We wanted to move to Washington or Oregon and retire there, but after watching a few videos we started having second thoughts. You never mentioned anything about the drug, crimes including property theft and homelessness which are very concerned now.
Thanks for sharing. What is making you have second thoughts? Is it the drugs, crime and property theft that you are referring to? What area of WA were you considering moving to? Each area is going to have different statistics. Olympia is actually quite low compared to other areas. You can use the following link to look up statistics on different areas. My suggestion to people is to always look at the stats in the city you are currently living in or another city that you feel comfortable in, then you can make a good comparison of different cities. Sometimes the stats can make things look worse that they are but when you compare the cities with each other it give a better perspective. Hope that helps! @@cecesalas6216 Thanks! Funny you said Nebraska. Last night it was a 100th Year grand family gathering where our relatives from all over gathered. I met a gentleman for the first time who has married a close relative in their fifties. He said that he is a farmer from Nebraska. He has a 1,500 acre corn farmland and has thousands of cattle in Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho and a few other states! I never knew they could have cattle in other states and so many! He said it is a good place to live, but the towns are very small except for a few and could be boring. Where they live has a hospital and gets cold but not as much north. He wasn't sure if we would like it. I met two other relatives from Oregon. Basically they told me that the weather is gloomy most of the time and one couple moved back after four years, and the other family moves back in fall and winter and go back to Oregon in spring and summer. They thought about leaving Pasadena where I still can swim at the Rose Bowl everyday in an outdoor pool. Maybe we should sell our Vegas home and buy another house in Oregon/Washington. We'll see what to do. Thanks so much for your comment!
If you want to get "life savings" ideas in retirement - listen to those for whom that market niche is "the cash cow". If they operate State Wide - even better. Realtors sell your present house without a hassle - they find and buy your "retirement" home out in the boonies. No stress will appeal to you. Once you realize who exiting Wenatchee or Chelan are, that none of your other friends care to visit you and that you spend twice as much for airconditioning than you spent for heating - your friends - the Realtors will be there for you again - moving you - where ever your heart desires - as long as you are physically and financially still able to move.
great video, will look into using your team when we retire, we're still deciding if the PNW will be a good place to retire since we currently live on the East coast, but we will keep you in mind when it's time to make the decision!
Puget Sound resident here. Ferry service to the San Juan Islands is terrible, particularly in the summer tourist season. Reservations are a must. The only island with any real healthcare options is San Juan Island. It is not a good destination for retired people with chronic medical issues. Getting to a specialist requires ferry travel. Wenatchee and Spokane are extremely hot in the summer. Leavenworth is another primarily tourist destination. I don’t believe you mentioned Walla Walla, which is a beautiful town with a university. Much nicer for a retiree than Wenatchee. FYI for people in other states, there is no income tax in Washington but there is an estate tax, with an exemption amount of 2.193 million dollars currently.
Ask your friendly Realtor. The fact is - all small, isolated places have in common is that the "locals" do consider "foreigners" as intruders into their peaceful lifes.

I don't think they can mention stuff like that due to some laws about that since they are realtors. You have to figure that out yourself.

Indeed!

Sometimes there is more information in the comments than in the video.
Great video! Thanks.
Thanks!
I love Washington Garpes.
😃
How about YELM? IT IS THE PURPLE HEART CAPITAL OF THE NORTH WEST!!
Great recommendation!

Thanks for your input! Walla Walla was a consideration on our list! Great spot!
Tourist destinations all have one thing in common - they are for tourists. The only thing that works all year round is the tourist prices.
My Son lives in Olympia and my Daughter lives in Tacoma so hoping to retire in WA next year!
That’s great! One year will go by fast! We would be happy to help you when the time is right!😊
Gordy’s just closed……what a loss!!
I know...so sad! Our son lives in Spokane and he was able to go get one last meal on their last day.
Olympia and Spokanistan? my oh my...
Lol. Olympia wants to start an unrealized capital gains tax and give homeless people protected status.
Locals in Bellingham/Whatcom County will hate you if you move there.
