(Born and raised Canadian, that knows way to much about food) 12:20 The reason why poutine isn’t in America is because Canadian gravy and American gravy tastes different and it doesn’t matter on what category of gravy, it just all taste different. Plus poutine gravy is a special kind of gravy. it’s a different taste then most gravy’s and it’s a fine line between thick and thin at the same time. Proper poutine gravy tastes like beef gravy but a little sweetened just enough to balance the salt of the beef, the tinniest bit of pepper to balance all the flavours together, it also has a very very faint taste of bbq sauce ( so faint that if your not looking for it you don’t taste it) and because you have to consistently wiske Gravy to make it right, the air bubbles add nodes of a creamy texture to the gravy. Gravy is an art form, Especially to get the texture right. Unfortunately a lot of restaurants don’t get it right but that’s why I always make it at home and many other Canadians do also. My mom always says what poutine has to have cheese curds and the best fries for poutine is shoe string fries but the universal fries for poutine is standard cut or natural cut. For those who are wondering, yes the cut of fries matters. The cut of fry will change the texture of the potato it’s made off. Standard/ natural cut keeps heat and moisture in which adds a perfect balance to the fry complementing the dish with out compromising on the size of the fry Crinkle cut are a little more dry texture but still is like the standard cut, just doesn’t hold as much moisture, which means your meal is going to feel alittle more Heavy then the standard cut but if your looking for something more filling without adding more calories to your dish this is the way to go. Wedges are a dryer fry and quite dense. So if you’re making a poutine with this make sure you have something to drink. Many restaurants that make this usually water down the gravy to balance the texture but it down plays the other parts that make poutine great and they tend to add way to much spices to balance it out and it doesn’t taste the same Waffle fries can be hit or miss on texture. You either get it right or not but because of how the fry reacts with the gravy it makes the textures weird and downplays the flavour of the dish. It makes it a little more bland. Shoe string cut is a crunchy and light fry. The crunch of the fry allows the gravy to get into the fry a little without making a mushy fry. Which balances out the texture of the dish and complements each other to make a more satisfying poutine. Curly cut you either like it or you don’t. It still is a good fry but personally poutine with this cut isn’t right for me. The curly fry makes the same taste as the shoe string but has the texture of an under cooked fry. So many people fix this by over cooking the fry but it still doesn’t have a consistent enough texture for a poutine in my opinion but is still a good option for most people without sensory issues There is so many more I could do but those are the basics that I can think of right now. Poutine isn’t just fries gravy and cheese. It’s a symphony of flavours and textures that is not easy to perfect, especially when so many people prefer different balances with in their dishes.
However, after a night out and you're one eye drunk but need a snack. Oven fries, pre shredded mozza and/or cheddar cheese and a can of gravy or packet gravy mix will scratch the itch.

'Bring them inside' is a meme. It's the part that comes after 'If you're cold, they're cold ...' and the meme is generally applied to an obviously wild or dangerous animal. It's making a joke of a PSA directed at pet owners intending to convince them to let their pets inside when it is cold out.
Got real hard to be a Husky or double coated breed owner for a while, everyone had to build a heated doghouse that would never get used and field accusations of neglect when the dog refused to come in. One woman had to erect signs pointing out the unused heated shelter and the dogs obvious comfort and requesting to be left alone. Lol, she was so done with the nonsense.
@@terramarini6880 Didn't know the details of it myself. I've never actually seen one of the PSAs. Could be that they don't show them in BC. Could be that I haven't watched cable/network tv in 20 years. Agreed about the silliness though. Yes, the animals that pulled sleds in Yukon and Alaska for weeks at a time are gonna be okay outside for a bit. Same with all the other animals adapted to living in such balmy environments. Which explains the power of the meme.
I went to the sugar shack (cabane à sucre) this week-end with family and friends. When you pass beside the boilers shed where they boil the maple sap to transform it to maple syrup, the smell is just wonderful. When your in the shed, it's just WOW! Then there's the maple taffy on snow (tire d’érable). Hot maple syrup is poured over fresh, clean snow. The syrup quickly cools and thickens, allowing you to roll it onto a popsicle stick for a chewy, maple-infused lollipop. You can't stop at only one stick.
Where i live in Canada the elementary schools have buddy benches. Its the same as friendship bench in that when someone sits on the bench, it shows that someone can come to sit and talk with the person so they dont feel alone or lonely
“Friendship bench” aka “buddy benches “… started in elementary schools for kids that were lonely. Moved to into high schools as well. Usually they were outside by the playgrounds . The idea is : If you need a friend to play on the playground with , just sit on the bench and wait a bit until other kids that also need friends to play with come to the bench too. Then those kids play together . So it’s a social thing .
Yep, Ottawa's old gaol (jail), built in 1862, has been turned into a hostel. You can spend the night in a cell. The ones on the top floor, death row, are super narrow. I had a friend who barely fit. He was big and tall and couldn't turn around without exiting the cell. They were restored as close as possible to their original 1800 conditions, except for the windows and heating and such. You used to be able to tour it as part of a "haunted walk" around downtown Ottawa, but as of last year (2023) the new company running the hostel decided to cancel their contract with Haunted Walks Ottawa. It's a bummer. It was a fun part of their tours.
Living on a houseboat means paying no annual land taxes, you pay moorage fees that can be equivalent to taxes depending where, but it’s usually a lot less.
The taxes pay for roads, schools, medical, mail delivery, libraries, sidewalks, policing, sewer, garbage collection & more. Those on a houseboat have a car and have/or had children in school. The only thing they are avoiding is having a front lawn or rear garden. So, they do not even have a piece of earth their boat is living on so it cannot be sold or subdivided or a bigger structure be placed there. Essentially they are POOR. Taxes don't take your job into account or your bank account. Never did, never will.

See how fast the pedestrians are moving...Also, our Winters have gotten so cold in some areas and with the destruction of so much natural habitat, moose, deer, small game etc frequently freeze to death now. Which sucks for hunters... (And animals) LoL
That first one... Canadian winters usually start out with a stupid-heavy snowstorms. Has to do with the air being cold but the lakes of water still being fairly warm. We'll end up with feet upon feet of snow in a fairly short time. That snow will usually be on the ground the whole winter. Once the lakes (most) cool and freeze the amount of snowfall drops quite dramatically. We still have snow, and snow still falls, but not in the massive quantities we see early winter. As for the drumsticks, you have to take into account they're in Costco. That, in itself, should tell you something because the store is designed for bulk purchases. You could see at least 3 rows in that drumstick container, so there's likely at least two dozen drumsticks in there. In addition, the drumsticks look butchered and already pre-seasoned. That increases the cost. I can go to my local grocery store and buy a bag of frozen drumsticks for $10, so it's not as crazy as they pretend it is. Milk bags are easier cut open with scissors, not that gimmick cutter he used. In addition you cut from top down on the corner which follows the seems of the bag, not sideways across the seem...

The reason why poutine isn’t in America is because Canadian gravy and American gravy tastes different and it doesn’t matter on what category of gravy, it just all taste different.
Standard/ natural cut keeps heat and moisture in which adds a perfect balance to the fry complementing the dish with out compromising on the size of the fry
Crinkle cut are a little more dry texture but still is like the standard cut, just doesn’t hold as much moisture, which means your meal is going to feel alittle more Heavy then the standard cut but if your looking for something more filling without adding more calories to your dish this is the way to go.
Wedges are a dryer fry and quite dense. So if you’re making a poutine with this make sure you have something to drink. Many restaurants that make this usually water down the gravy to balance the texture but it down plays the other parts that make poutine great and they tend to add way to much spices to balance it out and it doesn’t taste the same
Waffle fries can be hit or miss on texture.
So many people fix this by over cooking the fry but it still doesn’t have a consistent enough texture for a poutine in my opinion but is still a good option for most people without sensory issues
There is so many more I could do but those are the basics that I can think of right now.
WRONG....AMERICA DOES HAVE BEEF GRAVY...same as Canada!!
You're thinking of Southern White Gravy, you silly Canadian...fyi:I have duel citizenship..American/Canadian and lived in both countries and know more than most about the countries!
@@mypronouniswtf5559 Is right Chelsey, Americans know how to make a fine brown gravy, they have more types of gravy than us Canucks can throw a stick at and they all begin properly with a roux.

In Quebec City some stores do it year round on shaved ice.
I would say that just about every public bench in Canada is a 'friendship' bench. I've met a lot of very nice people on benches. :)
Buddy in the first video was just out for a dart
Living on a houseboat means paying no annual land taxes, you pay moorage fees that can be equivalent to taxes depending where, but it’s usually a lot less.
The taxes pay for roads, schools, medical, mail delivery, libraries, sidewalks, policing, sewer,
garbage collection & more.
"Give up" is not in real Canadians' vocabulary. That is what separates us from everyone else.

There are several fault lines across Canada. We even have a few volcanoes! Swaying is part of the way the buildings maintain their balance and absorb the stress.

The classic beavertail is simply brown sugar and cinnamon. This was something my parents and grandparents used to put on toast; but has now gone out of fashion and replaced by peanut butter and jam. Another classic my father likes is peanut butter and molasses (mixed together) on toast!
When we install moved to Ottawa, we had never heard of Beavertails. My brother discovered them first and had me convinced for almost a year that they were made from real Beavers! Now, you can find them in most tourist hotspots.
Beaver Tails are also called Elephant Ears in some places. And typically the topping is sugar and cinnamon.. though now other toppings are becoming popular

About the mountain rollercoaster: MINERS use that to go down the mou tain faster. There are a lot of them in Quebec.
Yes at some mountain resorts, even smaller mountains like Blue Mountain in Collingwood, ON there are go-karts on rails or in a half pike or luge type track with a manual control joystick to speed up, slow down or brake.

Yeah, in winter, if we run out of room in the deep freeze, we put some of it outside.

Fun fact. Our CN Tower actually does sway up to 7 feet in each direction when winds are high. Also, You can actually get video of it swaying just like that by recording it and then speeding up the video. See how fast the pedestrians are moving...Also, our Winters have gotten so cold in some areas and with the destruction of so much natural habitat, moose, deer, small game etc frequently freeze to death now. Which sucks for hunters... (And animals) LoL
that milk holder is next level!!!
I love to dip ketchup with battered fish sticks. Mmmmm
Guess this won't be a long-lived thing, considering the upcoming US TikTok ban.
