Very good video, without all the unnecessary commentary which makes other video clips last forever. Straight to the point with helpful tips along the way. Cheers.
I've used a bunch of your videos for help in the past and never actually commented or anything but thank you for being awesome at these and for helping me get my car sorted. These really are great.
Thank you ever so much, a well explained video. My dog is sticking and not returning so I need to take mine out to see if I can release it. Your video has made this an easier job.
Top video. my starter just gone on mk4 1.8t. I have little mechanical knowledge but not afraid to get in and have a go. this video explains and makes it look pretty straightforward. top work my friend. you've probably saved me a garage bill.
Nice video mate. I'm hoping that it's the same on my 2002 Octavia. Same engine, so fingers crossed. If it turns out to be the same I'll give ya a holler back to let peoples know. Thanks for taking the time to do the walk through and for upping the video ;)
FWIW: On a NA MKIV ALH the procedure is the same but the two bolts holding the starter motor to the bellhousing are 18mm heads no 16mm. It's also possible to get at the bottom bolt from the top of the bay with the battery & tray removed. Thanks for the video, helped me sort it out in a parking lot.
Happy days, my starter is making a noise when I start the car. I'm an engineer anyway but, it's always handy to watch these things laid out in laymans terms. Thank you, I've subscribed.
Injoyed video, showed what needs doing to remove starter with not a lot of crap that needs left unsaid. Other how to video makers should take note Thanks
Superb job sir, I have learnt a lot of time saving methods of doing things your way👍🏻 Any chance you can do a vid on combating the squealing noise for the starter motor?
Many thanks. I'm replacing a starter on a 2006 Seat Ibiza 1.9 tdi and it's a similar procedure. There are slight differences, as to be expected, but I gleamed enough info from you to make the job worry free.
Hi need some advice The starter motor on my golf caught fire and has burnt the wiring around it can you point me in the right direction what the looms are called for a mk4 2003 Golf
I have a 2006 VW Polo. I am almost done removing the starter (all the bolts are loose) but I am struggling with the top bolt (screw). It catches against the gear mechanism (these screws are quite long). I have tried putting it in all the gears to check which one will give it the clearance but I have failed. How do I remove it? Thank you
Usually, the main cable leading from a battery to the starter is (+), i.e. positive while (-) is taken naturaly via bolting to an engine. Just remark - I do not insist it is so on every each engine/starter installation. Generally great and well illustrative video, thx.
Technically it's negative...say you for example a battery and a bulb with a red and black wire....you splice the black and add motor in between the two black wired you spliced...still makes a circuit all the starter is doing is completing the circuit
Just been given a 2003 caddy, its been sat for about 9months and its having problems starting! I've turned it over twice so I know I can runs. But then it just dies! I turn the key and I just get a single click and another single click on release? Do you think it could be a starter motor issue or would you check other things first? Many thanks
Is it the same process on a VW polo 02 plate. Because the car makes a screetching noise when it's started. VW forums say it has something to do with the starter motor needing lube. Great vid by the way
Thanks a lot for this video, I'll be changing my starter Motor soon since It's past it's lifetime and I am having trouble starting my car. One question though, can I remove it just without reaching getting underneath the car?
Good video but here Some improvements to it: 1.- the negative lead from the battery should be removed first (to avoid accidental sparks) 2.-the battery case has another bolt ( metric 10) at the rear back linking it to the air case. Notice its mounting and be careful not to drop it. 3.- the cables are held together with a plastic piece that is attached to an L shaped metal part screwed (13 mm) to the upper bolt that holds the motor ( 18 mm). Quite tricky today slip out. 4.- There is another bolt to be removed to release the air conditioned pipe from the starter motor ( they are linked by a metal part to the lower bolt). Be sure to use the appropiate tools as even not being a difficult job, can be tricky to unscrew some bolts due to lack of room.
Mate what would be the cause of a slow start (+4sec) when the engine is warm after a drive or the weather is hot (higher temperatures) - The temperaturesensor or the starter motor?
disconnect the temp sensor and when the engines warm start it without letting the glow plugs heat up. if it starts right up then fuel pump. it can supposedly be fixed by a remap, the hammer mod, and the hammon mod but the cause is the fuel pump.
hi.. what do you think.. is it better replace for a new?.. or some good is to fix.. i mean lubricate or what.. because mine is too noisy after start..you know what i mean.. thank anyway.
This guy always comes up with the goods. No beating around the bush just straight to the point . 👍🏻
Good Camera Angles and focus control, the mechanic gets right to the task at hand. Much better than many videos, thanks mate!

I would think that using a 6 inch extension and possibly a swivel socket or even a regular socket would allow you to keep from going under the car
If I remember I did use a swivel socket.

Another 1 of your videos saving me 100s in labour.. cheers man

My car has stopped cranking so I'm hoping this is the fix. Great vid as always
it was great and simple to follow but what is the actual socket size to remove the final two bolts? I've been out and bought the wrong ones
Awesome video man, helps out alot!!
Injoyed video, showed what needs doing to remove starter with not a lot of crap that needs left unsaid. Other how to video makers should take note Thanks
That was by far the best vid I’ve seen, something white slid under the car would make it even clearer for filming. Thankyou. I’m off to buy a starter.
Glad it helped
Good work man, keep it up!!!

Many thanks, help me a lot and I could take it of and change it. Many thanks again for your sharing.

Thank you man From South africa
Brilliant video mate.
hiya mate, wanted to ask you if a starter motor from a DSG golf would be the same as a manual golfs? thank you.
apart from the placement of the battery tray and air box, how different is this to the mk5 golf

Great video dude!
Superb job sir, I have learnt a lot of time saving methods of doing things your way👍🏻

Great video, thanks
Excellent video editing and explanation
Glad you liked it!
Is there anything else attached to the starter motor power wire that is connected permanently to the battery terminal?
Is it the same process on a VW polo 02 plate. Because the car makes a screetching noise when it's started. VW forums say it has something to do with the starter motor needing lube. Great vid by the way
Thanks for this video
this helps thank you
Is this the same Procedure on a 2007 Audi A3 2.0t
Is that same like in passat 2.0petrol 2002 ?
Thanks for that!
Thanks a lot for this video, I'll be changing my starter Motor soon since It's past it's lifetime and I am having trouble starting my car.
One question though, can I remove it just without reaching getting underneath the car?
Would this be the same on 1.9 bug??
It may be a black cable, but it is connected to the battery positive terminal (not "negative terminal").
Good walkthrough though!
thnx for the "how to do" well done!
How did you move the loom mine is swear is stuck
Sooper video but one request which spaner removing time using pls tell &show.. All the best dear....
Question, is that the similar steps for the base model mk 6 2010 golf
It really depends on your engine, but in general they are mostly the same.
Hi is this the same on a 1.9 tdi bxe vow golf thank u great vid
thanks mate!
Thanks man 👍
Thank you, i was puzzled how to get the solenoid wire off, its a clip.
This guy definitely had a joint before he narrated this video, still incredibly helpful though!
