other styles and genres with the metal. Some songs are good hard metal, some lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between.
BABYMETAL are pretty much unique in that they invented their own genre and their own way of doing things. Do not try to categorise them as just one thing or to put them in any one box. You will not be able to predict them, just expect the unexpected. They don't copy anybody or follow the same format as nearly every other band (for a start they have brought choreographed dance to metal).
They are Su-metal (lead vocalist), Moametal and, since the start of April this year, Momometal (backing vocals, harmonies but mainly in charge of dance, leading the audience, getting everybody involved and joining in).
The third original member, Yuimetal, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. She had ongoing (and undisclosed) health issues.
After Yui left Su and Moa continued as a duo through to their 10th anniversary and a bit beyond, supported by 3 dancers (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) taking turns dancing in the third spot. Momoko was the only remaining Avenger from about March 2020 and was finally revealed as the official new third member on 1st April this year.
They started in 2010 as a sub-unit of a school themed J-Pop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin which was set up by the Amuse talent agency as a way to coach and train about a dozen of the most talented girls on their books in all aspects of entertainment (singing, dancing, acting, modelling, writing, stage management, TV presenting etc) with a view to their choosing how they would like to continue their career when they were at school leaving age (15 in Japan).
BABYMETAL was the pet project of one metalhead producer who was inspired to experiment with this fusion of Metal with JPop aesthetics after seeing Su-metal singing with her previous JPop trio and being very impressed with her no holds barred singing style and stage presence - she was only 10 or 11 at that time. He pictured her fronting a metal band and got his chance to work with her when her previous group ended and she joined Sakura Gakuin.
In 2013 Su would be 15 and would graduate from Sakura Gakuin (having the school theme it was for girls aged 10 to 15), but it was decided that BABYMETAL should be her vehicle as she furthered her career as a vocalist and should separate from the Idol group to go with her as an independent band in their own right.
BABYMETAL have gone on to become one of the very best live bands on the planet (and have won international awards to prove that is not just my opinion). Their big arena shows are spectacular, but they put on great shows every time, even in smaller venues and festivals as they tour the world where they can't always have all the special effects and flames etc too.
Early on they did not have enough budget for a live band and the guys in skeleton suits (called Babybones) who you saw in this video would go on stage just for show, miming the instruments to pre-recorded backing tracks (Su-metal's singing is always live). They were phased out bit by bit after it had been decided BABYMETAL would split from Sakura Gakuin, so a live band (I will tell you about them in a moment) played at a couple of festivals and the encores in some shows from October 2012. This video was filmed at the last big concert (Legend 1997 in December 2013 - the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday ... she was born in 1997, this was her birthday party) where the Babybones appeared - the live band (the Kami Band) came on for the last 5 songs. Yui and Moa were both still only 14.
They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. There are many people who have played in the Kami band as they all have their own bands or other commitments and they swap in and out depending on their availability, but the same hard core of about 6 musicians have played the vast majority of concerts and they are the ones you will see in most live performance videos.
The Kami Band became the full time support for all live shows at the start of 2014 and have been with BABYMETAL ever since - but only for live shows, they do not record the studio versions.
The Kami Band of the West - American musicians - have supported BABYMETAL in the more extended foreign tours since 2019.
BABYMETAL are best experienced live. Even they say so themselves. For another reaction I would suggest their first major event outside of Japan, one of the biggest metal festivals in the UK - and they were placed on the main stage in front of 50-60,000 UK metalheads who didn't have a clue who or what they were (and a few that did had only seen the 'Gimme Chocolate' video and thought it was a joke or gimmick and should not be there so had threatened on social media to throw bottles and boo them off stage).
They were aged 16 and just turned 15, in a foreign country where they didn't speak the language and had about 25 minutes, just 5 songs, to win this crowd over.
The last song of the set is 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (call it IDZ it means Bullying, No More, For Ever) live at Sonisphere UK 2014. You will hear what the crowd thought of them at the end.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey 🦊🤘🔥
Now they got a metalverse but that's a more recent era so highly recommend to just wait to get there but in case you wanna know, they already released 5 singles from the new album "The Other One". Last month they started live concerts at Sabaton's Europe Tour as a special guests and everyone is having a blast with this song, either you hate or love it, is a song with crazy amount of views and they don't wanna leave behind in any of their setlist.
Dance choreography and metal had never been seen before and they somehow managed to make it works creating their unique own genre called kawaii-metal, mixing Jpop and heavy metal along with many more sub genres and rhythms, you'll have so much fun going through this journey.
This isn't actually live sound, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. They have their own band called Kami Band introduced later on that same show and after that Kami Band become regular at live performance.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
    They are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 23.
*YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently.
    None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said.
This was in December 2013 at SuMetal 16th Birthday, the other girls had 14 yo and there was a big party you have seen nothing yet, wait for _"Babymetal Death"_
Some recommendations for next songs like:
    - _"Road Of Resistance"_ live in Japan official.
    - _Catch Me If You Can_ live at Budokan 2014 (you got a safe to react version with subtitles at GuilhermeCait channel) or...
    - _Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!_ live at this same live performance Legend 1997 in Makuhari Messe Japan when SuMetal is celebrating her birthday becoming a metal goddess queen and leaving her idol jpop form (you can find one at Gans Tomas channel under "Head Bangya" title).
You have more than 50 songs and still more to come. Amuse their label is very hard to deal so if you want to avoid copyright blocked you have *Babymetal Reactor Resource* channel you'll get full original clips of their best live performance with watermarked logo safe to react, look for "Future Plans" vid, follow instructions and you'll get all of them, upload the one with the logo for us and you can watch without it, don't worry for us we already saw all of them.
    See you next time! 🦊🤘🍫

This video is good, when it came out it was completely unique and got something like 100 million+ views on youtube; that led to them actually getting funding to get a real band and put together shows (they have a fascinating history / founding story). They took off, and are now immensely popular as well as arguably the best live performing band. If you want to continue with them (and I hope you do), I'd suggest you look for "Babymetal Legend 1997 Live" performances next - it is close to this time in their career (the lead singer was 16 for that series of performances, born in 1997 thus the title of the series). Headbanger, Death, Megitsune, Ijime,Dame Zettai are all great representative choices from that. It will also show what a year difference makes - a real band behind them, funding for the show, and a massive growing fanbase.

May I suggest the following from Babymetal
    1. The One (they have an English version of this song)
    2. Road to resistance (Live in Japan)
    3. Doki doki morning
    4. Catch me if you can
    5. Megitsune
There are many other songs. I'm a fan of this unique Japanese group... They are all grown up now as beautiful young ladies. BTW, expect the unexpected form them. 🙂
They also have some funny moments during live concerts.

The normal first time reaction to Babymetal:
    1. WTF?!?
    2. What the HELL am i listening to?!?
    3. This is kind of legit.
    4. Holy crap!
    5. Is there more?
On paper this shouldn't work. J-Pop vocals over full on Metal music, but with Babymetal it does.
And yes, Babymetal is very adept at mixing musical genres. They have a song inspired by Bollywood musicals, Shanti Shanti Shanti. They sing about papayas, Pa Pa Ya!
    Su-Metal raps in BxMxC.
They sing about going to their first metal concert, Headbangerr
They don't have a bad song.

Yes. Babymetal is mixing genres on purpose. Not just pop but the poppiest kind of pop. Japanese Idol.
Their very first music video it comes in like a children's song for a bit and then there an explosion and the metal drops. They come through the floor in a Diablo summoning circle. They then sing about a song about a girl getting ready for school. But with metal. If that doesn't say hey dummies we're doing this on purpose then nothing will.

Babymetal is very much jpop mixed with metal or the genre they created called kawaii metal, and any other genre they want to throw in the mix. This is definitely one of their fun songs and the one that really put them on the map because of the juxtaposition of it all. They are always experimenting with their sound, so each individual song is different. Some of their music lean more into the metal, others into the pop, some are more upbeat and others more melodic. My suggestion would be Light and Darkness Live SUBTITLED, uploaded by 'who?'. The logo at the beginning fades once the intro of ends, and the song begins.

    👍 👍
Understand that this is a fun song by them but is really very different from who and what BabyMetal is. You will find this out rather quickly if you choose to continue exploring the LIVE performances of these amazing young ladies.
    Information below.
BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old when the group began.
All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school/group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these for a start.
Karate LIVE at 2016 Download Festival in the UK where 60,000+ British metal heads sing along with the girls.
    Megitsune LIVE at Budokan 2021
    Syncopation LIVE
Yava LIVE with Kami Band intro at 2017 Fox Festival
Road of Resistance LIVE in Japan
    Headbanger LIVE
    Tales of the Destinies LIVE
Catch Me If You Can LIVE with Kami Band intro
At their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019) has officially become the third member.
Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles.
Good luck and hope to see you again.
