Its the common dilemma. People who were raised in hot areas would love to live in a colder area, people who were raised in cold areas would like to live in hot areas. Its being so used to having what you have and taking it for granted, without thinking of the penalty of living that different life. Reckful takes his wealth for granted and feels if he had much less money where actually making money was important for him he would feel more motivated in life. Of course the majority of twitch is young so they dont have money and instantly found what he was saying stupid because they are the hot that would want to live in the cold.
Although one thing I'm not sure Reckful realized is poor people can be depressed too, especially more frequently as the stress of lacking money eats at them.

I was raised in a cold area and prefer living in a cold area though, feelsbadman.

      @18skeltor 7 років тому +5

No, i disagree. Not everyone who lives in a hot area wants to live in a cold area. Ever think that the people who want to live in a hot area want to live in a hot area simply because they'd fucking prefer it? Maybe, just maybe, it has nothing to do with where they were raised. People only want something different when they're not satisfied with what they already have. It just so happens that most people aren't completely satisfied with their life. Regardless of socioeconomic status, etc.
What the fuck are you talking about with Twitch chat? Twitch chat is not a meaningful representation of anything. That's the point. You can't really talk about Twitch chat like it's a fucking entity. Twitch chat is a bunch of different people trying to get attention (other things too) and most of what is being said will not reflect what the person typing it actually thinks.

don't do that whole counter thing where when someone says "black people are good basketball players" you'll say "NO, not every black person is good at playing basketball"

you're counter was "not everyone" etc etc, which implies you thought I meant everyone. That's foolish, why would you truly believe that I meant there are no people who were raised in hot areas that could ever prefer hot areas.

Sorry I have to disagree. Being poor is never fun. Waking up not knowing if you will be able to get a decent meal or when you go to school and get made fun of for wearing shitty clothes is not fun. The problem with people with money is that they don't appreciate what they have, and I understand the thing about not having goals after having money. Why not make goals with your money? Help the people that are actually poor make that your goal. People would die to be in Reckful's shoes or to be brought up in a family like his. Make goals for yourself by helping others who are not as fortunate as he is. I understand he has depression and it sucks I have been through it, but using this example as saying being poor would be fun is not a good example. Even on my bad days I tell myself there are people out there going through way worse than you are. Count your blessings and appreciate what you have.

Idk, I feel this dude talking, but I also feel some regret as well(just human instinct)....I lost my mother to Ovarian Cancer, and I feel for this especially. I'm starting to understand depression as my wife is bi polar depressive. I'm completely alright, but it's hard trying to keep them level. I've had a real success with my personal experience with my mother in 2015 to now. Maturity has struck, and I think Byron needed to be reminded about life itself, and take a step back from his stream, his friends who dabble into the same thing, and on. Continue to work on himself, and his self happiness. Start doing exciting, motivating things, keep them focused on the "why" life is great, and not the "why" you think it's not. Remind the constantly that it's alright to feel that way, and it's alright to be them. It's a 24/7 365 job, but every life is worth it. RIP, Byron. I wish I was there for you, and knew you in this life. Again, I'm just a people person, so I feel some sort of responsibility to any and all neighbors. Life is amazing, people suck.

"He wants to get a job at McDonald's to experience it."
I admit that I laughed when I heard that, but having worked at McDonald's at done all types of shifts from morning to daytime to graveyard shifts, I can safely say that I wouldn't take any of the experiences back. It taught me that hard work is required to satisfy key goals and objectives and now that I understand that, I've learned to apply that across different spectrums of my life. I wouldn't recommend that anyone jump into McDonald's though, let alone fast food. Working at McDonald's is the best fast food work experience that you can ever get [they are the largest fast food chain at the end of the day], and it isn't that nice.

To not struggle financially is somewhat of a blessing but you certainly struggle in other ways if you're the one that's being gifted 'a good life', the people providing those finances generally need to work hard for those finances. When you're committed to working none-stop you don't really have time for those around you.
I never watched Reckful or know of his background but if he really was born with a silver spoon you can be absolutely sure that there are other aspects of his life where he needed more.
Would you rather have tonnes of money and no family or support, or a family that loves and spends time with you and not very much money? If you say the former over the latter, that's very sad.

Money changes as, confusion or a vague reality of what you are, who you are, and how people view you sets in. You start worrying or expressing yourself in ways you didn't before. I just wish he was told that he was very successful, motivational to most, and a role model to all. Money wasn't the solution. Goals aren't the solution, and changing anything of what he had going wasn't going to fix it. He needed to be told he had himself, and his character was already max level because of his mindset, his community he built, and even his failures. Those experiences, most people dream about. I saw in a video where he mentioned his brother passing, and he literally lost track of thought...like his mind went into a daze and you could see the feelings and how hard that hurt him inside...even then, I wish I was around more to have helped him rather than how this played out. Life is too important for us to be too busy for one another. We need a systematic changes so we can have more help towards one another. I know people are busy, and when you stream, your house ridden and so introverted it's hard to show you are their for someone..words mean something, but action means most.

I havn't watched Destiny enough to know him. But I'm glad he shines some light on the nuances of the human psyche.
Reckful can definitely be an asshole. But in some cases i dont think he knows better.
Also, having monetary wealth sure makes life easier but there is always gonna be that hole inside you that feels empty.
Maybe he feels like he missed out on some opportunity to learn what a dollar actually means, but the way he said sounded pretty arrogant.

It's not the poor bit he finds fun, it would be the struggle and sense of achievement. How many people play Dark Souls for this exact reason?
It's very hard to make goals with your money. If he donated 50% of his wage to homelessness or africa or some shit, do you think it would even make a difference? You need billions to sort that stuff out, not just a few hundred thousand. He's in the middle ground in that sense. Not poor enough to do nothing, but not rich enough to make an impact.
I wouldn't die to be in Reckful's shoes. I can't think of much worse.

No living person has been there, you don't know that.
But yes, I think reckful thinks that struggling in life gives it more meaning than mindlessly doing whatever the hell you want without discipline, such as proper stream schedule or stream goal (what he's doing right now, to our knowledge).

    • @Jaymiecain1

Rich kids are massively more likely to do drugs or get in a car crash or an extreme situation. You think that's because they're happy with life, or because they're bored shitless and want some entertainment?
