This may be my favorite Chrysler film you've posted, OT. I come back to it a lot. Great camera angles, very informative, fun music, especially by 1:47--on. Thank you for posting and keep up the great work!

My favorite car was a 1972 or 1973 Plymouth Satellite Sebring 🙂 I love that car.

They were ahead in thinking but the quality wasn't there. Imperial was only the 2nd domestic car to have four wheel disc brakes standard, beginning in 1974 (Corvette being the first)

Sadly, back when the Big 3 started going downhill.

You’re right. I’m still a big 3 guy but people can’t be blamed for going to the imports.

Why Chrysler take Chevy Malibu's Body come off from frame mean test?

Where is the sound? I was expecting a talkie! Extra care in engineering could mean INCLUDING THE SOUND!

Were the Chryslers back then really as well built as they claim

Yes, in my opinion, yes. Others might disagree. My personal feeling was AMC and Chryslers had the highest quality. There were exceptions with the Dodge Aspen and Plymouth Volare of 1976 and 1977.

The engineering was tops. Lots of creative solutions. But there could be times when the engineering concept reflected a more sensitive solution than manufacturing tolerances could deliver. For example, the Lean Burn System of the mid 70’s proved problematic and needed frequent adjustment. Other components might have had a replacement frequency that was higher than other manufacturers, but they were very predicable. Power steering pumps (which worked very hard to deliver very boosted power), alternators, and water pumps expired at 70k miles, 80k miles and 90k miles, respectively, but they expired at the same mileage from car to car (at least in my experience); I could buy a part a few miles in advance and have it waiting in my trunk for when I needed it. But generally the cars were manufactured with more care than others. Especially the drivetrain. Also, by this time rust issues were largely solved in the big and mid-sized bodies.
And yes, I’m a fan boy I guess.

The build quality was a little higher than everyone else's. My father's 1973 Plymouth Gold Duster, for example, had a leak when it rained heavily, that filled the passenger side foot well. No one every found the source of the problem. However, everything else was superb. The interior was put together nicely; nothing flimsy. Torqueflight transmission never required maintenance in the 20 years he had the car. The air conditioner blew strong and cold. Up to the time my father bought that car new, he had been driving junk. The day I came home from school and saw that gorgeous car, I screamed and yelled all the way up to the house, I was so happy. Chrysler products were awesome then.

I drove full size 70s Chryslers all through the 90s when I had a travel job. Usually about 30,000 miles a year. Never failed to get home.

I haven’t had one go bad yet. I daily drive a 65 Dart. Before that, I daily drove a 68 Sport Fury. I think the biggest fault Chrysler had in the 70s was lean burn. Just my 2 cents.

Anyone have any stories and memories to tell of the 1970s
