Ned technically nothing in the industry is “new” but to make visuals that are unlike any other visuals that we’ve been seeing in hip hop more recently, makes it innovative. “Innovative” can mean advanced, or to feature new methods. I think that is what Rocky’s visuals have been lately - better than everyone else’s that we’ve seen recently (along with Kendrick). I think he’s on his own wave. But I agree with the sentiment that people throw around the word “innovative” way too loosely. But I believe the usage in my original comment is still appropriate.

I feel like in order to understand or visualize Testing (an arguably experimental rap album) we need visuals alongside this music. When the album released it was underrated because of surrounding drama with Kanye and Drake. If he released a visual album with this album people wouldn’t shit on it as much. Beyoncé did it twice! If he was the first rapper to do it it would have been legendary tbh. His videos aren’t subpar, they’re very well thought out and cohesively made with the concept he’s formulated.
