I was born in upstate NY, raised a Yankees fan... but when an 8 year old kid moves to the then-home of the Dodgers' AAA team, and begins his baseball journey himself... and 4 years later, some of the guys you've spent the last couple of years playing right in front of your eyes slay the powerhouse beast that was the 88 A's... I was Dodger Blue for life from that time onward.
I still remember seeing the Gibson walk-off in '88 in my dorm room and thought it would never be topped --- 36 years later and Fab Freddie proved me WRONG !!
@fred How did this top Gibson? Gibson was hobbling on 2 injured legs against one of the greatest closers of all time in Hall of Famer Eckersley. One's hitting power comes from one's legs, putting Gibson at the worst disadvantage, and Gibson fought several of Eckersley's great pitches. The pitcher here couldnt hold Eckersley's jockstrap and gave Freeman one right down the middle. Freeman said his ankle felt fine by this game. Gibson, essentially needing a walker and facing a HOF'er in his prime, was not topped by Freeman. I loved both performances though.
@@nysockexchange2204 I love both but yeah...Gibbie and the '88 Dodgers were supposed to be heavily outmatched by the monstrous A's. Luckily we had Orel as well, and that '88 WS was a fairytale ending.
Just listened to this montage of calls on Freddie’s blast last night... and only Joe Davis got it exactly right. He kept it to six words: “She is… Gone! Gibby, meet Freddie.” That’s all that needed to be said. Hat tip to Joe for knowing when to let the moment breathe-just like Vin Scully always did. Great announcers don’t steal the spotlight; they let us live the moment with the fans in the stands. The ones who ramble on? They kill the magic. Vinny was the master at stepping back, Joe nailed it last night, and most Dodger announcers get it. But that montage really drove it home. Thanks, Joe Davis, for keeping it simple and letting the moment speak for itself!
U forget that most of those announcer calls were from radio stations, so they have to be more descriptive for the radio listener than a TV announcer would. But agree with u about the TV announcer.

It bounced off someone and in the scramble a young kid sitting in the row behind us came up with it. Everyone was screaming, except the two Yankee fans sitting next to us. The kid started to cry but became an instant celebrity with everyone around us wanting to take pictures with him and the ball. I told him I was very happy for him and congratulated his mom and dad.
I was two rows behind you!! Go Dodgers!!

Iconic moment
In what ever language it was sweet 💙✌️
It's hard not to root for Freddie, I still wish he'd stayed in Atlanta. But it's great to see him do this.
This is why baseball is the greatest game of them all. 😊
"As it was on a October night, 36 years ago . . . " ❤
What a time to be alive!!! That was awesome!!!
As a Red Sox fan, go Dodgers
As a Dodgers fan, I didn't mind losing in 2018 to the Red Sox. They play fair, unlike the Astros.
No matter who hrs now has to do the Freeman Statue of Liberty 🗽
Kudos, MLB. This is the kind of content we love, thanks for your effort!
I was 9 years old when I saw Gibson's HR in '88. That amazing memory will live with me the rest of my days. Freddie's HR is just as magical.
I was 19 when I saw Gibsons HR also. I will never forget exactly where i was and what my dad said ....
I was 13. This is just amazing.

Yes it was Kirk Gibson without all those foul balls
Cool to see his dad's reaction in the background.
If your a DODGERS fan and his is otherworldly. If you are a baseball fan this is LEGENDARY. Most of us did not see KIRK GIBSONS hit Live. So this one is the hit heard around the world
for younger fans it's their iconic moment, especially with a Dodgers win in this series
I saw the '88 Gibson walk off and it was truly amazing --- but I fully admit the '24 Freddie walk off slam was BETTER !!
I remember right where I was watching the Gibson homer. Same for Freddie’s. Truly a amazing set of circumstances.

2 Years in a Row Joe Davis does iconic Game 1 walk off calls! I love baseball!
No one can quite replace Vin Scully...but Joe is rapidly forging a legend of his own. It's awesome to have him as our play-by-play guy.
I heard the AM570 call on the way home from work trying to beat the LA traffic. OMFG i almost lost control of my car I screamed my head off and lost my voice! Great freaking game! I hope for a continued great series!!
