Really enjoying the feedback from everybody! I definitely prefer the 3300. My main goal for this video was to show that if you don't have access to a 3300, the 550 or something similar could definitely get the job done. Keep the comments coming!
This is great thanks... listening on some premium cans and I was totally taken aback by how smoooooth the Leslie is.
Both versions sound great imho. But that the Nord Leslie simulation sounds as good as it does through a standard Roland keyboard amplifier is extremely impressive. Thanks for posting this demo, very informative. Great playing btw...hands raised in praise.
You are a very blessed and accomplished musician. Respect!
Very appropriate, as I’ve owned a KC-550 for years now, but am thinking of getting a Leslie 3300.
What a coincidence that you would choose to compare the 3300 to the actual keyboard speaker I own.
The Leslie simulator in my XK-5 is decent, but I know I can do better.
Thanks for the video.
Me too
They both sound almost alike. The Leslie is more smoother
Came here after searching for some Nord videos to compare the sound vs my Hammond sk2. Took me to church doc! Thanks for sharing the comparison and the angelic sounds!
Congratulations on your new setup. May I recommend you adjust your Leslie's ramp up and slow down rate on the back control panel. Here are 4 small screw knobs. That way it would sound closer to a vintage Leslie with the horns rise and fall speed a bit faster. Other than that, great sound!
To me they just sound the same. I would take any of them. Great demonstration man. You play very well! I am inspired! Keep up the great work. God bless you.
I feel Sunday morning in the chords!!!🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
The Leslie 3300 has a nice warm sound
Ah, that Leslie sound! Nothing else quite like it. And the acoustic difference is immediate. It's such a mellow, pleasant sound. And thanks for the demo. Your playing is wonderful, and you're doing it in the house of the Lord! Bless you.
They both sound good. But the
3D effect of the spinning horn
& drum in the Horizontal plane
directly almost at ear level vs
the Roland's amp front firing
directly forward is a very different experience live &
Its the one thing we cant hear
In a 2D video ! As far as the tone and or the ramp speeds
go. Is a matter of settings boys
and girls , Ladies & Germs.
The Leslie FX coming from
the Roland is not a Part or a function of that keyboard amp
or any other brand of kybd amp or powered speaker cabinet.
If you do choose a powered
PA spkr cabinet try to buy a 3way speaker design you will
hear more fidelity from a 3way
powered speaker than a 2way
Model. Be sure to choose one that has at least a 15in woofer
and a horn type tweeter with
a 300 watt output. Its all about
the bass output you do not want
the bass to become muddy or
distorted in any way. This is
where the magic truly comes from its easy for any speaker
to reproduce the high freq.s
so if you cant crank up a powered speaker in the Store
where you are considering to buy your spkr cabinets.
Then make sure that you can return the cabinets you are interested in. The lowest note ever recorded was the low bass pedal note played by our much beloved, St. Kieth Emerson on the album by ELP / Tarkus. Get the Output level you need that
makes your lowest notes play
with no distortion. And you will
be, B3, bee a happy organist I can promise you that.
The Leslie sound he plays thru
The Roland keyboard amp is
Coming from the model of his Nord clone wheel organ. Which
is very nice and it will serve you well for many years until you can afford a real Leslie with Rotary Speakers. That alone may still not be loud enough
for you ? Sorry but it's the truth
I used to drag around 2 of the
760 model Leslies cabinets &
we still needed to mic them in
Order for the Organ to be in balance volume wise when the
others where also playing loudly. I believe this might not
be a huge problem in a church
one Leslie should be enough
volume for you to compete with
the other players in the group.
Besides most guitarist and bass players today all use much smaller wattage amplifiers then the monster larger amps back
In the day. They all had two large speaker cabinets many with 4x 10in or 4x 12in spkrs
In each powered by high wattage guitar & bass guitar amps. Good luck no were lucky
to live in a time when an Organ
& a Neo vent. Or many other Leslie pedals can sound great
the crowd has seldom if ever
heard the real Leslie cabinets
They've only heard what comes
from the mics that are picking
up the Leslies output coming thru the PA system. The Leslies
are there to curdle our milk as
we the Organist do get inspired by the Leslies to play our best
there is Nothing like hearing
that Air movement of the horns & bass rotors spinning up & down as we Kick, flip, tap, that switch to engage the chorale speed of a great leslie with a tube amp. Nothing like it any
where on this planet its as close to heaven as you can get.
Best of luck I wish we could all know the pleasure of owning a true Leslie & your favorite Organ
i have had many my Hammond was my favorite but I also loved my Farfisa, then my Yamaha yc45, then my Crumar Toccata,
Then my Kurzeil & Voce V5 module its got allot to due with how much cash you have to spend on gear. So i suggest the better you become as a player the more you can earn the more you earn the more gear you can afford to spend on your setup
or what our friends in the UK
call you Kit. Either way I wish you all the best and hope you can have whatever gear it is that makes your heart feel the love & energy you will find with a Leslie & a Great Organ sound
Think about it its been almost
80 yrs since the combo became the coolest setup you could have and after so many yrs its still the one thing we still are chasing after. A B3 & a Leslie, even if you have the best synths money can buy & the best Midi
Powered pile of gear all strung together we still want & need that Organ & a Piano and pianos are much older than the B3 we
Need it too. Theres lots of choices out there find a few you can afford abd get your ass on stage show the people what you can do with the gear you have it doesnt always need to be the most expensive gear in the world its your playing of it thats makes them come back for more and if you can sing too
Let it be heard for the live of God show the gift you have share your talent with the kids
that want to learn from you they're the next generation of us they don't need your last name to be related to us if they're musicians they're our realitves.
Be good play well be kind to all
BALLING … god damn y’all putting that money into that system.
Just bought the motion pro 145 with the 550 as the woofer it sounds very close to the 3300
Sounding good!
Love this. Great sound. Great work. Blessings. 👍🏻 👍🏻
I have the Roland keyboard amp and I think it is flattering for keyboards. No so much for vocals, but it has a rich tone that I like.
Those rolands are very bassy but lacks in the mids and highs
Great video, both sound great Leslie definitely handling it better sounds smother through the 3300P, also not sure if it’s just me. But sounds like you got more into it playing thought the Leslie..
Neil Nell I probably did lol I Iove that Leslie
They did a really good job on the tone wheel engine, but Roland struggled at some of the mid frequencies, where it can not give that 3d sound image. After all, the Leslie is actually moving the sound. If you where running a satellite speaker off the Roland it might harder to tell the difference
Thank you. Very helpful. They both sound great but the Leslie seems to add a bit of warmth, hard to put into words. I enjoyed your playing too.
Hi sir, does this KC 550 will work better using the Yamaha mx61? thanks!
The Leslie is the game changer
I'm a leslie man and I love the leslie sound
You’re so COGIC but I love it fam. COGIC born and raised myself. I would go with the Leslie 3300.
Very nice in comparison. As a gospel church musician I know where to go to if I can't get a Leslie right away.
Great is your mercy
The Leslie is more warm
This is very helpful I am in the process of buying a Nord C2D and was debating whether or not to get a Leslie or not
Brandon Everette get the Leslie
Sounds good in both. I wonder how close it would sound if the Roland was in stereo. The Leslie is throwing the sound around the room as stated. I would think there would be a similar effect if the amp was in stereo. The Roland does have a tighter sound because of the direction.
Funny, I'm listening to this video through a pair of KC350s, which do a decent job, and the Leslie 3300 sounds better.
Both sound awesome friend
i like the kc 550 it sound more volume and clear that what i hear 👂 in part of end
I heard the difference the leslie give more sound mid and highs
I wish you could play the EXACT SAME SONG with the SAME SETTINGS for both ROLAND SPEAKER and the LESLIE 3300. Can you do another VIDEO
I've been using the on-board Leslie on a Hammond XK-1 , with an interesting seteup that makes a huge difference.
In order to achieve a closer match with a single real Leslie , You must run the simulators in stereo !!! But which amps ....???
Now that's something you have to experiment with .
I use 1 older Peavey 300 Keyboard amp spread apart from another Peavery 300A .
The older Peavey has a warmer sound, with fuller bottom ....
The newer 300A has a hotter midrange than the 300 ...
But setup in stereo gives me an Ungodly realistic sound .
And it's totally tweakable with slightly different sounds emerging from the 2 amps.
It also ramps up to 200 watts per amp to keep the drummer out of the way ....lol ....
But the ultimate trick for the best bass pedals:
I spilt off and added an old JBL 400 watt sub from my home theater for a floor rocking solid bottom ....
You don't have to push it much, but it adds that final clout,
In fact as much as I love a real Leslie, I prefer this setup .
The Peavey's are 3 channel amps ....
1 for Hammond
1 for Kurweil Micro Piano
1 for Korg NX5R Synth Module
Sky is the limit ..... Gotta try a Sub for realistic bass pedals ....
Definitely the Leslie 3300!
The Leslie has the slight edge but if you're just clubbin and most places are small the 550 is gonna do the job just fine.....
Great playing!
Honest opinion the Leslie was much “beefier”. Roland actually exposed the high and mid range a lot better. However....that Roland is designed to throw the sound probably one direction (right at the camera in this case) where as the Leslie is probably circulating the tone all over the building as it should. I’m sure it sounds better off camera and in person. Both both applications are fine either way.
Thanks for this video , is it possible to have both speakers connected at the same time ? For example have a Leslie right next to the organ and the line outs to the PA all playing at the same time ?
Or can you only get sound from one output at a time , ( either Leslie or line outs ) ?
AMAZING
Blessed hands ✋
Very different to me. The Roland brings out the highs much better and allows the Nord to really sound like a Hammond. The Leslie does not bring out the highs as well but has a smoothness to it that is not in the Roland. Just an FYI, I am bassist that uses a keyboard amp, a Roland KC-500.
I agree roland could get the job done if I had the budget I definitely get the leslie you need the extra push of the leslie in a church in my opinion would you know the price difference?
Thanks for the Video bro
U no there are some hardwood pedals that can run directly to midi BRO
Yeah definitely the Leslie
i’ve heard a lot of comments that the 550 makes improvements where the 500 lacked. which is great. i’ve also heard the 550 is insanely loud. is so loud i’ll barely need to turn it up ever? i’ve just been very curious about this. i appreciate any feedback at all
Great skills
I’m trying to find a good lessie amp of speaker to run my Viscount Legend any suggestions that are under 1k
I cannot afford a Leslie or Roland right now. Can a Peavey KB3 give an acceptable output?
Yes. A Peavey KB3 does give an acceptible output.
@@markrobinson3830 thanks, mate!
@@carlosperezbucio6628 You're welcome
Leslie 3300 alot fuller hands down!
Beautiful!!
3300 sounds better and is very capable of mimicking a vintage 122 Leslie sound depending the setting. I’ve had one for ten years now.
Hey bro that Nord sound good man it just like a organ
Leslie For The Win
I my opinion the leslie sounds best. A more soft and mellow sound..Not so sharp - more comfortable to the ear....
Leslie 3300 sounds good
If you warm it up
Love the Leslie 3300🙏🏾Going through the same changes at my church. I want that Leslie 3300 but with a Neo Venilator
Ok. Why would you want a neovent with a Leslie? The vent simulates what the Leslie does. As a matter of fact, the keyboard also has a Leslie sim. So why would you need or want the vent?
Yeah! Why would you need a neo ventilator with a leslie???!!!!
@@gospelsoulman I guess no one can answer the question?
You hear the difference Leslie has more bass you can feel it
Hello, can I plug my 3 keyboards and a mic to this? Then send the sound to the mixer for the outside speakers?
Yes of course
Thanks for commenting everyone! I realized shortly after making this video that the bottom rotor was not functioning. I fixed that and adjusted the speeds for the horn and rotor. I may do a new a video when I get a chance. Thanks for the feedback.
No competition? 3300
I really can’t tell too much of a difference.
Jasmine, yes it is. I think it would help to be in the room during the tests. You can’t hear in 3D through this recording. Plus I think his recording device clipped during the KC demonstration.
HOW IS THE FEEL COMPARED TO A B3
The action/keys are a little heavier but I like it. It doesn't take long to get used to but you will notice it the first time you play the nord if you play a hammond on a regular basis.
is the 3300 the loudest leslie? if so i need one for my church
Is the kc 550 clipping all the time or is it the recording device? Where is the noise coming from?
I want one of these
I definitely like the sound of the Leslie even though it’s the expensive choice 🤣
What make and model platform stand is the nord on?
On-Stage Stands KS7150 Platform Style Keyboard Stand
Leslie sounds alot better
I would rather have the real Leslie sound; but to carry 125 lbs and load up, forget it. I will stick with Behringer KDX 15 at 45 lbs. The rest depends on your expertise!
What is the name of that keyboard stand you are using to hold up that Nord c2d organ?
Looks like Konig and Meyer 18953.
Both of them sounds marvelous. If you play with both of them on, you would get the best of both.....the Roland KC550 for the treble and the Leslie 3300 for the bass. Try that and see how it works.
Mark, One potential problem with that:
I don’t think he can run the Leslie sim of the Nord through the Roland, without also sending it through the Leslie 3300- which would sound dreadful. He has to bypass the Leslie sim to play through the 3300.
If I’m wrong, please advise.
On THIS video, I think i like the Roland better. Yes the 3300 is fuller, but also duller than the Roland. and the leslie horn doesn't sound real to me....On this video.
roland makes a good boat anchor! cd2 is good the hammond is so much better!
Does this work with a 122 leslie?
No. The 122 is just for Hammonds. The 147 is like the 122 but universal.
Yes it will work, but you will need to make or buy an adapter for the cable. You can make any Leslie connect to any keyboard
Leslie makes you feel like you’re in church. The Roland is nice though.
How’s is the feel
Roland wins!!
Leslie
The Leslie is better by far both are not a c or B3 but will pass. The Leslie has a smoother softer tone Andy Rowland has so much mid-range bringing out the technology of solid state but Leslie is definitely 100% the better choice. I play a C3 all the time. I would love to be 3 though.
@Richard Martin Andy Rowland?
@@bigdenver7325And the Roland. You know a brother got big lips LOL. I was speaking into the phone dictating. It still has that mid twangy sound but I don't think that will ever be able to be removed from the sound a solid state.
@@richardmartin6744 My brother! 😂😎
Well, I have an A100 and would love a C3, lol!
Искажения звука в записи ужасные! В целом Leslie 3300 звучит несколько лучше!
I haven’t a clue what you said but I agree
@@bobvecchi7981 Вот здесь будет ясно без слов и даже без Leslie! Моё собственное сочинение! ua-cam.com/video/nxOrWn93kmQ/v-deo.html
3300 is much better
Sorry but for the same amount of money or much less you could have got a real Hammond and Leslie .. Aint nothing like the real thing !!!!
TI smith you are correct BUT I live in an apartment and I travel a lot. The nord suits my needs better. And I was lucky and paid WAY less than the normal price for both the nord and Leslie brand new.
@@JWRIGHTMUSIC Thats a different story .. If you are traveling then do what works best for you but I know a church that got something like this and they are not moving it.
I wish a lot churches would go this route instead of the real thing thing because they won’t do maintenance on their Hammonds
@@SKent1973 Its just not the same feel or sound and wont encourage younger players to start playing since most churches would have the real thing ;-] .. Hammonds are well built even when the maintenance isnt followed to perfection the organ still keeps on working !!
@@TheCallmety2 sometimes that the case but I've played some that was in such bad shape they needed to scrap them for parts.
