Taking The Mt Kosciuszko Summit Walk To The Top Of Australia - [ 2228mtrs ]
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 бер 2021
- My Mt Kosciuszko summit walk began down in the Thredbo village.
From ground central, I hopped on the chair lift to take me up to the highest access point to begin the Mt Kosciuszko summit walk.
Once you get off the chair lift, the walk begins along a well constructed steel mesh walking track at around 1500 meters above sea level. The Mt Kosciuszko summit is at 2228 meters above sea level, and is the highest peak on main land Australia.
From the top of the chair lift to the very summit of Mt Kosciuszko, is about 6 ks each way.
The walking track isn't overly steep, but it is a very constant gradient all the way to the summit, and it does require a fair amount of fitness if you are planning to take the walk up.
Once you reach the Mt Kosciuszko summit, the 360 degree views are totally breath taking.
I highly recommend taking some food and drinks in a back pack for your walk and having lunch at the summit while enjoying those amazing views.
Once you have spent enough time on top of Australia, you make you way back down the Mt Kosciuszko summit walk to the chair lift and enjoy the ride back down and give the feet a rest. Lol
Beautiful views..spectacular..😀👍thank you for sharing this incredible video clips
Thanks heaps for your feedback. The walk to the summit of Kosciusko is well worth it.
Cheers Tim

G,Day Tim. So simple yet so entertaining. Love them mountains, thanks for the memories.. Cheers Mate ..
Gday Kevin,
Thanks mate for your reply and feedback, I greatly appreciate it.
It’s a great walk up to the summit.
Cheers Tim
Gday Kevin,
Thanks mate. It was a top day climbing to the summit of Mt Kosciusko
Top day.
Cheers Tim
Thought a fit young bloke like yourself would walk to the summit without taking the chairlift !! When I did it about 20 years ago with my son in December there was a cold snap the day before so we were lucky enough to walk it on a similar day to yours but also had patches of fresh snow around the summit and particularly around Lake Cootapatamba.
A look around the Snowy Hydro Scheme, especially the underground tours, is also a must see for anyone visiting that area.
As usual, another enjoyable and well put together video. Thanks again.
Yeah the full walk up would be a nice day out. But, im thinking the chairlift ride would be a bit more fun and take in the amazing views.
Seeing snow on the mountain would be the best.
Thanks heaps mate for your feedback.
Cheers Tim.
Hey Tim , top vid mate , the misses & I did the walk to the summit from where your car was parked 28klm return, never again 😂
Gday Adam,
Mate that’s a massive walk to the summit and back.
Chairlift was the go. Lol
Thanks mate for your reply.
Cheers Tim.
How good are GoPros eh Tim 🙂 opens up a world of filming. Must have been up just before the big wet? Did this a week ago and it was drizzle all the way up and sleet all the way down! Not quite the lovely walk you got but epic anyway. Amazing how many folks were out there not prepared for weather changes.. gotta pack for any eventuality even on a short walk like this, mountains are so variable. You show the place off well Tim.
G'day David,
This trip was in early March.
The weather i had was amazing that day.
The temp at the bottom before getting on the chair lift was very different at the summit. Quite a few degrees cooler, thats for sure.
Thanks mate, i appreciate your feedback.
Cheers Tim.
Enjoyed that Tim thanks. I did Thredbo ski tube railway one June and boy what a difference a thousand feet or so makes . At the top station total white out and at the base village lively and calm with a snow covering- marvellous part of Australia
Gday mate,
Yeah a bit of elevation can make a big difference to the weather and temperatures.
Thanks for your feedback.
Cheers Tim.
It really is beautiful up there. Thanks for showing us. 😎
It sure is stunning up on the top.
It’s a walk well worth taking on.
Thanks for your reply.
Cheers Tim.
Awesome stuff Tim. Health won't allow me to do it myself, so living it through you is great. Loved the views. Cheers mate.
G'day mate,
Thats a shame that you cant make the summit walk.
Thanks for your reply and im glad you enjoyed my trip up.
Cheers Tim.
Another beauty! Thanks again Tim, you're such an inspiration! Will do this trip soon.
Mate, it is so worth the trip up.

Looks so different without snow! Never seen it like that. Another destination for a future trip outside of the snow season🤙
Yeah, it would be amazing seeing that massive mountain covered in snow.
Either way, it’s a great day out up on the summit.
Thanks for your reply.
Cheers Tim
Cracking views mate
Well worth it. Great video as always. Thanks Tim.👍👍👍
Yeah mate, cracking views alright.
Stunning day out.
Thanks for your feedback.
Cheers Tim.
You chose a nice day for the climb,I wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity when I was there, but that day was thunder and lightning, lots of wind, and a fair bit of snow still hanging around for me to keep slipping over on,nearly no view. But still an awesome outing 👍
Now that I’ve seen your video,I can see what I didn’t see when I was there.Best wishes Tim🙂
G'day Wayne,
Yeah mate, i did have a top day for the walk up in the weather i had.
Pity you had the weather that you did, but seeing snow around would be great.
Thanks mate for your reply.
Cheers Tim.
Well made video Tim. Those views did look amazing.
G'day Hamish,
The views from the bottom and right to the summit are amazing.
Well worth going up for sure.
Thanks mate for your feedback.
Cheers Tim.
While the US has some truly awesome natural wonders, I have always wanted to visit Australia. I am unlikely to ever make the journey, but through your amazing videos I can get a sense of what I am missing!
We have some lovely scenics in Aussie land but I was lucky pre covidt to visit USA. As a percentage of land mass the USA has far more National Park area than Australia and you have some of the world's best trails like the Pacific Crest.
@@Electrotract The canyonlands of the southwest are my particular favorites, but the Yellowstone area makes a close second.
@@gail-sw9xg Yep truely awesome, I travelled on all the Amtrak long distance trains and the scenic diversity is incredible.
I lived there for 3 years ,and I seen alot ,some beautiful places ,but Australia win hands down for the beauty of our whole country ..
Come on over. You can do it
That chairlift looks the goods.👍
G'day Shane,
Yeah mate, it's a great way to get up the mountain.
Stunning views.
Cheers Tim.
Gees, I haven’t been there for 30 years! Thanks for the memories!
Yeah i was just a bit longer than that since my last trip up.
Great day out.
Thanks mate for your reply.

I’m about to build a camper trailer. I’ll get back there soon. You pick some bloody nice places to film!
@@The_Stoic_PhilosopherSH Thanks mate. You have a great trip when you get out next.

G'day Jamie,
We are very lucky what we can go and visit.
The walk up to the summit of Kosciuszko is a great day out.
Thanks for your reply mate.

Funny I remember when one could drive up to the top, how this world is changing, good video mate
Yeah righto.
You cant even drive part of the way up.
Top day out.
Thanks mate for your reply.
Cheers Tim.
Thanks Tim, The wife and I were going to do it this summer, but La nina put a stop to that, hopefully next summer we'll do it.
Yeah cool mate.
I hope you both can get back next summer. The trip up to the summit is well worth the walk.
Thanks for your reply.
Cheers Tim.
well done Tim, conquered Kosy a few years back. Ironic that it doesn't seem any higher than the hills surrounding, but still worth it none the less
Thanks mate, it's a great trip up to the summit and great ti finally get back up again.
Yeah, its pretty flat right across the top, then the Kosy summit stands above it all.
Thanks for your reply mate.
Cheers Tim.
Great clip Timbo! Kaz and I loved it up there a few weeks ago ( when we were supposed to come see you lol) joys of covid. Our clips still a while away. Cheers Steve
Hopefully you can get back down this way again soon now borders are back open.
See you guys some day mate.
Cheers Tim.
Great video! Thank you for sharing. When did you go? It didn't look busy and was like you had the park to yourself.
Yeah it was a couple of years ago.
Great trip and well worth the walk up.
Very quiet when I went.
Cheers Tim.
We were going to do the summit walk this Easter but one of our friends pulled out due to a operation and we all want to do it together..... looks like we will do it in spring now... looks awesome tim. Thanks for showing us.
Gday Mark,
Ahh that’s a shame mate.
I hope your friend recovers soon so you can head up Mt Kosciusko.
It will be worth the wait mate.
Thanks for your feedback.
Cheers Tim
We all agreed that if she cant then we wont because its just what we do.... thanks tim she’s doing fine. I cant see the mountain going anywhere to soon.. lol

That’s it mate.
Kosy isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Lol.
Great video mate.

WOW what a trip......Epic 👍..But how was that first stubby..
Thanks mate. It was a ripper trip through stunning country.

Added to Google Maps Saved Lists. 👍🏽
It’s Well worth saving.
Cheers Tim.
Hi Tim, loved your video. Just came across your channel. We just walked to the summit for the first time, from Charlottes - over Main Range. It was spectacular! I was keen to see what the Thredbo side of the walk was like. So thx for sharing. If your interested in our walk you are welcome to see it on our channel (Ep 5 - the walk starts at 4:45mins) 🤙
Thanks mate it sure is a great walk, very enjoyable.
I might check it out mate.
Cheers Tim.
Your living the dream, I'm a little jealous ha
Im trying too.
It was a great trip.
Cheers Tim.
Love the video, I was wondering how expensive parking and the chair lift is?
Gday mate.
Parking was included in my Kosciuszko National Park pass.
Chair lift was about $25 return.
It’s well worth the trip up to the summit.
Cheers Tim
My partner and I just did it over Easter. We did Merits track and Charlotte's Pass on the Sunday. Weather was totally different from your video! Quite hostile in comparison. We went up a third time on the Easter Monday using the Chairlift coz by then my feet were beat 😂
G'day mate,
The views from the summit are amazing.
I did get lucky with the weather the day i went up.
I must go back some day, it's so worth the walk up.
Glad you both had a great trip, even if the weather wasn't ideal.
Thanks for your reply.
Cheers Tim
@@timbates4wdadventures
We were late to Summit (around 4.15pm) so no one else was in sight anywhere on the mountain and visibility was only about 7-10 meters so we got no sights haha. There were pockets of calm weather on Charlotte's where it was breathtaking especially walking along the edge of one of the mountains with the blue lake directly below. The physical challenge and mild anxiety of being the only people on the trail in poor weather added to the memories and experiences and the Barry Way drive in a sedan was the cherry ontop to a super weekend. Anyone with reasonable confidence and fitness to hike for 7-8 hours should do it for the rewarding feeling! Great video, makes me want to come back in summer
@@DutyFirst hard to imagine having no one else on the mountain.
It was packed when I went up.
Barry Way is such a great drive.
So scenic as you drive along.
Hope you get back in summer for the views.
I did it a few years back i just remember as you walk to the top as it winds up getting smashed by icey cold winds on one side then sweating on the other side with the wind block
Yeah it was a bit like that the day i walked up.
A bit windy on one side to no wind at all on the other.
Great day out though.
Cheers Tim.
Thanks for that video Tim definitely on my bucket list. Can I ask tho the track is that metal grill boardwalk the whole way up? My wife is recovering from a broken ankle and needs steady surfaces. Cheers!!
Gday mate,
The metal grate path is all the way apart from the last 900mtrs.
It’s on a wide gravel track that takes you to the very summit.
Hope you guys can get up some day.
It’s a top day out.
Thanks for your reply.
Cheers Tim
Hi Tim, enjoyed that! When do you reckon is the best time of the year to go there?
Anytime from December until late April would be great times.
After that it's starts getting into Winter and full on snow season.
Thanks for your reply mate and i hope you get to check it out some day.
Cheers Tim.
Great Video Tim.
Absolutely on the bucket list didn't know about the chair lift & the hike.
What costs are associated with doing this ?.
Gday mate,
Thanks mate.
The chair lift is $45 for a day pass.
Plus you need a National Parks vehicle pass of $17 per day.
It’s a great day out and stunning views from the chairlift.
Cheers Tim
Hi Tim thank you for posting this one reminds me of 1996 my wife and I did the walk from Charlotte pass 26 k walk took us 8 hrs we were stuffed but well worth it
unfortunately she has passed away recently so I might have to follow your solo foot steps and do the chair lift short cut one day
cheers mate but do you find it lonely on solo trips
G'day mate,
It would have been unreal walking to the summit back in 96.
Sorry to hear about the passing of your wife mate.
I hope you can go back some day and take the walk to the summit again.
The ride up on the chair lift is very relaxing.
No, i do enjoy my solo trips. Just myself to think about and make up my own entertainment.
Going away with a bunch of mates also makes a great trip.
Thanks a lot mate, i appreciate your feedback.
Cheers Tim.
another one for the bucket list , Tim... tell me , what's the cost of the chair lift and is a national parks sticker required to prak at thredbo ????
G'day David,
The chair lift is a day pass and it was $45 and you also need a vehicle pass to get into the Kosciuszko National Park, that pass is $17 per day.
Hope that helps mate.
Cheers Tim.
Looks like Yorkshire 💪🏻😉
Ahh righto.
Sure is amazing country.
Cheers Tim.
@@timbates4wdadventures Sure is mate, and that was a compliment 👍🏻😁 Stunning landscape 🙌🏻
Yeah mate, stunning country from the top.
Another great vid Tim! How long did the walk end up taking you from the chairlift return? (If you didn't stop to film so much?)
Gday Geoff,
The walk up took me an hour.
Took my time on the return walk.
Such a great walk for both ways.
Thanks mate for your feedback.
Cheers Tim.
@@timbates4wdadventures Ah your a good egg Tim, thanks for the quick reply mate!
Heading up there tomorrow with missus, everything we have read is saying 4-5hrs 🤷🏻♂️ ( was abit worried about timing as we're still a couple of hours drive from there at the moment )
@@MynameisGeoff82 yeah they do say to allow 4-5 hrs.
Depends how quick you walk it.
13ks return.
You have a great trip up to the summit mate, it is so worth the walk.
Cheers Tim.
@@timbates4wdadventures well you definitely got the pick of that day when you went mate, today started not so bad but then the storms rolled in as we were getting back to the chairlift, which was temporarily closed due to lightning 😟 so we opted for the 4km hike back down, as we got to the bottom the bloody lift was running again 🤦🏻♂️
@@MynameisGeoff82 gee mate. That’s full on weather that you had.
Walking back to the bottom would be full on.
What time of the month did you go? Can tell the month please?
Sorry for the late reply.
I did this trip in early March 2021.
Cheers Tim
When did they stop you from driving up ??
Im not sure mate.
I don't remember the days when you could drive up.
Cheers Tim.
Only 7.59 minutes? Where's the rest? Hahahaha
Awesome video as usual Batesy.
Hahahah Lol
There's only so much you can show between a chairlift ride and a 6k walk to the summit. Lol
Top day out though.
Thanks mate for your reply.
Cheers Tim.
Top views from the roof top of Aus good filming as usual Tim felt like we were there didn’t recognise you without your signature hat
G'day Peter,
Yeah mate, the views are stunning in every direction. It really is a top day out.
Hahah I thought the wind at the top would be blowing, so the Akubra had the day off. Lol
Thanks mate for your feedback.
Cheers Tim.
Does it count as summiting if you take the chairlift?
It did for me.
If you want to walk from the bottom, you can.
Have you done the trip I did before?
Cheers Tim
It wasn't a mocking question, sorry if it came across that way... just a genuine question about the seven summits and if it still counts if you don't do it from the bottom? haha...
I did the route you did in 2004 when I was 14... I'm going back in April and was wondering if I could save myself 8km... and it still count... loved your video@@timbates4wdadventures
@@mitchelljack1590 that’s cool mate.
I didn’t do it to take on the seven summits.
Chair lift is a great option to enjoy the ride and the views.
You have a great return trip.
Cheers Tim
I drove to the very base of suummit with my wife and daughter in a VW beetle in 1972 walked a couple hundred yards from car park up to the summit how things have changed.
Gday Jake,
Yeah righto.
Sure can’t drive up now.
Times sure do change.
Cheers Tim
The ol pie' n' sauce on top of Kozzy would have topped it off
Haha 😆
If I had a way of keeping it warm. That would have been gold.
Pie n sauce on top of Australia. Lol.
Cheers Tim
Not bad at all. And you don't even need a 4wd to visit and Chuck some $$$ into the local economy there.. great idea..
G'day Shane,
Yeah spot on mate.
Only need a couple of feet and away you go.Lol
Really nice walk up.
Thanks for your feedback mate.
Cheers Tim.
Far too many people up there for me, I like it quieter
Yeah it was a pretty busy day for people heading up to the summit.
Still a top day out.
Cheers Tim
Shit! It’s Jason Sratham!
Who's that?
Cheers Tim
That is not a walk to the top, what’s with the chair lift!? Hahaha
Chairlift is only a very small part of what’s required to reach the summit.
The rest you have to do on yep feet.
Cheers Tim
So you can,t drive up there any more ,what about people who can,t walk more than a few hundred metres ,bloody NP shutting every thing off it,s BS .
G'day Andrew,
Yeah mate, you cant drive up anymore. It does make it really hard if you cant do the walk up.
Thanks for your reply mate.
