Appreciate the video - glad you had a good time with it. It was a fun experiment and group effort, think we all learned a lot during it and enjoyed collaborating on it.

also you'll probably like Tales of Kotor, which knabepicer led development of -- an elibean nights inspired anthology hack w/ the characters from CotA

Hey there! Member of the cota team (Ch13) and just wanted to say it was a delight seeing your review. I'm really glad you got so much out of the game and it's great to hear your thoughts on it. I'm glad the story worked for you despite being held together by tape.
Also as her creator it put a big grin on my face to hear you're a Josie fan! In truth I don't typically use est-y units myself so I'm really glad she worked out for you! Also wrt her lesbianism it was kinda done on a whim when submitting unit endings, but it is hinted at in her talk convo with Daisy in ch13, really glad you got something out of the choice.
But yeah lovely review, really made my day!
If you're interested feel free to check out Bells of Byelen, a thracia inspired telephone hack done by a team of mostly the same people as CotA, perhaps it'd be something you'd enjoy! Either way great to see a youtuber engaging with the romhack scene!

I normally don't like ests (I don't think I've ever used one before) but something about josie just clicked for me (the excellent mug definitely helps, and her unit design is just really fun). she's definitely tied for my favorite unit with Philip the pirate

I'm glad she did! I think her having a crutch in her prf helps her get off the ground while her growths kick in. Really glad you liked her though!

I would have been so disappointed if this vid didn’t mention the ch10 secret shop.
Ch10 in general is where CotA goes from “pretty neat” to “good lord what is happening” in scale. Killian prf/promo, daisy’s… lore, droppable tanks turret, the objective and the secret shop.
I love this hack and glad to see it get covered.

    Call of the Armor(ed Bow)
Honestly, I look back at the release of CotA really fondly for so many reasons. It was the first real experience I had in the hacking community, and getting to chip in (even just a little bit) to such a strong, high-profile project was just the best. Like, the hack, chief, it's good. 😎

So i came back here after... simply finishing the romhack.
This was crazy fun. So many iconic moments, characters, weapons etc. even when not many of them were fleshed out (then again i counted like 50 of them... It's very hard to choose your favourites!).
I like how theres high difficulty (relatively speaking, maybe im just a scrub) due to how nutty enemies gear and abilities get but you can get equally crazy things if you plan properly (buyable 10-ranged weapons for example!). I ended up near game with Daisy just killing near everything in her path for example.
I also appreciate how difficulty is not based on "every enemy gets brave type weapon" which was a little lame in other hack i played.

Yeah they literally hit the blue unit cap (50 is the cap without more advanced memory editing) and had to make summons green as a result haha

Call of the armor is peak replayability. The game plays very quickly if desired, but can be taken slow, and there is a wild variety of units you can get in the story, but in order to use them all or use certain units in every way possible you have to replay to get a taste of what everyone has to offer. What I find most interesting is that the game feels very balanced despite how wild it is, and how many different people worked on it.
Most importantly, the telephone story telling worked strangly well, from a comedy standpoint especially. The lore is super goofy, but strangely reasonable as compared to certain mainline games.
Man, I love this hack, one of few things that competes with fe6 for my favorite fe game.

I’ve never played a fe romhack but this one looks really fun!
And fun fact, Kuijia’s name looked like it was spelled in Mandarin pinyin, and when I looked it up I found 盔甲 or kuījiǎ, meaning “suit of armor”

Might give this hack a shot, though I'm still in the middle of Four Kings because life and other games keep getting in the way. Either way, great vid, keep it up!

Lovely recommendation, i just finished with my Drums of war brainrot and wanted another hack to play instead of actualy trying Sea of Stars.
Also, i would assume it must be already on your radar, but if not DoW is a great romhack experience, including lovely stuff like:
    - Actual well implemented 3 range bows
    - Recruitbable bosses that have you plan around on which characters to recruit and wich to capture for ransom
    - Fun map design with unique maps and objectives, incentivizing active and well planed play
    - A more grounded and realistic view on classicism, at least compared to mainline FE
    - A depressed doomer non - binary long-haired swordmaster
    - Actual canonical Lesbians ( That also are the protagonists and total baddies)
    - Chapter previews and some codex parts are diary parts written by the protagonist, giving world-building, time aknowlegment, character enrichment, and even little written sections showing her feeling and facts to every playabe character, showing their nationality, Age and even ocuppation.
    - Unique face shapes? In MY Fire emblem game? It´s more likely than you think.
    - Monster Est/Traineer/whatever with the most unique gameplay design i've seen on a Fe unit
    - Units in general have a nice design on them in general. Heck, even the early game Cleric that everyone benchs has a use to her, being one of the only 3 units being able to reach S ranks normaly, being able to use the rescue staff of the game.
Anyway smt smt Common Dani W.

the romhack 'Fire emblem: Absolution' is definitely up there, due to a LOT of unique stuff included, plenty of cool classes, a forging and cooking system in GBA, tellius style skill and scroll system, and a very cool story

You mention the growths of certain characters a couple times I think, there is there a list anywhere? Last romhack I played was Andaron Saga, and one of the absolute coolest things it did was show you the growths right there in the character screen.

    • @DaniDoyle
      @DaniDoyle  2 місяці тому

Most hacks show you growths on screen, this one included. Just an FYI in case you were not aware The creator of andron saga is a proud white supremacist and rapist so I would personally recommend avoiding his work (as it includes elements of both of these things)

@@auraguard0212convenience mainly. For example, if youre trying to bait out a tough enemy that you cant reach on your turn, it's easier to cross reference that unit and the unit you plan to bait them out with to make sure they survive without going into either unit's individual stat screen.
