Without question, it's Jason Heyward. Going into the 2016 offseason, he was the most coveted free agent, and the Cubs ponied up large, signing him to an eight year $184 million deal. Okay, the Cubs won the World Series in '16, and J-Hey was credited with giving "the Speech" that motivated them to win. However, beyond that his on-field stats were terrible! How many times did he strikeout, popup, or ground out to second base? - Too many. His contract soon became an albatross! The dollars were so huge and his stats were so bad that they couldn't get rid of him,. And I would say this hampered the Cubs in signing players, especially during the "losses of biblical proportion" years. Listen, he's a good guy. Great in the community and in the clubhouse, but as a player, he was a huge disappointment and hamstrung the Cubs lineup for too many seasons.

@@stantakvii Hey Stan! Did you get your prize, or at least hear anything further after being chosen winner? I won the day after you, but haven't heard further, other than the post saying I was chosen. Just wondering if I'm an outlier, or things are just going out slow.
I feel the most disappointing STAR would be Kris Bryant. After getting ROY,MVP & World Series winner, he showed such promise. But then he just broke down into pieces. Honestly thought he’d be a Cub for life
Zach Lavine hands down. Traded Butler for him and Lauri. Then got rid of Lauri to keep him and pay him. I was always a fan and thought he would take the next step. But all he does is sulk and make excuses when things don’t go well. He’s the definition of a diva. He’s still “good”, but not as good as he thinks he is. Lonzo was the perfect point for Zach, but we’ll never know.
Jason Heyward. Yes I am forever grateful for his contribution on the 16 team, but for what he was paid and what the expectations were he grossly underperformed. Made the Alfonso Soriano contract look good which is saying something
Zach Lavine because they traded away Jimmy Butler for him no leadership, inconsistent play, and all this is before the max deal the Bulls signed. Now he’s got his money a no show down the stretch in games. Plus he’s sensitive holding grudges from a year ago 1:16
Zach was not a bad return for Jimmy. We got Lauri, Zach, and Kris Dunn plus a pick for Jimmy. We needed to get rid of Jimmy and he wanted out. Zach is a sad turnout, but he has his high moments especially when we were at the 1 seed with Lonzo. Zach was probably your favorite player doing crazy dunks during that stretch. Lonzo was the key, and losing him meant losing the resources that Zach needed. Bulls front office is the reason why Zach wants out of Chicago
Pat Williams. 4th overall pick that hasn’t shown any flashes or development in his 3+ years in the league. Especially looking at who came after him in that draft (Halliburton, Maxey, Okoro and more), it’s the one that keeps me up at night.
David Ross, it was supposed to be special but we found out he’s not very good at being a manager. And this is why managers should never have a team connection because it took forever for people to realize he wasn’t good.
The answer is Jay Cutler. When you are paid like a star and don’t live up anywhere close to it. You were a disappointment. Zero playoff appearances let alone wins after he got his contract.
Gotta be Zach Lavine. The Former Dunk Champ can fly, Great Mid Range, Can Post Up, Very Good 3pt shooter and the guy has no heart, no dog in him, None of that killer mentality Jordan and Kobe had. It's sad to watch really. At this point Zach has quit on himself, not just the team.
If you trade Zach, are you getting good players or picks in return? Yes. Look at how Zach played when we had Lonzo ball, was he happy, getting highlight dunks, and finally having a team built around him? Yes. I very much dislike Zach and his pisspoor attitude, but no one saw him as a future Kobe or MJ lol relax
@@OP_-pk9hm and Lonzo still owed 20mil next year to be retired. He don't wanna play for us. Lavine avg 40 wasn't because Ball cause he did it the rest the year after Ball got hurt.
It’s has to be Jay Cutler. The Bears gave up multiple number one picks plus Kyle Orton. Denver definitely got the better end of the deal. Plus the Bears gave him a 7 year 126 million dollar deal. Also not one pro bowl appearance before and after he signed the deal. Also only one playoff win as well.
With a lot of disappointing stars to choose from, I am going with Addison Russell. IMO he is one of the biggest disappointments in Cubs history. From his rapid decline on the field to his personal issues off the field. Yes, he was part of the championship team but he never lived up to the player many of us thought the Cubs were getting when they traded away Shark.
He’s a great person, but the signing of Jason Heyward - the largest contract in Cubs history when it happened - couldn’t have been more exciting. We took him from the Cardinals, after he’d hit .293 & stole 20+ bases for the third time in four years. Thank goodness for his speech, which distracted from his .100 average in the 2016 postseason. That contract and roster spot hamstrung the Cubs.
Key word STAR: can't consider a home grown star a disappointment (Drose, Kris Bryant, Javier Baez) Hurts my heart to say this because he was my favorite player prior to joining the Cubs. JASON HAYWARD. i never thought lavine was that dude anyway so... 2nd is Khalil Mack. Only really had 1 good season, and gave up so much for him.
I say James Shields. The White Sox traded Tatis for this guy and was an absolute MESS. Ppl will say Cutler, but he STILL has more wins in Chicago than all the QBs after him combined
If we go by potential which never had the chance to develop due to his own bad choices my vote would go to Addison Russell. This kid had the talent to be an all star both offensively and defensively. Too bad we never got to see him reach his full potential 😢
To me it's Eddie Jackson. He was arguably the best safety in the league in 2018, and in that year he had so many clutch plays to help the Bears win. The reason it was so disappointing was that set me up to always expect him to make a play when we needed it, like maybe he was the new Mike Brown. Each game starting from 2019 has either been hoping he'll make one of those plays or he's not even in the game because of injury. I still love Eddie but after that 2018 season it's been so disappointing.
Derrick Rose By Far. Some people have KB and Justin Fields but KB won awards and the WS. Fields had a lot of hype but we didnt know exactly what we would get with him. Rose was a star in college and a Star in the NBA sure he had a few fantastic seasons. But injury after injury during the time the Bulls were amazing really hurt.
You a whole 🤡 for this! He gave us EVERYTHING he had. Played through so many injuries that he never discussed. There will be NO D.Rose slander allowed!!
From 2013 to now would have to be Lavine, he never proved he could be a winner. Cubs have some longevity options, but winning a world series is a great consolation prize for them not to work out
Mitch Trubisky was a “star”based on his pick position in the draft, and going to a “charter” franchise. He was never going to be an all time great but the Bears hired an incompetent coach and ultimately failed to develop him. If it sounds familiar it’s because history repeats itself at Halas Hall.
Last “star” in the past decade has to be Carlos boozer, he wasn’t horrible don’t get me wrong, just the free agent class there was and all we came away with was boozer? Who we ALREADY had Noah, it was so disappointing.
Coming from a huge Cubs fan, I would say Jason Heyward. I appreciate his speech during the rain delay in game 7, but the contract was way too high. The money, 184 million, didn’t equal his productivity.
I am sure the Cubs would of never signed him if they knew he would of given those puny numbers......As for the helmet you are wearing Kap might subtract points from your answer.
Justin Fields. For how much this city hypes up such a mediocre player, he sure has disappointed in both how much he loses, as well as how bad his stats always are. His best games are the worst games good QBs in the league have. His worst games are some of the worst in franchise history, yet people still hype him up like he's good. It's insane and honestly, I hate dealing with his fans. I can't wait until he's gone so people can stop being cultish about a bad player that doesn't win.
Yoan Moncada. He was the very first one back in 2017 or whatever year it was to have his heralded debut at Comiskey. Total excitement, buzz in the stands that night, as his debut singled the beginning of what was supposed to be a very exciting time on the South Side. Well we all know how that turned out. Good athlete, but constantly hurt, and just doesn’t seem to have any passion for baseball-maybe he’s too busy making music videos. One good year in 2019. Hopefully bye bye Moncada once and for all this offseason.
Kap, I can name too many. Lot of QBs, some baseball guys that just did not hold themselves to the standard that we brought them in for, but the worst has got to be Patrick Williams. I know the kids not a "star" but man did we expect and invest in him like he was the second coming of Kawhi Leonard. Seriously, who uses their sacred #4 pick on a guy who comes off the bench IN COLLEGE. I'm sure you remember, the Bulls kept getting the #7 pick year after year after year, so finally we got a top 4 pick and we used it on a guy that NO ONE KNEW. I remember being upset at draft night and having to google this kid. I have never seen a Franchise like the Bulls make such a risky move, stick by it for so long, and watch it pan out like Eddy Curry, Marcus Frazier, and Jay Williams. At least those busts had impressive college or HS experience, so it made sense to get them at #4. But Patrick Williams is the first time I've seen a bench player with little signs of achievement get selected that high up. What a disappointment that to this day is still holding us back. I can get started on Zach, but it does not even compare. At least with Zach, you can get value in return for him. With Patrick Williams, you might get a Portillo hotdog with french fries back...
As a huge Bulls fan I gotta say Zach Lavine. At first I thought we won the Jimmy Butler trade back in 2017 when the last rebuild started because he was looking really good but now ever since we gave him the max he just doesn't care anymore. He needs to get outta town
As a huge White Sox fan its gotta be either Yoan Moncada or Eloy Jimenez. So I'll just say both for this question. They were highly rated prospects and were seen as the cornerstones of the rebuild. Unfortunately, neither of them can stay healthy and from what I've heard from your friends McGuffey and Garfein, they are both clubhouse cancers who lack the work ethic and dedication it takes. Instead they've relied on their talent alone to coast by with massively disappointing results. So much potential wasted.
Ben Wallace huge contract. Barely was serviceable James Shields gave up a ton. Paid big money. Was arguably the worst starting pitcher in baseball while he was with the Sox
“STAR”? It’s gotta be Ben Wallace, for the amount we gave him to come to Chicago he didn’t do nearly as much as he should of. But I have to go with the bears and Mitch trubisky as the most disappointing. Ok yeah busts happen all the time but what we lost (Watson and mahomes) and who he became. Will never get over that fact.
